It will work. I havnt come across anyone that has that esc and says it wont work with pistol grip.

What's_nitro? 05.10.2008 01:10 AM

Hey! Whaddaya know! It works! :mdr: And my battery trays came today- so guess what?

With the exception of a steering servo, I'm done! L@@K! (<--)

In keeping with the "brushless" theme, I was thinking of getting a Futaba BLS351 servo.

What? It's awesome! I don't care how much awesome things cost!

That thing looks sick! It is a beast for sure...:yipi:

I have one for my hyper st conversion. Looks to be a nice servo, but I will see how it compared to the hitec tg line. I have always been happy with futaba products, must have 20 of the 3050 servos, and they work great. $150 is a bit much for a servo though...

That thing oughta be sick in 2wd, burnouts and donuts hopefully:yes::yes: if no smoke, a smoke oil pump would be cool if u could get it to work:lol: This thing oughta haul a**:gasp: Video Time!

What's_nitro? 05.10.2008 10:58 PM

Thanks everyone! I may get some driving time after work tomorrow. If it goes well I will try to make a video the next time out. I might finally make one of the Rustler, too, since they BOTH use the same battery now.....muahahaha!

I love Futaba stuff, too. Tower had a $20 off $150 coupon code so I ordered it last night. :mdr: My Rustler has a S9155 in it. It's so smooth. I will always use digital servos now...

Hmm.. I haven't been doing much with this thing lately. The first time I drove it I balled up the foam inside the rubber tires. Of course they were glued, and, therefore, now they are junk. I bought some "soft" foams. They helped a lot as far as ballooning and such. However unless it is 90* outside I have little or no traction even with the 4wd re-attached. Not just during acceleration, but in corners as well. I almost always spin out; I probably could slow down but where's the fun in that?

Speaking of slowing down, I am going to need that second brake disc. The fade is so bad after I've been driving it a while. Are there any "mods" that use more resilient rotors/pads?

I need to support the body somehow. I can't drive with it on because it shakes violently in all directions. It's an easy fix but I don't have the parts right now. This project requires my attention once again, since I never really finished it in the first place...

lincpimp 07.19.2008 12:35 AM

Have you tried the 1/8 road rage tires with the molded foams? I have a set of those for my gtp. I actually have 2 with the molded foams, and 2 with the std foams. I will put the molded one on the front and the std on the rear and see if there is any difference. My gtp is still 4wd...

What's_nitro? 07.19.2008 12:49 AM

:oh: Those tires look nice. Are they new? I haven't seen them in that size before. Are there beadlock wheels available that will fit them?- Because I dont want to lose another complete set of wheels/tires should something get out of hand.

What would you say to these tires: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKGN3&P=M
My street is REALLY old pavement. The light grey, sandy, scaly kind. I figure a knobbier tread would help.

That brushless servo is awesome, though. I can see during turns, even if I'm not making the turn as planned, that the wheels at least remain pointed in the right direction with all that force against them.

I've never had any problems with traction on my OFNA.

I was able to get it up to 83mph on 8s:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_mBYWSHCLqs&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_mBYWSHCLqs&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

To solve the body flex, I made some body stiffeners from extra lexan I had laying around:

<img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/nick.maslowski/SGsJNZwhOtI/AAAAAAAACec/4Ag3ByL-Pho/s800/IMG_0115.JPG" />

I also removed the rear wing and added large vertical stabilizers:

I havent needed any mechanical brakes, I just use the brakes from the motor:

Heres a couple shots with all the data logging equipment (with GPS):

Hopefully something in my set up will help you out. Have you tried running the car with just motor brakes and not mechanical brakes?

lincpimp 07.19.2008 12:56 AM

They have had 1/8 buggy road rages for a while. They just recently started seling them with molded foams, so be careful if you buy them online.

Moabs are good all-purpose tires, not sure how good they are onroad at speed though. I have had great success with crimefightes on road, and in gravel and dusty conditions.

What's_nitro? 07.19.2008 01:05 AM

Nice ride. Did you get the 83mph with the rubber or the foam tires? Also, I wasn't aware that the HV110 could handle motor braking, being an air controller. That is something to consider. Or, that MGM 12032 that I've always wanted! Also, also, I will be making a "cover" for the bottom of the car to reduce drag and keep the air getting under the body. A larger wing may be in order, too, and therefore an actual wing mount.

Edit: I haven't tried motor brakes because the Sentilon doesn't support them, for car duty anyways. Only to slow a propeller.

Neither one of them are belted anyways. I'll be doing that myself. Something like this: [Duct tape] [FG packing tape] [Duct tape] with 180* offset seams. Of course I'll balance them, too. The thing that turned me on to the Moabs is that they look like the surface of my street! The RR have more contact area, and that would be great if my street was smooth (close up) and not so sandy.

I tried both the rubber and foams and got to 83 using both. Before using the HV-110, I also thought it wouldn't be able to handle braking, but it handles braking fine.

The only thing I am having problems with is the Neu 2215/3Y. The endbell comes loose after a full throttle pass and the power of the motor goes waaay down. I have to send it back to Steve Neu so I can get the endbell secured.

Your car set up looks good. I wonder why you have traction problems. I know OFNA makes rubber slicks for the GTP. Maybe you can try those. You have a killer paint job. I cant stand painting and I am terrible at it. I just paint everything white, lol.

So 83 with the rubber tires and the foams are still intact inside? Hmm.....

Thanks! I'm telling you it's my street that is to blame for the traction issues. I believe the Moabs will help tremendously. It never gets swept by my town so it's always sandy on top of the crappy surface. There's a sewer access cover right in the middle at either end of the straight that I have to watch out for or it will flip the car. I actually like the all white paint job. It's ghosty, and somehow to me that suggests speed...
