1/8 buggy tires are lighter than most typical 1/10 treads. Yes there is more leverage on the hub but the tires/wheels are lighter which will help.
I have been running masher 2k's on my .5 for awhile and the bearings have not gotten sloppy yet. I would be willing to change out the bearings or possibly replace a hub once a year to have the benefit of running 1/8 buggy tires. |

The hubs are shipping out tomorrow. Should have them by the end of the weekend. Will update as soon as I can :)

I believe they will be released as soon as I get the trial set and test the fitment and tolerances. I plan to bash it pretty hard for about 5 packs with various 1/8 tire sizes so that will help judge any possible problems.
I am pretty sure they will be great though :) I suggested to Jamie that they be available through RC-monster so we can give Mike some business so we will see. |
Got the adapters in the mail today. Will get some pics up and some testing done asap!

I got the mounted but ran into a slight fitment issue.
I have contacted Jamie to see what he wants me to do (adjust adapters to fit and then test or test as is). I am assuming he wants them to be good to go before production so I will wait for his response. Otherwise I have them mocked up and the truck looks great! |
What kind of fitment issue is it? Have any pics of them mounted up?

I have a test set also and i am having a fitment issue , the adapters wont fit over the axle , i tried to dremel them a lil bigger but unfortunetly i broke my bit doing it, any suggestions bc id really like to test these out on the ste for everyone. got a new set of 1/8th wheels and tires aswell.

Why doesn't someone just send FLM a crt.5 axle (and maybe a Hyper Mini-ST axle) so they can measure and get the tolerances exactly right.

My problem is the pin hole is not large enough. The pin fits through the adapter by itself, as well as through the axle (obviously its a stock pin). The problem is once the adapter is on the axle it will not go all the way through (its like a tenth of a MM from going). One of them mounted up perfect, the other 3 I cant get the pin through. I think im just going to open up the pin hole a TINY bit so there is more space so they can go through. THe second problem, is the axle pin hole is drilled on the VERY edge of the adapter, so there is about 1mm of space between the mounted adapter and the bearing. This of course results in slop. I asked if he wanted to take measurements and redrill them (probably yes) or if he wanted to include shims to shim out the difference so there is no gap. Still waiting on a response...! I will try to get a picture up soon. I have some 1/8 badlands on one side of the truck and some Ofna Blaser SST stadium tires/wheels (no longer made, but I think they are the perfect bashing size. About 3/4 inch taller and about 3/4 inch wider than the badlands 1/8 tires). I think 1/8 buggy tires are going to be the best overall though, for racing/bashing etc. Its just nice having a slightly taller tire to gain ground clearance for really rough terrain. |
Here are a few crappy pictures. Sorry my batt is almost dead and I cant locate my charger so I only was able to snap a few (and some are a bit blurry because the flash would not cooperate).
Gives you an idea anyway! Its quite small (~1mm) but enough to leave a pretty good amount of play once a tire is mounted up. I think im going to just shim it out (not tight but just to kill most of the play). If I dont hear from Jamie soon im just going to open up the holes on the 3 adapters that are tight, shim up the adapters and start running them! Then he can decide if he wants to retool his design a bit. If it were me I would: - move the pin hole on the adapter back about 1mm OR include shims - Figure out the pin diameter needed (like I said one of mine is perfect, other 3 will not fit so I am guessing the 3 just did not have the bit run through them long enough) - Include O-rings to go over the adapter/pin to keep the pin in place. He included 4 snap ring type deals but they are very stiff and hard to work with. I have used o-rings on adapters like this before and had no problem with o-rings as long as they are wide/tight enough to not move around. I will update you guys when I can. -Mike |
You won't hear from Jamie until next week at the earliest - he had a funeral to go to this weekend (Jamie had a bit of a rough week).
Regarding the holes - did you try all 4 adapters on the same axle or did one fit one axle and the other 3 didn't fit the next available axle? They are turned on a cnc lathe(each part is run exactly the same as the one before it), so I would suggest that the holes are all the same - perhaps a burr is present, or there is a slight tolerance variance on the axles or a combination of these issues? I would shim the gap and run them - The idea is to see if the wide offset is going to cause any problems with the small axle and small bearings - the hole location, etc. are small details that can easily be worked out if they go into production - need to see howwell they work first, though. :) |
