I'm not saying that my MGM is not good. I'm just saying that I'm having trouble programming it. I'm also afraid the use the internal bec, because some have had problems with the bec blowing a frying receivers and servos. Since I have an external bec, I have to need to even risk using the internal bec.

AAngel, from what i've gathered through research, the higher total system voltage, the harder the hit on the internal BEC. I think thats where mine went wrong. I was right at the threshold voltage of abusing the BEC. Luckily my ESC is ok and my expensive radio equipment is ok. Unfortunatly my $100 servo is toast along with a stock traxxas servo. I'm also a little annoyed that along with buying the replacement servo's, i'm going to have to sink another $40 into a UBEC.

$280 - Neu 1515 1y
$235 - MGM 16016
$185 - 2 x 6000mah 2s2p lipo
Burning up on board electronics because of cheap internal BEC components - Priceless (or in this case, $100 for UBEC and new servo's)

Well,

Get this, the 5S2P 8Ah pack that I ordered from truerc on Saturday, showed up this morning. That guys doesn't mess around. Anyway, running on 5S, I have to use the external bec.

I'm still messing with it. That clacking sound that I was hearing was my front diff. The case cracked. I replaced the case and it cracked again. I'm hoping that there was a high spot on one of my gears causing the cracking. If not, then either the compro system is too powerful or too abrupt, since I never had this problem running my MM on 4S with the same motor.

When the bec fried in my Mtroniks... all I got was a roman candle under the body, lol.... a little flame and a lot of smoke. At least it didn't take anything else with it...

GD, it sounds like you lucked out. With my luck, the esc would have flamed the lipo and then there would have been some real fireworks.

That's true - you DO seem to have poor luck! You need to go outside and find a couple 4 leaf clovers or something! :)

Well, I think I'm in for a change of luck. I'm due one anyway. What do you guys think of my charging my 5S lipo pack to 95% capacity (my charger will do that) and putting it on one of my Mamba Max controllers with the 8XL?

Does anyone know what the actual maximum voltage is for the MM?

BTW, Mike emailed me today. He seems to be a helluva guy. I'm going to give him a call. Although I'd feel like an idiot, I'm hoping that I'm doing something wrong with the Compro.

gixxer 04.10.2007 11:19 PM

I dont know of an actual voltage limit, I do know that my MM does not like the 5s when it comes off the charger. I usually just end up holding the car in the air and giving it full throttle for like 30 seconds to bring down the voltage. after that everything seems to work fine.

AAngel 04.10.2007 11:36 PM

gixxer,

What do you mean that it doesn't like it? How does it behave?

I also spent some time on the phone with Mike today. He walked me through the programming procedure and still no dice. I'm pretty sure that it's the controller and not me. It looks like I'm going to be waiting for my Compro to make an overseas trip, unless Mike proposes something else.

That sounds a lot like I've heard the Quark operates at 6s...

gixxer 04.11.2007 12:30 AM

the esc just cuts out and I have to turn it off and back on again. once the voltage drops a little the esc acts normal. I know someone else said they were using 5s and theres didn't do this. So I think its just right at the edge of what the esc can handle. I was actually going to go back to 4s because of this but have desided to just deal with it until the new esc's come out(mmm or the tekin).

I would try the battery on the MM since you already own one. if yours acts like mine then just set your charger to cut off early.

AAngel 04.11.2007 01:57 AM

Well, the 5S on the MM with the 8XL and 9/46 gearing with the stock 40 series tires works. I've only been able to run it around my sun room, but it cogs very rarely and then not badly at all. I wish I had know, I wouldn't have gotten the Compro. I could have held out for the MMM.

I guess, where the MM on 4S with the 7XL was giving me trouble, the 5S with the 8XL has a lower amp draw and it working.

I'm just waiting to see what Mike proposes that I do with this Compro. If I have to wait for it to get back from the Czech Rep, I might just sell it cheap when I get it back.

gixxer 04.11.2007 02:23 AM

good to see that you finally found something that works for you.

So i figured i'd post in this thread since it was already going.....

I installed my new servo's last night and strapped everything down. came home from work today and put it to the test.

it doesn't seem to like full throttle. i can gradually increase the speed all the way up to about 80% throttle, but when i go that last little bit, it starts to randomly pulse the throttle and sometimes just goes neutral and won't accelorate until you return the throttle stick to neutral and try again.

I've reprogrammed it a couple of times and it doesn't seem to help. I have the timing advance set to automatic.

when it does go, its got a superb amount of power, it just won't let you stay on the throttle.

Anybody have any suggestions?

BrianG 04.13.2007 06:09 PM

When you say "reprogrammed" do you mean you recalibrated the controller to your transmitter? I was thinking that the ESC was taught that 100% throttle was actually 80% trigger throw and now when you go to 100% on the trigger, the ESC doesn't know how to handle 120%...
