Look at this instead of the Gorillamaxx cross straps... I just bought 2 cross straps and not impressed - You can buy the same at radio shack for $4 for 5.
Thanks Arct1k, the link doesn't work though, but i did go to the hardware store and buy some thick black velcroe straps which are way stronger than the skinny Gmaxx ones.

Quote:

Also love how the body matches the radio.
Thanks for th props BL, i actually didn't notice that they matched until i had a look at the pic

Quote:

Oh, you should also buy a series harness incase some douchebag nitro guy comes walkin up, with his t-maxx pro .15!
That'd show him, when my tires get ripped off the rims...

Quote:

Love the new toys. I have a DX3R coming as well, and I am thinking about getting one of the 0610i Duo chargers as well. Let us know how everything works out for you. From what I read about teh gear you bought I think you will be pleased. Nice vehicle as well. good job on the build.
You'll love the DX3R, it feels really solid, the sr3100 reciever is awesome as well, i couldn't beilieve how small it was :surprised:.

Quote:

Looks great...that motor really looks huge
Thanks mate, i thnk the batteries make it look a little more in proportion with the truck now, now if i could only find out where to mount the speed controller...

Quote:

Its made by Tamiya and the colour is gunmetal

Quote:

Thanks, you love UE, i find that hard to believe , as for the batteries, i doubt they're that much bigger than those monster Zippy's you've packed onto your truck!!

Thanks for all the great comments guys!

Jordan

Maybe make a mount at the rear tower so motor wires will be short as well as batts...it will be mounted higher but its weight is negligible compared to batts and motor CG will still be almost the same..just an idea

jordan... 09.12.2008 09:42 PM

I was thinking along those lines, there might be some excess wire hanging around from the ESC because its so close to the motor, but should be able to tie that up. I was thinking of just velcroe strapping it to the monoblock  When i get it i should be able to make some plans, i dont know the actual size of the ESC yet

If all fails i might mount it ontop of the motor somehow...

JERRY2KONE 09.12.2008 10:28 PM

Weight???

So how much does that beast weigh with all of that gear onboard:whistle:? With those batts I bet that it is pushing 15lbs or better now. Thank God yu bought a huge motor to push it around:yes:. So how much does it weigh now?

Exactly how it is in the last pic, it weighs 14lbs. Or 6kg as i would say over here... :mdr:

JERRY2KONE 09.13.2008 09:21 AM

Considering.

Thats really not that bad considering how huge those batts are. I have not gotten the chance to weigh and of my trucks yet, but before we moved out of the apartment in Brussels I managed to order a nice digital scale, and they sent two by mistake. So once we get our stuff next week(hopefully) I will get to weigh them and see. Since my rigs are much like yours they will weigh pretty close to the 14lbs range. So how soon do you expect to run your toy? Nice work Jordan.

jordan... 09.13.2008 08:56 PM

I would imagine your SM's would weigh that much being all aluminium. What motor, controller and battery combos are you running in your trucks?

I am hoping to have it running by the second week of October. I should be out of this neck brace im wearing now. It would probably be better if i could see the truck when i drive it  All i need is an MGM 28025, one of the new 'big' controllers that Mike is getting in for me, and the custom length centre dogbones which Mike is also doing. I have been waiting for those dogbones for 2 months now :gasp:, but i know Mike is busy and he does quality work, so hopefully it won't be too much longer...

plettenbergs 09.13.2008 09:05 PM

you dont need to see it...use the FORCE!...my VBS lightning weighed in at 11.8 pounds today!...that is rtr with 2-speed Ultramaxxed trani,Plettenberg BIGmaxximum,Schulze 18.97 esc,2 5s Zippy-r's,body and wing included!

JERRY2KONE 09.13.2008 09:13 PM

Backups???

Hey Jordan why not order some back up dogbones dirsctly from Bill at RCALLOYS ($20 each)? Then you will always have a backup in case something goes wrong with the first setup. Just a thought.

I have one truck setup with a Novak HV 4.5, one with a Plettenberg "Big Maximum" and a Schulz 18/97 ESC, one with an MGM 180/24 waiting on a NEU 1515/1y, and one that is a shell up to now. I have some other controllers to play with, but have not made my mind up yet on how to go forward with that one. I have Brand new in boxes an MMM, a Quark 125b, and a Novak super duty, and a couple of brushed Dewalt 970 motors that I have had for quite a while. I still have so much to learn yet before play time gets really good. I have a Nomadio Sensor, and an DX3R that I don't even know how to setup or work yet, and an M11 on the way. Too many toys and not enough time to play. I have two sons that are very anxious to learn and play to, and I wanted to get setup so that we can all have some real fun, so for the last two years I have been stock piling some really good toys. Our shipments should arrive in the next week or two.

jordan... 09.13.2008 09:22 PM

Good idea, i'll drop him an e-mail, always pays to have some extras.

