The truck can handle the power very nice, however my diff output cups are starting to notch out where the dogbones hit. I'm thinking about picking up some of Mike's Hardened diff cups (I think I saw some?).

I love this motor. It makes me smile. I couldn't imagine this motor in a Savage though, what a waste

Wow.... 117°... could you post your setup and some photos of your machine?

Yeah, I was baffled. I had a 2200 in there previously and knew that the lower KV geared would be more efficient/cooler, however I was afraid because I geared for a higher mph with the 1520... that the motor temps would be up in the high 150's (I understand that 175 is pretty much max?).

I will post setup/pics tomorrow. I'm just in the middle of cleaning the truck up from a good day yesterday :)

Jahay 06.08.2010 04:15 AM

castle told me that the motor was good as long as you kept it below 200!!! but i will stick to max 180!

@scarlett.... i have used the HD gears 2 times now and both sets have stripped on me in around 12 runs or so! Its cheaper to use stock ones and change them every 6-10 runs and they have better contact surface area. Just works out better for me till i do the CD conversion.

@rolr... get some pics up of this xxl lst... Im sure my savage would love to run all over it :na: your geared for 45 im geared for 53mph  lol jk.

But seriously what is your lst weighing in at? just want to compare how these trucks weigh compared to their gearing etc... and what temps they are producing.

The motor is in the purp MBX5T truggy ;) You can see some air at the end, and how easy the motor works to push it in 3-4meters altough the high punch control at 70% !

ANGRY-ALIEN 06.25.2010 10:46 AM

Look... It's a Bird...It's a Plane... it's SuperMBX5T:lol:... damn that thing can fly... nice vid man... keep them coming...

Nice vid man.

Sorry for the late response. Here are some pictures of my bashing beast.

-LST2
-XXL Chassis conversion
-MMM/1520 motor
-Flextek Titanium arms
-Aluminum hubs
-Tini Pinion/Spur/diff gears/tranny gear
-Forward only conversion, E-LST gear swap
-I made a make-shift battery tray out of an old parts container while my new one was being shipped, however I continue to use it as it does the trick quite well.

I absolutely love the weight setup of the truck... As much weight forward as possible, and it still jumps level!

Don't mind the crappy pictures or state of the truck, just waiting on some parts to beef up the corners a bit more.

117°C is 242°F. Castle motors must be kept below 200°F or 93°C.

My motor stays cool in my Savage on 6S with 20/44. Still flips too easy though. Need to swap all the stuff to the Muggy now, the center diff should be great for handling.

He was stating that it was 117°F, not C. Read the post carefully.

V0RT3X 06.28.2010 10:23 AM

Yeah, figured it later since the other guys would think it's still really cold in Canada. (or is it?)

nuz69 06.30.2010 04:11 PM

Check the mugen spur and the rear shaft ;) Shimming was always correct :lol:

ANGRY-ALIEN 06.30.2010 04:27 PM

Interesting... what make pinion are you using? I don't normally see that kind of deterioration on spurs...

Alien

nuz69 06.30.2010 04:30 PM

Many ^^
RCmonster pinions : eated after 5-10 bateries :(
Robinson racing : eated...
losi : eated..
ect..
ect..
novak : seems to be no digestive for the moment :lol:

Thomas Porfert 06.30.2010 04:34 PM

I feel silly for asking, but that's not the gear mesh you normally run, right?

nuz69 06.30.2010 04:45 PM

As the spur use itself with time, I thought that I had to move the pinion closer to the spur, but with this method I used my pinions pretty quickly... So now I decide to stick with the original shimming when the spur was new, and it seems to work, my pinions and spur dont use themselves anymore. At least for the moment...
I run with the mesh you see in the photo

ANGRY-ALIEN 06.30.2010 04:52 PM

hmmm.... just curious... how did you determine the distance between the spur and pinion?

nuz69 06.30.2010 04:58 PM

I have some plastic piece between motor and chassis reinforcement, which keep the motor to move latteraly, and it give me information on the shimming too.
And I can feel it with the play between pinion and spur when I move the spur up and down.

ANGRY-ALIEN 06.30.2010 05:14 PM

zeen... I get a little confused myself when meshing metal gears... with plastic spurs and metal pinions i used the 'Paper Method'... running a sheet of paper
between the gears to achieve a relatively good mesh... But I'm sure if that method can be used with metal gears...

nuz69 06.30.2010 05:17 PM

Some people do that with metal ;)
But I prefer the hearing method, I hear carefully the noise that my mesh is doing to adjust precisely the shimming. I use my eyes too, with habit you can see a proper or bad mesh, and the noise confirm it !

