Ebay for the aluminium, im changing the shock oil now, and de-purpleing it, i'll see how it drives. initial tests were good, it felt nimble.

made a start on the shell

Very nice truck! My question is about the spur though. I once mocked up a layout like yours with the center diff, and concluded I'd need a 42t spur to not have it protrude through the chassis on a CRT. Yours appears custom, did you have it made? What tooth count? Are you able to get acceptable ratios?

Candyman2 03.21.2009 02:44 PM

the spur is a standard kyosho 44t. I made the diff mounts so I was able to make it whatever height i wanted, I milled a small recess in the chassis but didnt go all the way through as i think it just lets dirt in, I just wanted the gear to sit as low as possible. Thne I put a plate under the rear gearbox to bring it inline with the centre unit.

Sweet build up.
I like the new RC.

pb4ugo 03.21.2009 04:33 PM

I'd never seen the Kyosho spur in white.

Looks like you did a good job with the 7deg front bend, how did you do that?

suicideneil 03.21.2009 05:11 PM

He's called the Candyman because all his builds are SWEET.

:mdr:

That is truelly beautiful though- the annoying thing is he can do shells and chassis', makes me green with envy....

Candyman2 03.21.2009 05:57 PM

thanks mate.

as for the bend it was a highly technical process of clamping the front bit in a vice and pushing on it like a mad man.

The only thing you might want to change on that setup are the shocks/ shocktowers. there sure is some room for improvement on the stock suspension

To be honest, the towers leave something to be desired (adjustment mostly) but the stock shocks are actually great shocks. Pretty much just need aluminum shock ends. They seem to be a problem.

As far as suspension and drivetrain, I know of a ton of things you can do to make it handle better than most newer truggies. I've done most of em to mine and it really helps. 8mm axles, buggy upper arms, 22* front hubs, Mugen tie rods, etc. Let me know if you want any more info on them.

im playing with shock oil at the mo, just to get it to a nice setup, might test again today. My rear axles are a bit shot, did I read right that hpi hellfire cvds fit?

masking takes so long on shells I find

Beautiful truck CM, you could lose about 1/3 of the weight of the batteries with lipo's (more mah as well) but i won't push. I am glad the motor works good

If I'm not mistaken, the are a different length. I know some people have gone to the Hellfire suspension setup and that requires the Hellfire axles. Not sure on that though. Best bet is to get the LST CVD bones (~$25 for all 4 I think), LST CVD rebuild kit x2, and I believe Sportworks Mayhem stub axles. That leaves you with 8mm axles all around as well as CVDs all around instead of dog bones in the rear, and allows you to run 17mm hubs. Pretty much any buggy hub will work as long as the cross pin is 2.5mm I believe. CRT is 2.0mm if I remember correctly, so thats one of the few that isn't gonna be ideal (Learned that the hard way).

Candyman2 03.22.2009 12:08 PM

Right, thanks for the offer Bithead!

Ok then, I found some HB LSP cvds so i'll order them. I'll leave the rest of it alone, its all pretty beefy and its not like im racing or gonna be giving in a hard time, its got 17mm hubs already, so thats the main thing.

quite proud of this! I'll get some shots on the truck later, its still a bit wet at the moment.
