An update... I recently employed a CC Mamba Monster for my truck the when the Quark 125B went up in smoke after one of the
Caps got loose and shorted it out... Also... my new Lipos are finally here... I am now running the truck on Turnigy 40c, 4000mah
2s and 3s... I am loving this new power combination... I did notice that the Quark was still much smoother on slow starts than
Mamba Monster... On roll off, the Monster cogs noticeable... but when the trigger is squeezed, the Monster puts out... Nice ESC...
lots of power and who lot of features to play with. Oh... I pick up a set of Novak Mod 1 pinions (15t, 16t and 17t) off ebay for .99c

Did a run today to see what kind of temps I would be getting from the new setup... the bash session went on for about 25 minutes...
Lots of long 'high speed' passes and hard braking too... it's quick... a ton of torque got to the rears pretty quickly even when the
diff unloaded to the fronts, resulting in some really cool launches from a standing... braking was great... I think I can still turn
down the percentage to reduce locks ups... see the below temps...

ESC - 30% punch control | 3.5v per cut off | 50% reverse| 50% braking | 125°
CC 1520 1y - 17t Novak | 140°
OFNA Spider diff - 50wt oil (half full) | 168°
Batts - 105° average
Bow-ties - (now tread free ) 130°

I am really happy with the setup at this time... but it will need some more work...

ANGRY-ALIEN 09.24.2010 09:50 AM

It's 4.3mm... planning on building one? You can use 3mm carbon, I am sure it'll be thick enough ... I used 4.3 because I saw it going for cheap on ebay...

BUSTED:lol::lol::lol: Yeah, I would love to have an e maxx like that but I am not sure if I can spend so much money:whistle::neutral:

ANGRY-ALIEN 09.24.2010 01:24 PM

well the whole point of the chassis project was to reduce spend by doing it myself... it was a lot of fun going through the process of sourcing the bits to get this bad boy together... and I can appreciate it
a lot more when I stand back and say... "I did that with my hands!'":yipi:... I got the FLM chassis braces from Mike for a good price and from there i started looking really cheap deals on Carbon Fiber...
I am sure you'll have a good time with a project like this... just be pacient (it took me over a year to get to this point and there is still more to be done)... I know funds are tight everywhere now, but
just keep your eyes open for good deals, they're out there...

Alien

RC toy 09.24.2010 01:59 PM

I was also thinking about making my own custom chassis braces.Something like FLM but a bit longer to lenghten my maxx by 40mm.
I already have an 3908 E maxx with bigbores, CVDs, two speed conversion set and new revo 3.3 rims with offset.
I am still waiting for two 3S 6000 mah lipos and charger!

BTW. Whos Mike? Everybody's talking about him but I dont understand. Link to his store or something?

You should do some researching in this forum from about 5 years ago or more when this forum, Mike and a few others were the original pioneers into the brushless world. Will give some appreciation of where the Electric RC world came from and where it is now.

I dont understand how did you mount Pro-line steering/servo saver? I know that with UE steering/servo saver you have to mount it to flat surface(I mean you have to cut those two litle poles from stock emaxx 3905 chassis). So does this one you are using mounts the same as UE or you have done modifications?

PS. : What runtimes you get with your 5S batteries?(also tell me the mah count)

The pro-line steering servo saver assembly or the truck didn't need any modifications to install it... it's pretty straight forward actually... well.... both the carbon upper
plate and skid plate that it is mounted between are flat... I can't recall ever reading that modifications to the chassis are required for this servo saver...

I bash a lot (full throttle mostly)... the truck will run up to 20 mins before the lvc kicks in... not bad for 'cheap' packs... they are 40C and 4000mah... I'm going get some
40c 5000s when i eventually start racing...

I totally missed this build! but it is Awesome to say the least. What do you guys think about using a scroll saw for cutting carbon fiber. You know the tool used to do intricate wood work.

I did consider the scroll at one point, but getting one in the island would prove very expensive... I don't see why it wouldn't be option... you will need to find some tungsten carbide cutting tools
for it though... Carbon fiber is relatively easy to cut, but softer tools will wear easily...

