You guys need to check with a blacksmithing board or some one that does this for a living or has done this many times. When I was modifying my Ruger 10/22 Trigger assembly 2 parts had to be annealed (for adding setscrews) and then hardened again. My disconnector was perfect, but the sear edge of the hammer was too soft and I went through 3 hammers until I got it right. You need to use a Oxy/Acet torch to get a part like that hot enough. There is a chemical that is a powder that surface hardens steel parts, but I can’t remember what it is called right now. I’ll look into it, but basically it case hardens the outside of the gear. You heat up to a certain temp and dip it into the powder and allow it to cool. That way the outside of the teeth are hard, but the center of the tooth is softer so it doesn’t shatter.

It's a little bigger than my std sized servos. As for spline, I'm using one of the arms that came with the baja kit. It says "Hi 8mm" on it. So Hitec I guess. Only problem is, the baja comes with a few arms F 25 Hi 24 KO 23 Hi 8mm So not sure what the tooth count is lol. |

at first i bought the futaba s5050 for steering servo but i just traded it in for the HPI SFL 30MG digi servo so that i had the 8mm spline and could use the massive HPI servo arm. |
ok, so i got my camera working again. here are some pics of recent work on the 1/5.
modded bumper. looks much more like truggy bumper. <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01253.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01253.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat35"></a> picked up a set of chrome spoke wheels. <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01254.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01254.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat34"></a> here are the integy disc brakes. coming along nice but not done yet. cant wait to get these all hoooked up. <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01255.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01255.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat33"></a> <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01256.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01256.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat32"></a> set of modded baja 5b shocks on the rear. baja front shocks to come this week. these are 10x better than the rampage shocks and have a huge 6mm shock shaft for super strength. <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01257.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01257.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat31"></a> used a set of kyosho big bore shock boots as dog bone boots. these work much better than the huge HPI or Darksoul boots they sell for this. <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01258.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01258.jpg" border="0" alt="shockbootRR"></a> so this week should be a good week. i am anticipating getting my motor mount and spur gear back from the machine shop, my Hydra hv240 arrives, and a few other things that i plan to get done. i am hoping to have something that is starting to resemble a finished truck by next week. we'll see. |
looks great!!
I am curious how the breaks are. |

carbon fiber brake discs, cool. do you have to balance the break-power or does that work automatically? I remember that from eg. old landrover, when the mechanical breaks are not well adjusted, the car turns right or left when breaking.

Lookin' good man.. lookin' good...

Very nice, I'm jealous. And I wanna see a closeup of the brakes without the disc. I'm curious where the mounting holes lined up.
With your brake bias, your right you don't have to worry front to rear right now. But you do have to worry about left to right, as there is a diff between them. If it is off it'll probably be most noticable when you first apply the breaks, or when applying light to moderate pressure. The solid center diff will help even things out alot, as each wheel is not as independant. With your skills I'm sure it'll be setup pretty close on the bench either way. Keep it up |
I got my 2215 today and "it's so big !"
 |
wow. great work. Look forward to the end result

Here you go. Shown with a crank case bearing from a 30.5cc engine. |
one question.
Does phoenix hv 110 be enough with Neu 2215 2y and 12s A123 ? |

I would ditch them and get some high discharge lipo's... |

hv 110 can use with neu 2215 2y or not? |
Surely can. Gear appropriately.

what parts were you trying to sell on ebay again? you should list them again. they will sell eventually. would love to see you do a conversion also now that you got the motor. |

Motor looks nice Kaz... |
Center ring and pinion, gas tank, and upgrade kit gear plate.
I'm selling my LST2, 1515/1Y, and MMM now also. I found these motor mounts. I might go with them. http://www.southriverrcboats.com/sho...3DWRP-B-358%26 |
Boat mounts! they should work great! And you can mount them anywhere.

you can get them for 15xx or 22xx series. i cant remember who tried them but someone here on the forum had tried them and said they werent the greatest but i think they should hold. it says the 22xx series mount is .33" thick. i hope you get your stuff sold soon. i have so much stuff up for sale right now too. i am selling all those rampage parts i got on ebay. there was only a couple of things i needed. so i just finished getting all the shocks done. now i have a complete set of Baja shocks on my Ramp. they are so smooth and supple. for the rear i just used a set of baja fronts straight up. for the fronts i had to cut about 12mm off the shock body and shaft. .then i made the shaft use e-clips to hold the piston instead of a nut. i think it will hold up. but i just love how these shocks feel with the petroleum oil instead of silicone. baja shock shaft before: <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01262.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01262.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat44"></a> after modding: <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01261.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01261.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat45"></a> <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01259.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01259.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01264.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01264.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat42"></a> had to grind away just a tiny bit of the a-arms on the front and rear for the baja shocks to freely move. <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01265.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01265.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat41"></a> <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01266.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01266.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat40"></a> |
I have 2 pair of those boat motor mounts for 15 series neu motors. Not too bad, but I am not sure if I would use them in a car, not the strongest thing I have seem.
That being said if anyone wants them I will sell em off, no use for them. |
Quote:
btw, you would most likely still want to build some mounting plates in order for this mount to work so you can adjust mesh. otherwise you would need to cut a elongated holes in your chassis. what did you do linc? did you ever use the mount? |
Nope, was going to use them in the baja conversion, but decided that I do not really like 2wd.
I will drop kaz a line, but he needs some 22 series mounts. I think... The redcat is looking good Ryu, I look forward to your progress. |
I think I will just go with a thick piece of angle aluminum for a motor mount.
|
Quote:
|
Do you think it necessary with 4 mounting bolts?
|
I would, the weight of the motor will flex the strongest of AL mounts, plus that puts alot of stress on one end of the motor. Having a rear motor support will allow for a thinner front mount, and less chance of gear mesh issues.
|
yep, that's right, go for front and rear angles. Aluminium isn't that stiff as many people think. You should go for a rear aluminium angle as well. Regarding the front mount, I have mixed an Alu-Angle (for cooling purposes), which is screwed on the chassis, with Carbon/glass fiber:
http://s3b.directupload.net/images/090709/krm32k2o.jpg http://s8.directupload.net/images/090709/6lmx5tia.jpg like that, it was quite easy to build as well. you just need a good glue (epoxy), sand the surface etc. when you add an angle at the rear, you should have a very stiff and rugged setup, and less temperature issues. |
A "U" shaped piece of aluminum should work as well, I would think.
|
|
in regards to supporting the rear of the motor i would especially with these 2215s cuz the front endbell is screwed on by those tiny 2-56 screws. i really dont like that about the 2215 to be honest. i am pretty sure the older version was a solid closed can with only the rear endbell screwed on. i think this is a better design especially when all the weight of the motor is being mounted off the front endbell. anyway, i wish that Neu just made the 22xx's with a one-piece can with removable rear endbell. like the Tekno Neu 15xx's are.
