I was worried for a little while, wondering when the 'Black Friday' offers will finish- but:

Huzzar! That means I can get my 1518 1st of next month without having to blow my budget for this month (no money left to spend, damn self-imposed rules...).

Keep one back for me will ya Patrick, dont sell 'em all straight away...

OK -- I'll have Christy pull one and hold it for you.

I'll be in China that week (I leave this Friday, get back on the 5th --) But I'll ask Christy to hold one for you.

Thank You Castle !!!

suicideneil 11.26.2009 06:44 PM

Aw, cheers Patrick, I appreciate it alot, as will my uber TXT-1 :yipi:

Just tell her not to be frightend by someone called SuicideNeil placing orders... :eyes:

E-Revonut 11.26.2009 10:32 PM

Wish I hadn'y just spent a bunch of money but I'm glad these are out now! I will be using one of these next summer for racing, the 1518

snellemin 11.26.2009 10:52 PM

I too will have to wait getting one of these bigger motors.

lincpimp 11.26.2009 11:11 PM

Yeah, I want to try one out in my lst, or maybe in the lst 6x6 (HEHEHEHE) if the transfer diff can handle the juice! If not I have a welded steel design for that diff...

lincpimp 11.27.2009 12:32 AM

Well, just ordered a 1717, so we will see if it will fit the 6x6...

Hopefully this coupled with a MMM and the Zippy 5k 40c 6s pack I just acquired I will have something...

We shall see.

What's_nitro? 11.27.2009 12:36 AM

Dam... I'd buy the 1520 with the sale going on except I just bought a Medusa 36-80 last week!

That sucks... I would much rather have the CC motor than the medusa... Sell it, and get something good!

What's_nitro? 11.27.2009 01:06 AM

Well, I like the Medusa. 'Just saying I would've waited and bought the 1520 had I known the sale was going to happen.

Semi Pro 11.27.2009 02:16 AM

i ordered my new motor............ cant pass up the price

asimo 11.27.2009 04:38 AM

I might have to order a 1518 for myself by the end of this week it very tempting. :mdr:I just bought a motor a couple of week a ago from Mr.Pimp (that I've still haven't ran.)

Unsullied_Spy 11.27.2009 02:03 PM

Any ideas on when these new motors will start shipping? I'm going nuts waiting for my 1717!

Duster_360 11.27.2009 04:44 PM

Did anybody find out anything about mounting one of these? Size screws and hole spacing?? Will they mount in same place as the 2200?

Pretty sure it was said in this thread or another that it has standard spacing, 3mm (standard) screw holes, and a 5mm shaft.

so can we tap them to 4mm without voiding out warrentys ( and by we i meant people who know how to remove the end bell and use a tap and die?)

It was asked in this thread twice, but never answered. In the Black Fri thread SuicideNeil says its std 25mm spacing with 3mm screws from Castle's site, but I don't see it.

Castle uses a good bit of common sense when dealing with warranty claims, if you tap the holes out and it fails as a result of something not related to the tapping it shouldn't be a problem. If you run the tap in, push through the ring protecting the coils, and into the coils you need to buy a new motor but as long as you don't cause the problem I don't think you'll have a problem with a warranty claim.

I'm on dial up right now so I am not taking the time to check the site again, but it doesn't make sense for them to release a motor aimed at our market with a odd sizing and spacing. It would be wise of them to make these motors bolt up like any other, I bought one without a doubt in my mind that it would bolt up to my RC-M conversion.

rabosi 11.28.2009 06:48 PM

I seem to recall someone saying (not sure if it was Patrick) that the 3mm mounting should not be a problem with friction between motor and mount accounting for stress relief. Of course, as crappy as my memory is I may have just dreamed that.

