Took it out for a run at the local RC drag club today. Best run was a 1.9?? @110KM/h.
The local guys said they had seen plenty of nitro 1/8 onroad cars go down the strip, and even though top speeds were similar my ET was 3-4 tenths quicker due to how hard it was leaving the line. Overall I'm very happy with the top speed as with this project my goal was a similar top speed to my nitro counter parts, now if I can only shed 1Kg of weight out of this thing to get it down to 2.5 Kg it will be a force to be reckoned with. |
It's been months now since my MGM failed I then ordered a V2 MMM and it failed within seconds of turning it on. But the good news is my MMM V3 just turned up woot woot :yipi: I have tested it in the car on the bench. It powered up and calibrated as it should and I can't wait to hit the track (when it stops raining).
I need to get a new video up on youtube for all the non believers. http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=gGlx5_-r1rU |
just curious with the MMM v3 why dont you try gearing it up to do 75 with a one speed and see if it handles the 180's OK. that would save some weight. i cant hear in your vid where it is shifting.

Not sure what you mean by "180's ? But I intentionally limited the top speed achievable by the car, hence the top speed wouldn't exceed that of a gas powered 1/8th onroad. This way they can't complain that it is too fast to race against them at my club  I would at some stage like to reverse the pinion and spur eg. 20T spur and 48T pinion. That works out to a theoretical top speed of 643.06 km/h (400.33 mph) or drag adjusted 221 km/h 138 mph - 66% loss (Thanks to BrianG's calculator) :rules: That would be a handful!!! |
Countryhick,
i love that you have stuck with this project for so long. i have 3 that i am working on now that will most likely take a few months to get them all done. one of them is a 1/8 scale on road with a 3speed tranny(strictly going to be a top speed runner). anyway, the car looks great. cant wait to see more vid of it. you MUST check out this post. it was the first post i ever saw here at RC MOnster and it's why i joined. when i saw how clean this conversion was i knew the guys here must know what they are doing. it is a brushless Serpent posted by Serum. tons of pics and an absolutely beautiful build. maybe give you some ideas for your carbon fiber work if you havent completed already. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6281 |
Very nice build, Countryhick! I can't wait for the new video! :yipi:

Is your onroad setup a Shumacher?? I will take some new pics in the next few days now that the MMM is in and the MGM is out! It looks a little neater than the last pics I posted. If you have some build threads for your projects, "link me up"!! |

another fun project right now is a custom Assoc. RC8T. hoping it turns out. going all out on this one. here is the thread of my Losi 8T i recently did. i love this truggy. it does over 60mph(i think that is around 120kmh) and is a blast to drive! http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15876 |

I guessed it was a Shuie because they are the only car I know of having a 3 speed transmission.
Here are some new pics with my MMM mounted. |

Took it for a test spin today. First thing I looked for after giving it a boot full was the punch control!!!! (to turn it down) It's incredible the amount of torque these NEU 4 pole motors produce. So after getting a feel for the car again, I gave it a couple of flat out runs WOW!!!! I forgot how fast this thing is...
So after a few speed runs I bring it in just to keep and eye on temps. I was surprised at how cool the MMM runs (compared to my old MGM) the speed control was lucky to be a couple of degrees above ambient, needless to say the fan was not running either. The next thing I wanted to test was how smooth the MMM was from a stand still to a slow crawl, again WOW!!! This thing feels like one of my old sensored motors from my touring car (they were super smooth down low) there was not even a hint of cogging. So after keeping an eye on the temps for while longer (still barely above ambient) it was time for some more high speed passes. On about my third pass (@ around 120Kph) I ran over a piece of bark on the road, this was enough to allow wind to catch under the front of the body and over she went. I pretty much wrote of a near new body due to it sliding on it's roof for around 25-30 meters. I know it's early days but I think the V3 MMM is going to be one solid controller. :yipi: I'm going to the local RC drags on Saturday, I will be taking my video camera so I should have some new footage up after the weekend. Here is a pic of the body (after the roof slide) |
So Countryhick,
i just finished my 3speed Schumacher and took it out for a test run. Not bad. it brought a grin to my face. i wore out a brand new set of tires on one battery. not the speeds i was hoping for but it still is a 70mph (120kph) car. right now it is in raw form and kinda ugly. now that i got it running and like the setup i am going to clean it up real nice. like yours. your ride is looking great. its come along way from a few months back. i will post some pics later today. |
so here is my schumacher 3 speed i finished. i put the gps on it and it did 74mph. not bad. not the 100mph i was hoping for but just a gearing issue. but this is plenty fast and drivable. but it has no grip. it slides all over and went thru a pair of tires after 2 batteries. i ordered some foams. we'll see how they do. now i am finishing the RC8T and then its on to my 1/5 scale on road. been slowly starting on that one.
the schumacher is kinda ugly right now. just wanted to get it done to see how it ran. now i am going to clean it up with tons of carbon fiber, titanium, and aluminum. i will post more pics later. <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC00575.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC00575.jpg" border="0" alt="schumacher3"></a> <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC00576.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC00576.jpg" border="0" alt="schumacher2"></a> <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC00577.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC00577.jpg" border="0" alt="schumacher1"></a> |
Countryhick nice video. It's awesome I am looking to convert one also.