Kcaz25 06.30.2010 11:20 PM

I make sure I can feel alittle bit of play, rocking the spur back and forth I can hear, feel, and see the perfect mesh. Its just a small amount of click/clack. The paper method got me prepaired for this.

ANGRY-ALIEN 06.30.2010 11:37 PM

Cool... I use the by ear method also ... I am really interested in those Novak pinions though... maybe I'll give them a try soon.

Jahay 07.01.2010 06:05 AM

i have never seen wear like that! Your pinion is handling it very well!!!! Thats usually how my pinion looks as my spur is still fresh! Got to try novak next!

nuz69 07.01.2010 06:10 AM

Lool no no no, the pinion is brand new, the spur has already seens a lot of 80 batteries of 6S 4000mAh and a lot of nitro liters :D, I bought the truggy used !

Jahay 07.01.2010 06:20 AM

woah thats one long lasting spur!

So are you saying that the Novaks may not be stronger than previous brands?

nuz69 07.01.2010 10:20 AM

No because when I said it's new, I said it have a few batteries, some other brands pinions were very used only after one or two batteries, that's why novak seems to be the strongest pinions for the moment.
Anyway I will post new pictures of the mesh in a few days, as I drive my truggy one or two hours a day, it will be revelative ;)

ANGRY-ALIEN 07.01.2010 10:27 AM

I see... well post your findings when you have them... I am tired of killing pinions now... i need to find a set that will hold up to the punishment the CC 1520 dishes out...

nuz69 07.01.2010 10:38 AM

Your spur is holding for now ?

ANGRY-ALIEN 07.01.2010 12:17 PM

Well the spur is fairly new... not many runs on it... no signs of wear yet. I have an older RCM 18 tooth pinion mounted now and it seems to be doing much better than the newer ones..

Jahay 07.01.2010 12:21 PM

ive decided to try an HPI Pinion again. It seemed to hold up before on my other motor and it was rarely changed... Lets see if it can handle the 1520!

V0RT3X 07.01.2010 01:12 PM

Mine unscrewed once and got shreaded like butter lol. (2200 4S)

Kcaz25 07.02.2010 07:54 AM

Yeah my RCM pinions(all older) did great. All my Novak ones have been great as well.

Hey Zack... how many packs have you gone though with the Novak pinions?

Hundreds of charges. They all get lost or fly off and get crunched before they have a chance to get too worn down. Other than that my ratio may change so much that they are no longer practical. But, I have never stopped using one because it worn out. I haven't had any new or new lightned RCM pinions but all my old and/or unlightned RCM pinions did the same way: which was exactly what they are supposed to do> wear slowly. I wish I had a 1520 but my 1515 is doing just fine.

Jahay 07.04.2010 06:43 PM

Ok my result of an HPI Pinion

I met up with a few people to bash the trucks.
I put on a brand new 17t HPI pinion.
I ran two sets of lipos through it yesterday... I ran one set on grass and one set on dirt doing jumps.
Today i ran twice. So two sets of lipos.
But before i was halfway through my secondset today, i could hear a wierd noise as if the gears were not meshed correctly...

This was the case but because of extreme wear to the pinion.

It shredded after 4 sets of lipos!!!!!!!!!!!
This is terrible!!!!!

I think i am going to have to start using a plastic spur! I can not continue to change pinions every 5 runs. It is so much effort ripping the truck apart ever 3 days!!!! I just do not have the time!
The truck runs absolutely amazing, tearing the grass up wherever... But its taking its toll on the gears.

WHAT SHOULD I DO? Novak pinion and a plastic spur?

nuz69 07.04.2010 06:49 PM

You definitly should try the punch control. Try it just for a few pack at 60-70%, maybe it will be OK for you, and it definitly would increase your pinions life ;)
Before changing the spur, try NOVAK pinion, with plastic spur you will break the spur every set of lipo :(

Jahay 07.04.2010 07:24 PM

Ok... i will try that guy from HK Selling packs of 3 pinions...

BUT I WILL NOT LOWER MY PUNCH!!! i love having the immediate power! I still think a plastic delrin spur is what i need though!

Kcaz25 07.05.2010 12:30 AM

I think you have to look at the people who are not having these problems. What are they doing that you are not?

nuz69 07.05.2010 03:28 AM

Most of the people have not a 17lbs truck geared for 50mph :lol::lol:
