What I like with the plastic shock towers is the amazing flex. I am not to found of using aluminium at stress areas at all. I have considered to make my own shock tower in Kevlar, or perhaps even better glass fiber (as it flexes a bit more & would be very cheap to make in larger numbers as I plan to break a few..).
Here is a video of the first bench test I did this wednesday evening. And the direct link if the video does not work http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TZIFV_kQTU |
Here's the complete truck with body - RTR
http://rsb.se/gallery/files/1/5/3/img_0074_comp.jpg There's a lot of air between the body and the chassies, but the shock towers prevent it from being lowered any further. |
Wow, can't wait to see the first run of this monster!--Josh

I can't get the youtupe wrap to work - here's the direct linkt to the 3 videos I uploaded Thursday evening. Unfortunately not edited at all and almost stormy conditions - I'll make something more professional when I have some more material to work with.

That thing is WWIICCKKEEDD!!:diablo:

Nice Work!
Dude, just read through whole thread. Great job! i have done several custom builds with some fab here on the forum but never have i attempted to lay my own carbon/kevlar from scratch all the way! Turned out solid, man! That thing has got some nuts, too!

Wow i just found your build. Awesome work!!! You are talented. What is the top speed in m.p.h???
|
That thing goes 0-to piss yourself in 1.5 seconds:lol:.
|
Awesome truck, you got me very interested in learning how to lay my own CF and kevlar.
Looks like your going to need some one million weight oil for the center differential! |

When you get those towers made maybe you can get a body that fits the quality of the rest of the truck. |
Does need a slightly longer shell, maybe one made from kevlar
Insane amounts of power, those poor tyres wont last too long- got to love overkill :yipi: |
Nice pizza cutters there!!!
|
Thanks for the nice words and the help with youtube!
I thought I should post some images of the battle scars from the 5-10 minutes ride I did so far. Blistered arms, wont last long, but will at least help me get rid of the colour of the springs:lol: http://rsb.se/gallery/files/1/5/3/img_0103.jpg Some bent screws from the only jump I did.. Needs some serious re-engineering here.. I could see that coming - but wanted a test ride so bad.. http://rsb.se/gallery/files/1/5/3/img_0092_comp.jpg http://rsb.se/gallery/files/1/5/3/img_0090_comp.jpg I'd have to get some new wheels though, so I can have them taped. Any suggestions? |
Wow, just wow!

At the moment I am heavily considering to invest in a Schulze ESC as it has brakes. I think it would be almost impossible to fit any mechanical brakes into the truck as well, and it would also result in more weight
I hope a 40.160 would be enough, on the specs it compares to the JetiSpin200 I'm using and I have seen speed boats running LMT 3080 motors on the 40.160 so it should be able to work - it however requires water cooling. Any opinions and experiences to share with me on this would be appreciated. |

mckrill; what brand & model tires are those?
|
Damn, thats got more damage after one run than my Gmaxx has after about 3-4 years...
|
Hello,
The tires are Panther Meat Grinder T100 http://www.pantherteam.com/index.php...roducts_id=180 Yes, the truck took some serious beating, gotta get those hoses really soon. Lutach - thanks for the information. I followed the build of your ESC for quite some time, it's available? |

Whaow, can't wait to get my hands on one of those..
I feel that 14s becomes a little messy, partly due to the limited numbers of 7s packages and chargers available. 12s would be ideal and still keep the current draw low enough to use more simple connectors, thinner cables etc. BEC availability is a problem by it self, but I consider to get one of the western robotics Hercules BEC's, it is supposed to be good for 14s. Anyone having experience with them? |
Does anyone know were to get 10mm bore Mod1 pinions?

Good stuff man, pretty sure kevlar hasn't been done before!

To solve your shock mount issue - just fab up a plate that goes across the backside of both shocks. I bent my FLM towers when I converted to the LST shocks, and putting that plate on solved it.
eh...now that I read the rest of the thread, I see that Neil bet me to it.... If you do upgrade to aluminum towers, you might also consider doing the bulkheads. They become the weak point (been there, done that). |
Never ending
Thats the thing with these types of builds. Once you start the upgrading process it never ends. If you improve one weak spot because it revealed itself during opporation it moves the weak point to another part. This is why my projects have taken so long to build. I have been trying to avoid wasting time putting what I know are already weak parts into my projects by purchasing better components, and that all takes time and money that take time to come up with. Nothing ever really reaches "Bulletproof" capaciaty, because we keep coming up with ways to break them.

Good answering Jerry!
I have decided to keep the plastic shock towers, but add the brace - I already have a 4mm CF-plate for this.. When running the truck last time I noticed that the motor did run hot, so have decided to change to a motor with one more winding, and also add the air-cooling / fan option. I have also been investigating the ESC situation again and decided that the best option woul be to go for the Schulze 40.160wk ESC, it would also solve the brake issue.. The Jetispin200 will be up for sale (or Ill use it for another project I have on the planning stage) |
I made a try to fit a larger diameter motor in, but as of now the maximum diameter before actually having contact with the drive shaft is apx 45-46mm. Using a larger Pinion and lower kV would improve the situation, but no very much.

What turn buckle/tie rod is that? Looks really tough. |
The rod is from the FLM kit, but the plastic parts I am not sure anymore, perhaps it is the original from the SavageX SS kit?
|
Last week I ordered a new motor with air cooling that should run a little cooler. I was considering to use a larger diameter motor and reviewed the measurements again, but 44-46mm is the maximum, so it had to be a new Lehner, this time with air cooling and slightly less kV of 822 compared to the previous 925. This is how it will look:

I am negotiating the terms for a Schulze 40.160wk ESC as well, but those Germans really want to be payed by bank transfer..
I also mounted the Swaybars this weekend, it only required minimal modifications. http://rsb.se/gallery/files/1/5/3/kr_ng2.jpg http://rsb.se/gallery/files/1/5/3/kr_ng1.jpg |
I love those Lenhers with the built in fan, such a cool design ( pun not intended ).
|
Yeah, I like the design too.
For the motor I also ordered the water jacket. I just ordered the Schulze 40.160, also with channels for water cooling.... so what is missing? Hence I ordered some micro pumps and micro radiators to experiment with: http://rsb.se/gallery/files/1/5/3/m200_p_large_gold.jpg These pumps weight 12 grams only! I ordered two versions with different flow and pressure capability. (1.6W) I also ordered two sizes of radiators, Large = 75x50x9mm. http://rsb.se/gallery/files/1/5/3/tc...radiaitor_.jpg Small = 45x25x9mm http://rsb.se/gallery/files/1/5/3/tc...adiator_1_.jpg Should be fun:lol::lol: |
:surprised:.... wow... I can't wait to see this assembled.
|
Where did u get those pumps and radiators?
|
http://www.micropumps.co.uk/
I've always wondered how well those water cooling sytems would actually work, but the cost & lack of space on my trucks put me off; this should be very interesting to watch. |
I can't wait to see this installed!
