Some servos on higher voltages were causing voltage spikes up come back up the line and take out the BEC. With the addition of the TVS, it prevents the high voltage spikes from damaging components.

Nice info.

Thanks for that info Thomas - Trigger finger is getting itchy and was just about to hit enter for one of these. What is the suggestion at this point? Order one in stock now and immediately send it in? Or wait for V2 to hit the shelves. Not sure which will get on in my truck the quickest.

Got my V2 from Castle Creations today. Got it installed and ready to go. I went ahead and got a CC BEC Pro just to ease the duties on the ESC. New Mamba XL has a Big White sticker that says "REV. 2" on it. Also a small round sleve on the red battery cable that says "New Stock".

I would run the heck out of the V2 except it is snowing like crazy tonight. Feels like I pissed of Mother Nature. I am gonna smack that B***h.

Anyway, I will do some running if the streets dry. Wish me luck on my V2.

Hey Tom...I was talking with Joe at RCX. Is there any chance that the one that is being delivered to my LHS tomorrow from Horizon Hobby be a V2? It came off back order last week.

I hope so, would hate to have to ship it out.

Thanks
John

Guess that answers my question???

OK I run BEC Pros on mine which I guess helps with this issue.

My second mamba xl smoked. Was bran new, didnt make 2 metters with the car.
First time i connected it was ok, so i disconected went outside to test it and nothing but smoke...

First MXL is got bec pro on it to and it is working ok, my temp are 99°C after 15 min of driving..dont kow why this hight temps as if i drive under 15 min temperature is up to 80°C. After 15 min of driving goes above 90 up to 99°C.
Any advice?

Will be sending second mxl to castle for repairs. As i am from EU this will take some time.

Here a bad pic "sorry".

My V2 esc is scheduled to be here tomorrow, should I update it to the latest firmware or run it as is?

Knez 04.14.2011 01:58 PM

Castle will be sending me new one tomorrow.

Thank you CC!

BrianG 04.14.2011 03:26 PM

This will be the third one right? If this one goes up in smoke, I would probably start looking at why they are all blowing. Especially since your last one heated up so much so fast. Assuming you aren't geared ridiculously, heating up that fast would make me suspect the motor (possible partial demagnetized)...

Knez 04.14.2011 06:28 PM

First MXL i got is working ok for now, only temp. is high.
Data loger says from last driving max temp was 125°C.
I do use slipper lock kit.

Second MXL i bought is the one i send to cc, it just smoked.
Motor is actually new, as it was only used few times. Should be ok.

Knez 05.15.2011 08:07 AM

Hmm, the last esc that i received from castle that was under warranty repair went out in smokes and that was Mamba XL Ver 2. But my first MXL that i bought is working with bec pro with no problems!

Here a video :

Mamba XL Ver2. smoked

First run was ok, whole 20 minutes of driving. Second run we tried, well u saw the rest. Will send it again to CC for warranty repairs...

Raydee 05.15.2011 08:10 AM

WOW that stinks. There has to be a problem somewhere that is causing that, Can I ask what Lipo's you are running to get 20 min of run time out of the buggy?

Jahay 05.15.2011 08:11 AM

I would be so pissed if my MMXL kept failing like this...

I knew the MMM had probs, but i dont recall them being this serious!

Considering a caslte ESC takes 1 month to send back and for them to return a new one... you would never be running your truck!!!!