Can't wait to see that Bigmaxximum'd truck, is that in your Lightning? Are all your trucks full SM's? Tell me about the DX3R, i had a look through the instruction manual and didn't understand a single word  I guess i'll try to decipher that today as well.

Yea RC Alloys is pretty good about getting dogbones made up and in the mail pretty quickly, and only for $20each. That is not bad at all, plus they will do custom requests of any size.

I have one UE Lightning truck tricked out with RCM hybrid bulks and lightning hardened gear diffs that I plan on using the big Maximum in, one full RCM truck with GA titanium bulks and skids that I am thinking of trying the twin Dewalt 970's & Novak super duty in that one. The other two are a mix of Integy, RCM, Dynamite, and whatever else I could conjor up in order to build some sturdy projects for good prices. I also picked up 4 or 5 UE mono blocks with some RC Alloy shafts to give each one of them a little extra length for stability. So far I am using the 2-speed aluminum tranny with metal gearing installed. The kids and I will have some fun trying to figure everything out. THe DX3R seems to be a good piece of technology from what I have read and what has been shared on here about it, but I have not used mine yet either.

jordan... 09.16.2008 07:39 AM

Thanks for the RC alloys tip Jerry. Should have a spare set of centre drives on its way to me by the end of the week :yipi:

No problem Jordan that is why we are all here. We help each other out whenever we can and manage to learn a few things along the way. Plus we always like to assist other RCM brothers get their newest project off the ground and runing. Have a good week Jordan.

TDC57 09.17.2008 02:30 AM

Hay Jordan.. I've been out of it for a while so I deeply apologize for not saying this sooner..

I'm sooo sorry to hear about your terrible misfortune, I raced 914 last year and gave it up before I hurt myself.. I hope / Nay wish you a nothing short of a painless and quick recovery..

As for your build that I and everyone else has been watching this ongoing masterpiece of perfection in progress (for ever) LOL.LOL.. (sorry) when are you going to run it and brake it (?).. I repeat when is “D” day sir ??. lets see some video of this BAD boy in action. Lets see it dirty and lets see dad’s face when it gets it’s first major scratch and (for what it's worth) I cant wait to read about it’s first major crash.. Not that I wish any of that on you!.. absolulty not.. but I remember mine so cleary and sir I will fill your pain all the way.. LOL.LOL..

Have a great one Jordan and the best to you and your family..

Shaun.

jordan... 09.17.2008 04:12 AM

HEY SHAUN!! I had noticed your absence from the forums, just assumed you were out enjoying your trucks  Thanks for the best wishes, my recovery is coming along really well and hopefully i can be out of this neck brace a week earlier than expected:yipi:

As for D-Day, i have EVERYTHING i need, except a speed controller. I have some custom length dogbones on the way, hopefully here by next week. As you can tell from earlier posts the battery, charger, radio etc. situation has been sorted out. Now all im waiting on is Mike to get me one of the new MGM controllers. But it will be at least 3 weeks till i can drive it, because at the moment i cant really look down, just straight ahead, which would be pretty dangerous for the people around me if im driving .

JERRY2KONE 09.17.2008 06:57 AM

Camera.

Hey Jordan. This would be a great time for you to break one of those new in car video cameras in. That way you can look directly into the screen and see everthing and everywhere your vehicle goes. You can get a really nice camera and long distance reciever for around $200. That way you never have to leave the couch since you are impersonating a potato at the moment. HA :rofl:HA  HA:rofl: HA HA HAHA:lol:

HAHAHA, RC reaching new heights of laziness thanks to Mr. Jerry
Oh, and i'm not only limited to potato's, i can do avocados, lettuce, carrots... the list goes on really

JERRY2KONE 09.17.2008 08:02 AM

Good Laughs.

Even my wife cracked up at that one. She thought I was being cruel until she read your response. Good to see that your sense of humor is still in tact Jordan. Time flies when your having fun. By the time you get back to bashing I should have my R/C stuff in hand again.:yipi::intello:

Updates!!!!!

