I am wondering if MGM ESC's would be more reliable than MMM. I have three MMM V2 sitting at Castle right now waiting for replacement after about 1 hour use on each unit and now Im wondering if I should try something else.
Money aside, with CC at least if my MMM goes out I may have to wait a month or two or more, but ultimately they replace. With MGM, I am hearing that it is not as easy since they are out of the country. I am very tempted to try MGM. I will give my replacement MMM another shot when they arrive, if I have any more problems with them I think I will be giving up. I dont think its my setup because I am using NEU 1515 1.5d and NEU 1512 2.5d on my Losi 8ight Truggy and Buggy respectively. They are powered by NEU 4s 5000mah 25c Lipos. Temperatures for batteries are around 120's, motors are 140's, and ESC's are 130's. All 10 guage wiring througout. Like I said if I still have problems with v3, I will be giving up on MMM. I may want to try out Losi's Xcelerion System, or maybe just try out the MGM ESC. Lets all keep our fingers cross. http://good-times.webshots.com/album/562025697XGWJlX |
I just had another v2 fail...1515 1Y on 4S MaxAmps 8000MAH in an e-revo geared 22/58 with a UBEC. ran for ten minutes and just quit. Amber light was really dim and flickering.. Could disco batteries for a few and power it back up, but as soon as you hit the throttle, it would quit. Something smoked as you could smell it.
Just happened to be running an Eagletree V3 and can say that all levels were pretty much in line. Max Amp draw was 95 Amps. Voltage never dropped below about 14.5V. Motor RPM I think peaked out around 34K. Temps were all negligible. |
Hey JaySki,
I had a similar problem where when I hit the throttle the LED lights were dimming. It turned out it was my Lipo cutoff setting. I manually had it set to like 12.5 on 4s and I had that problem (even with brand new fresh batteries). I just set it to "auto" and it fixed the problem. Dont know if this will work for you. I heard sometimes restoring to factory defaults help too. |
Tried that already, but thanks for the advice.

Oh that sucks, welcome to the party!

The MGM is expensive compared to the MMM, and it's commendable that so many on here are so patriotic to an American company. I just decided it was worth the extra to have a truggy that was up and running reliably rather than sit and look at something waiting on the next promise on delivery and reliability. I hope whatever you do you get sorted and are soon back out there having fun. |
I heard that the delay is due to the spring in the clutch. Tekno said you can run without spring for more punch. But, the delay to me seem neglegible since the spring on the shoes are suppose to lessen the load put on the motor, and I want the reliability. Like I said one more chance for MMM. I think I have been very patient!

I have a new MMMv2 sitting at the lhs, I think I may wait for the v3, i dont like these types of frustrations. I know CC is realy good with the warranty, but I wont be racing again till April. :(

well... now that I bought the MMM (preorder) $170 It burnt out two servos $40 I bought the MM as a back up $120 Along with a UBEC $25 and a fan $10 I feel I spent close to what I would have if I had gone MGM  my only saving grace is that I know Castle has my back. MGM seems to replace most, but they seem to be a bit more picky with their replacement policy. With all the time my truck has been sitting here collecting dust with over $2K invested.....I'm thinking I should have gone with the TMM 25035-3 Car / Boat E-SERIES. Good for upto 8s 250-300A. I only run 6s, so it should handle my set-up with ease. |
my second v2 s still working fine :D

Personally I've heard a lot of good things about their customer service and they've always replied within a day to any questions I've had and been very polite on the phone. I think you'll find european companies in general are less tolerant of any claims where there are any signs of operator abuse but will look after you if there's clearly an issue with the product. I just hope that all the trust faith shown on here in CC isn't misplaced and it all comes good in the end, I'm sure it will, I'm just too impatient to wait! |
Has anyone heard about the software update for V3? I heard from Castle that a big part of the failures was due, in part, to software. They had said that the newest version would be released this week. I have an unused V2 that I am waiting to use once it gets the updated firmware. (I was soooo tempted to throw it in my E-Revo this past weekend and run it without the updated software, but I managed to resist!)
Has anyone heard anything more about the release of this new firmware? |

If you know your planning to run a set up which people have experienced problems with you may decide to hang back and wait for the update before using it. Personally I chose not to wait and went with MGM, but despite the problems one of the things that is apparent from this thread is that there are a lot of people who have faith in CC to resolve the issues and provide them with a good product at a reasonable price. When the issues are finally resolved there's a fair chance I shall buy one as it will be interesting to see how they compare with what I'm running now. |
So the V3 is only gonna have a software update? I am going to assume that if i get the V2 i could just update it through catle link, correct?

Sneaky Pete, Bust the fan connector off the bottom & cut the fan grill out & let that Monster fly. If it dies, send it in. If you don't run it now, how can you brake it & send it in to get your V3? :whip: We were looking for ya at the track this weekend.

Well, in case you all got the wrong impression that I'm patient (and therefore waited patiently this weekend while everyone else was racing), I couldn't wait any longer to get an update. So I called Castle again today.
Tech support conveyed to me this afternoon when I called them that the updated firmware should be released either later tonight or tomorrow morning assuming there aren't any last minute problems with the software. I also asked them about the release of the replacement/new units and production is scheduled to start by the end of the week. |

I'm pretty sure he's done with updates. They are workin on it. Everytime Patrick has updated in the past, it opens a world of follow up questions...and people ridicule Castle for delays. Hopefully we will all get them home soon.
|
I agree with hoov. I've noticed that too. Even a single post to say hi and everyone has a question. Even if he posts they are ready it will just open up even more questions. I can only thank Castle for my MM to hold me over until I get my MMM back. Making the hobby fun and affordable is what its all about for me. Throw in a couple of cool features and I'm sold.

is the v3 worth for waiting?
or is a mgm 160a the better choice? mmm is much cheaper. |

Well, according to Castle's Tech Support, it doesn't look like the firmware update is going to be released this week. A few small issues popped up that they are working on fixing. He also said that it shouldn't be much longer. Sorry to get everyone's hopes up earlier, but I was merely passing on the info that they had given me over the phone.
