Thanks man, yeah I've got a flashpoint. What's too hot for the motor, esc and battery just to be safe. :)

I try to keep all my motors below 160, normally more like 150. ESC should be fine below 180. If yours is getting that hot something is wrong though because the fan should keep it under 160. I try to keep my lipos under 120, if I see 120 at the shrinkwrap I give them a few minutes to cool off because the cell temp will be hotter than that.

150, 180 & 120 OK, thanks for the help.

Uhh Sully, the fan kicks in at 150F and beyond that I think the thermal protection kicks in. :neutral:

IIRC the fan comes on at 140. If you're getting much more than 160 than the fan is either damaged or not capable of handling the heat. If it can't handle the heat you're most likely pulling WAY too many amps.

Looks like he got his ESC replaced. Curious to see what happens now... :neutral:

IMO, Castle is off the hook for the Flux esc, the minute a guy slaps on the huge tires, etc.

Good lord, this is not Castle's fault. If they choose to warranty this at all, props to them. But this is not an opportunity to bash the mfg!!!

Pardon me while I get on the Ford forums to complain... I totally smoked the clutch on my '93 Escort GT after only 3 mile trip across town in stop and go traffic. I was pulling my 21' ski boat to the lake... hit third gear WOT and it just started slipping and smoking.... arg!!!

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

That was classic GD, thanks for the morning laugh!

I'd like to clear one thing up, I did not lower the EPA it's 100%. But I'll admit it's my fault. The gearing and that stupid filter idea have killed it. But HPI need to have more and better info in the manual. Because if the manual is right, I've geared down 5 teeth(20%) running the stock 20t pinion over the recommended 25t. There's no way the motor or esc got over 135* on the first two runs I was checking it. Yes I have a temp gauge. Thanks Freeze for the link. There's a few arseholes at the MRC forum isn't there.
Well at least he can admit he is the fault (and the HPI manual). Calling us names doesn't do him any good though, we weren't the ones that told him to fry his ESC but rather explained why he cooked it. There's a reason I tell everyone to check their temps all the time when trying unknown gearing combos and that's because you could fry something if you push it too hard.

The guy obviously had a piss poor attitude to begin with which is obvious by his posts. If he would have used some tact and not cussed like a 13 year old more people would have helped him. I have always found out that most of the time life is 90% attitude. That's why I like this forum, everything runs on an even keel and the attitudes are kept in check. No one with a bad attitude lasts long here no matter what knowledge they bring.

+1. It was nice that he could at least man up and accept responsibility for it, but he definitely over-reacted to it blowing out.

He has no idea... The few we have here would run this dork off so fast...