Urgeoner 11.28.2009 11:29 PM

I have a muggy with an rcm motor mount will the 1717 bolt up to it?

himalaya 11.29.2009 05:42 AM

3mm screws MIGHT be suficient, but 4mm options can't be worse.

himalaya 11.29.2009 05:55 AM

a simple Q for Patric, does the 1717 share same rotor dia. with the 15 series(19mm rotor), like the Neu 14 and 15 series?

Electric Eel 11.29.2009 10:26 AM

I've had the heli version for a week now. The screws are standard 25mm spacing 4mm diameter. The rotor is longer and fatter than the 15 series. The heli version has a 6mm shaft and cooling holes. It runs unbelievably well.

Urgeoner 11.29.2009 01:02 PM

nice. I hope the 1717 clears the center driveline on my Muggy as I've ordered this motor last wednesday!

Thanks for that info, thats what I was looking for!

If the motor is on the right side (RCM mount), then it will hit the chassis brace first. A 9 tooth is about as small as I can go with a finned neu @ 44mm, at 55.6mm you will likely have to run a big pinion, about 20 teeth.

Urgeoner 11.29.2009 06:41 PM

Thanks Bdebde...chassis brace that what I meant:oops:
Will having a 20t pinion overheat the motor? you think I should have got the 1520 instead?

sikeston34m 11.29.2009 07:19 PM

Can the 1717 be made to work in a E Revo?

If the Medusa 80mm will work in one, then the 1717 is 5mm longer than that.

But it's almost 20mm larger in diameter, which could be the real problem.

Semi Pro 11.29.2009 08:03 PM

it should work

i plan on test fitting it in everything i own and i will let you guys know what fits

here is what i can test

xxl with the dude mount
e-revo
tekno revo ( i know for sure it will not fit)
losi 8ight
hotbodies lightning with RCM mount
e-maxx
ofna truggy with RCM mount
mini e-revo!:yipi::lol: looks like it may fit without the body:gasp:
fastlane savage

and afew 1/10 scale toys too

Whenever I geared my Muggy up for speed, the motor (1515) never got much hotter, but the ESC and batteries sure did. Are you using the RCM motor mount? I am not sure if the 1717 motor will even clear the chassis with that mount. Measure to the center of the motor hole from the chassis, if it is less than 28mm, motor won't fit. It could be made to work, if you put spacers under the diff mount and put spacers under the diff top plate to fit a larger spur (I think RRP makes a 50t that would work). I considered the 1717 but I figured I would have to make a new motor mount, so I just got the 1520. With a 50t spur you won't need as big of a pinion, you could gear for a more "reasonable" speed as long as your batteries are up to it.

Urgeoner 11.29.2009 11:10 PM

Ya the RCM motor mount...it is less than 28mm I'm sure. :whip: shux!

lincpimp 11.29.2009 11:25 PM

Go with the 1520 for the muggy. The 1521 1y that I run on 6s in the muggy does very well.

Urgeoner 11.29.2009 11:32 PM

OK I just contacted Castle and told them that I would rather have the 1520. Problem is I ordered the 1717 last Wednesday, so it's def in the mail on its way here...
Linc werent u saying that you were gonna get a 1717 for your muggy? were you gonna make a custom mount or what?

Nah, leaving the 1521 1y neu in the muggy, and plan to put the 1717 in my lst with the tdr mount. Not sure if it will clear the front tranny "foot" but I can always mod the tranny. I may put my other 1521 in the lst and save the 1717 for the 6x6 lst I built. That way the 1527 2y can go in my 5th scale savage with the lt10s esc and 10s 3200 30c lipo. I was going to run a 1521 2y in the 6x6 with 10s, but I only have 1 hv car esc. Now if the big hv ice comes out, well I may have to rethink everything again.

I do have a stretched chassis lst based buggy (using a 1/7th scale buggy body) in the works, that might need the 1717!

Urgeoner 11.29.2009 11:41 PM

wow...sound like ur hands are TIED lol...
Anyway, if (and I mean IF) I decide to go with the 1717, I'll probably need to make a new mount.
