New Video
This vid was a blast to make, even tho it was a ton of editing... one in a million shot of me doing a 'stubtoe'- shifting into first then hitting full brake like a dumba$$... but no harm hehe.
Just 2 middle aged boys playin with tech that was a dream not so long ago... www.mediafire.com/download.php?ixmznlmchjn |
I know its nearly 3 months old, but I followed your link in your signature and just had to complement. Excellent job! Gives me some confidence to go ahead and try to build some of my own parts as opposed to just continuously buying the more expensive stuff. Examplarery work for how the RC hobby should be!

Well it's actually almost a year since I finished the V2. Where does the time go...man.
I am a welder by trade, but retired as far as a source of income, and more a machinist now. BUT this truck was built 95% with a bandsaw, hand drill/drill press and belt sander. As basic as it gets... The only other items I needed were a shear, punch press, and mill. The mill I needed for the A-arm pivot blocks and motor mount, but I (or anyone) could have done without the shear and punch press, a Dremel would do as well, just a bit slower. I could have used more exotic materials, but I didn't see a need for them and used what was readily available, and I'd encourage anyone to experiment with scrap material and just try different things until they get what they're looking for strength-wise and aesthetically. Everyone has their own tastes. Keep it safe and give it a go..... thanks for the compliments! |
Awesome video dude... You must've spent a snot load of time on that work... All of my bodies look like it's been runned down by a tank... Great Job..
|
Man, that is the most wicked thing ever dude!!! Congrats!!!
Looks to me like someone had way too much time, and way too much weed on hand for that project! HA!! Just kidding. |
Wow, I just checked out the vids! Impressive!!!! Like really really awesome footage. Looks like yer influence has rubbed off on yer buddies. All those trucks have wicked bodies and set ups! I need to go back thru the thread to see what yer running. I'm really curious cuz with that kind of driving and carnage, you would think that you'd be blowing diff's left and right!! Those things wheelie on demand like ALL over the place! Must be the ride height? My ERBE will wheelie like mad, even while moving at a pretty good clip. But nothing like yer trucks do. Of course, my ERBE is low slung and handles like it's on rails. This makes me want to pop a MMM and a NEU in my EMaxx now! I've got an LST2 waiting for the combo though.. should be really nice! I can't wait! Too bad it's freezing out!

Thanks J!! But there's really never enough of either is there? |
And yeah I only get probably 20-25 runs before the rear pinion takes a crap, that's life for a Traxxas, even if it's only like 25% Traxxas lol.

Yeah, I can imagine the diff fry pretty good! Have you ever tried the 1/8 diff's and the RCM cups? Or is nothing safe? Unless you want me to look back thru the thread, which I will... can you tell me the set up real quick? Motor, ESC, Pinion/Spur, Battery? That's all I need. The rest is unobtainable. HA! |
It's all in post #6, gearing is currently 22/64. The 64T is actually a Nitro Hawk part, Traxxas part # is 3164. They don't go that small for the Maxx spurs.
|
Oh, and it's spooled. Diffs in the rear won't last more than 1-2 runs lol, do not even try with a 15 pound truck:lol:
|
Definetly top-notch! :)
Wish I had the machining skills and tools; perhaps need to go do some classes at a local juco! |
thzero, if you're not looking to make a career out of it, there is a vast amount of info online, way more than enough to get you started!
Jpop, I failed to mention that gearing with my 3906 is not of much use for your 3905 as they are different transmissions. I think my bud is running 22/62, same 9XL 4S setup. It's good for 35ish, as is mine. In answer to your PM question, a spool simply replaces the diff cup for a posi rear end, Traxxas part # 5381X for yours. It's sold as a Revo spool, but those use the same diffs as the 3905 Maxx. If you're looking for the ultimate winter traction, then you can do front and rear. Just be warned it'll steer weird! |
shifty... how DARE you expose my ignorance in public!!!!!!!:lol:
BTW.... try saying "steer wierd" real fast over and over... ! |
Because in this way, your ignorance may help others. In the giving spirit, I felt it worthy of posting.
Did I put a good spin on that? And no, I will not. :) |
