thanks, I'll keep that one in mind.

anyone have any opinions on these?:

I chose the Thunder Power charger because it can charge up to 10S at 10A! It also charges up to 30 ni-mh/ni-cd cells and 10 A123 cells, and up to 24v pb batteries!

I also got the TP-210V li-po balancer, the charger and the balancer communicate during charging.

and I got the Dynamite 12v/10A power supply

Horizon sent me another xcelorin system, and this one is broken too. It seems that the ESC is working correctly, but whenever the motor gets up to speed it squeels and stops and the esc gets real toasty.

this is the 4th bad xcelorin system I've had so far, I'm getting pissed

What are you running it in when it squeals and stops?

roweder 08.30.2008 08:03 PM

the speed-t, and it'll do it with no load

That is likely the problem, you should never get a brushless motor up to speed with no load. If you need to bench test a set up, give it a small amount of throttle for a brief period and stop.

roweder 08.30.2008 08:11 PM

i ran it at maybe 1,000rpm, that was it, it would squeel & lock up at that speed

Mozzy 08.31.2008 12:48 AM

Hmmmmmm, & this is a Losi product.

I'm beginning to wonder how their 1/8 systems will be.

I'm using both stock Muggy shocks & LST 2 shocks with RC Raven dual rate springs on the back & yellow Losi's on the front of my LST. Never blown a shock & handles fantastic. I never wind the screw on the shocks down, I keep it wound just enough to stop the spring falling out of the retainers at full extension.

Just to quash the confusion, it's a full set of each with the same springs on both. I use the Muggy shocks for smoother tracks with lower jumps.

Awesome avatar Gooberseptember, where'd you get it? Just wondering if there are other pics on the site.

bdebde 08.31.2008 12:58 AM

sounds like their motors aren't too great then

roweder 08.31.2008 09:34 AM

out of 4 xcelorin systems, 3 esc's were bad, and 2 motors were bad. I think the ESC's may be worse than the motors, and i finally found a working esc, hopefully they will let me send only the motor back, they should've let me send only the esc back last time.

I want to see Gooberseptember's avatar in full size lol

BL_RV0 08.31.2008 11:43 AM

I don't see why they wouldn't. It wouldn't surprise me AT ALL if the xcelorin ESC's were worse than the motors, judging by people's luck with the velineon systems.
On a side note, why do these imitation brushless systems all have these stupid names? :rules:

roweder 08.31.2008 11:53 AM

are the velineon systems crappy too?

BL_RV0 08.31.2008 01:44 PM

There's a rumor that the motors are made by Feigao. Only difference is that the tires come out the side, and the endbell has a large "V" on it.
The ESC's are complete junk. I'm not sure if anyone else thinks this, but I think they're EZ-Run ESC's.

roweder 09.01.2008 12:10 PM

what about the assosiated LRP's? their nitro LRP's are good, are their brushless ones crappy like xcelorin and velineon?

brushlessboy16 09.01.2008 12:16 PM

neither can push the voltage needed

cembom 09.01.2008 02:01 PM

What about a mamba or sidewinder, you have an esc right or do you have to return the whole thing?

roweder 09.01.2008 07:16 PM

I'm hoping that i can just return the motor, cuz if i return the whole thing then i know i won't get another working esc

roweder 09.02.2008 11:11 AM

i called today, and i put the phone up to the motor and made it go, and i think that it was because i did that that he didn't make me send it back.

so now that i have this dead combo, i didn't just chuck it or something...

i tried to replace the gimpy 14 gauge wire with 12 gauge, but 12 gauge didn't fit in the wholes, but i thought this was too cool to not take it apart... here's the ESC:

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/c...r/DSCN5181.jpg
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/c...r/DSCN5185.jpg

and here's the rotor, it looks kind of cheesy compared to similar novak and castle rotors, instead of the magnet spanning the entire shaft, they put in spacers, and it wasn't cracked, i'm guessing that the can was falling in on the rotor pulled by magnetic force:

roweder 09.02.2008 11:37 AM

and I don't have school because the teachers are on strike, I'm lucky I'm not a senior.

suicideneil 09.02.2008 02:12 PM

Are there any scratch marks on the magnet, or any obvious wear marks on the inside of the motor (windings); the magnetic force of that little magnet wouldnt cause the can to get sucked inwards and rub on it, lol. Sounds like the bearings are in need of some attention, or a little shimming is needed to align the rotor inside the can, front to rear.

Arct1k 09.02.2008 02:19 PM

This was confirmed by me a long time back - The traxxas brushless motor is made by Feigao - The controller is not...

it does have scratches on it, but only in one spot, as if it's not perfectly round, or that spot is the strongest part of the magnet, and it's the same color as the inside of the can, and the can is lopsided, but horizon is sending me another combo for free (i think it's a combo, it may just be a motor, I'll find out thursday)

cembom 09.02.2008 05:23 PM

Thats sweet. Good to hear it.

roweder 09.02.2008 06:15 PM

now i got a question, i replaced the short wires on the capacitor with longer ones, and i have a question, do the gold arrows with minus signs in them point twords the minus sign? I'll post a pic in a second

roweder 09.02.2008 06:23 PM

It's not exactly just a capacitor... the lead on the side of the capacitor that has the gold arrows and minus signs on it goes to the side of the circuit board that I soldered the black wire onto.

Tell me how I did:

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/c...r/DSCN5193.jpg

suicideneil 09.03.2008 09:27 AM

That looks correct. On caps the - lead is normally marked, and the + isnt.

roweder 09.03.2008 09:54 AM

cool, if it was wrong, what would happen?

it usually makes a spark when I hook it up to the battery, and I hooked it up last night without thinking (i was planning on not hooking it up until someone said it was right) and it made the small spark, and nothing got hot as usual.

roweder 09.03.2008 03:35 PM

I got the TP1010C charger today, and the TP210V balancer, and the Dynamite 12V/10A power supply.

This charger is wicked! I love it! It's big too lol.

I wish that the power supply fan was auto though, it's always running and it kind of bothers me.

roweder 09.03.2008 04:52 PM

I got a little adventurous again, here's the losi li-po charger, it comes apart easy and there's pretty much no way to break the charger taking it apart:

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/c...r/DSCN5203.jpg
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/c...r/DSCN5204.jpg

suicideneil 09.04.2008 10:42 AM

If you connect up the cap backwards, I'd guess it would either do nothing, or go pop.

As for the fan issue- I'd assume you could connect an on/off switch along its negative power lead, and fix the switch into the casing, or put it on a short extension and have it dangle out of the case, so as not to void any warrenty (remove it before sending it in).

roweder 09.04.2008 10:47 AM

i think the switch is a good idea, of course that is counting on the power supply not breaking, it came with a loose bolt inside that I had to take out, I would probably turn the fan on during charging and off during discharge and while it's not charging anything

Gooberseptember 09.04.2008 10:52 AM

are you talking the fan on the charger or the PS? The Charger you can have on always or when needed. You do this by holding down the SEL-MOD button and changing the setting.

If its the PS your talking about, then i have no clue. LOL

roweder 09.04.2008 10:54 AM

the power supply, it's fan is always on

I love the chargers fan, on auto it only turns on when discharging at 1 amp or more, and idk about charging cuz my balance connectors don't fit, I'm waiting on this: http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/9755

Gooberseptember 09.04.2008 10:55 AM

check your pm!!

roweder 09.04.2008 11:01 AM

i did, you should have something

suicideneil 09.04.2008 11:12 AM

When the power supply isnt in use, cant you just turn it off at the wall socket?