Hey Rc Toy, I measured the chassis brace and got 7mm... regarding upgrades, I recently with some help from Zack got the 'Motherlode' suspension repair kit from UE and
rebuilt the shocks...I saw big improvement in dampening and balance of the truck during acceleration and deceleration... I also employed a set of RPM knuckles with 15mm bearings...
I have done an extensive test with them yet for me to give a feedback... I'll throw the truck around as soon as i get some time and you'll know how well it works out...

I am asking because I am thinking about custom braces and not sure if 0.190 (4.82mm) of 7075 T6 was enough

I am not so sure myself... that looks a question you would have to throw out in the General Discussion section...

Yeah, why not... lots of fun hearing the tyres on the asphalt when they spool up... I'm not so sure about the LED colour at full tilt... i'll check it for you when i get home...

It is not the colour, its the flashing. I am not sure if it should be solid or flash. If your is solid than I have got isues because mine just flash very fast.:whip:

ANGRY-ALIEN 12.13.2010 02:18 PM

well yah... that sounds like an issue your having there... have a look at the instruction booklet and try trouble shoot the problem or have a look

It kinda sounds like you need to recalibrate the ESC. I believe that the Castle ESCs flash when you are only partial throttle and solid when full.

I just have to say this truck is one of the top five of all builds on RCM IMO. Just stunning looks, takes a beating and has the perfect motor/esc for the truck. And nobody has a truck just like it!

I wish I could afford building a good maxx, but I have to stick with trucks/buggies that don't need to much upgrades. One day, maybe....!

Wow... very kind words... thanks man... it's been in the 'family' for five years now i think... and it has go through quite a transformation.... hope to keep it for a little longer...
you don't need to spend too much too soon on a build like this... just take your time and acquire the parts you want and build slowly...

thanks again for the compliment....

Making a small update... I added some Losi sway bars this weekend... it was not the easiest mod so far, but i had fun doing it... didn't make any runs with the truck yet,
so I have no feedback regarding performance... the sway bars are also being used as 'limiters'... I had some issues with the shocks shafts popping out of the balls ends
whenever the truck had a rollover... see the below pics... I will make some more updates on this soon...

Cool man! I can't wait until you get some behind-the-wheel feedback. When you lift up with your hand on one wheel does the other side come up aswell? Does it move any? Mine moves slightly. I wonder if the wire is too stiff on mine. I'm not sure.

My Maxx has been at home for several months while I've been away at school. I can't wait to run it on the upcoming spring break. I still have to install the front sway bar.

Hey Zack... the mechanics of the layout works well... but i think the bars are a little thin to make good influence with the heavy springs installed on the shocks...
for 1" of movement I make with one arm, I get about 1/4" of travel on the other... I am currently using 2.5mm and 2.7mm bars for now... I am going to do a search
for some 3mm or 3.5mm spring steel to see if the movement can be increased further...

Regarding your setup... I did try a similar orientation to yours, but i noticed that the angle of the bar did not allow for enough leverage... The bar had little movement...
Did you try to see what kind of movement you would get with the shocks off? I looked at a few setups from different makes and they all seem to have the same orientation,
perpendicular to the suspension arm...

I'll see if i can get the truck together this week for testing...

Alien

Kcaz25 03.30.2011 02:26 PM

When comparing my setup to my cousins Losi 8t my bars actually have more influence. I can't remember if I've tested with the shocks off. Remember mine is attached to the lower arm. I'll have to get some better shots when I install the front as well. Long live the Maxx! Right? I love it. lol This has gotten me anxious to get my hands back on it.

I see... I actually looked back at your post with bar installed... I am not sure why you are getting this problem then... btw, how thick is your sway bar?
looks beefier than mine... I am more likely needing something with that diameter...

 Long live the MAXX in deed... I have seen recent posts on this forum that people are still investing in them... I have enjoyed this truck for so
many years and I am sure I will continue to...