Hi everyone,

Well now i'm only one step away from this thing running. I just recieved my driveshafts from RC Alloys today, and boy are these BEEFY. They fit perfectly after a little dremeling. The pins were to long for the centre diff mount so they were hitting the mount instead of going into the cup, so i just cut them a little shorter and everything was sweet. Here are some pics:

RC Alloys bones compared to Gorillamaxx extended rear driveshaft

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01258.jpg

Driveshafts installed:

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01259.jpg

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01263.jpg

Tried to get a pic of the clearance between the motor and driveshaft, sorry for the bad quality

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01268.jpg

Also got the reciever mounted and the antenna mount done, if anyone's wondering it is a K Factory antenna mount

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01270.jpg

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC01271.jpg

Well thats about it for now, as Mike put it, "its a waiting game now" concerning the MGM. I can't wait to have this running and get some vids up!

Jordan

P.S you can stop asking me for vids now, ask Mike or MGM

TruckBasher 09.26.2008 06:55 AM

Like the movie..... "..if looks can kill" (or something like that)

Well like you Im also waiting for my MGM.....

btw what antenna holder is that, seems sturdy...

WOW..:gasp: it’s finally starting to look complete and dam it does look good!..

Hay Jordan I just got back some controllers from MGM (took 4 months) do you want me send you out one of my spare’s  (?) Not for keeps, but you can have / use it until your MGM comes in.. :intello:

Just PM your address and I’ll shoot it out to you this weekend. The largest compactly I have is MGM compro 160 amp, 24 cell brushless (runs great on 8s) :na:

Either way no worries Sir..

Have a great weekend “J”..

Shaun.

P.S.
Love the D-Bones..

P.S.S.
Truckbasher!, I saw your stuff at MetalMan’s house last weekend (LOOKEN GOOD!!) you should be happy!..

jordan... 09.27.2008 01:54 AM

Wow, i dont know what to say Shaun, i dont know of anyone else who would be willing to ship a $300+ ESC to another forum member for a temporary 'loan'. Hats off to you sir, that is the nicest gesture i've seen on any forum anywhere.

I'd have to say no though, after you had to wait 4 months to get it back i would be terrified to throw it in my truck just incase i exploded it or something :eyes: Mike should have my MGM in sometime next week anyway, so i shouldnt have to wait much longer. Plus, im still in this neck brace  So it will be at least a week or two before i can drive anything.

Thanks again mate :yipi:
jordan

TDC57 10.06.2008 02:10 AM

Anytime, anyplace, anything for you sir..

Sooooo how is the build coming along?? did you get your controller yet ?? :yipi:

How is your neck & back doing.. :oh:

Enquiring minds want to know.. :intello:

Have a great week Jordan.. keep us posted..

jordan... 10.06.2008 02:47 AM

Thanks again Shaun, I have been in contact with Mike every couple of days about the controller, should definately be in this week. I think he's probably getting sick of my e-mails asking if its come in yet

As for the build, there isn't anything needed anymore except for the ESC. But that didn't stop me getting some *bling* for it :intello: I have upgraded the plastic links on the upper rear RacerX arms to aluminium links from an OFNA Dominator. This morning i also recieved some brand new UE aluminium wheels with brand new Proline Mashers installed, only paid $61 as well. They turned out to be cheaper than my Wabash's

I'll have some pics up in a couple of hours, got some grinding to do first!

The neck is healing really well, i'm into a soft collar neck brace and it should be off in the next couple of weeks. Now i've got titanium in my neck, it should be stronger than ever  (Thanks for asking Shaun, means alot)

ill have some pics up soon
jordan

TDC57 10.06.2008 03:09 AM

Cool.. looking forward to seeing the updates Sir..

I'm also glad to her your getting better.. Way cool..:party:

Have a great painless week.:intello:

JERRY2KONE 10.06.2008 04:24 AM

Great To Hear The News.

Hey there Jordan great to hear that you are doing well and still moving forward with the project. It is looking nice. So the RC Alloy shafts came in quickly for you. Reading your last post I was thinking how lucky you are. Healing nicely and if you ever need any titanium for your projects you can aloways borrow some from yourself:rofl::lol: Just poking fun at ya. Glad to hear that you are doing better.

jordan... 10.06.2008 05:21 AM

Update

Hey Jerry, haven't seen you for a little while, hows Korea treating you?

Well, as said before, im still waiting on the ESC, which is the only part i need to get this running, but Mike says any day now, so fingers crossed. Even though i have all the parts i couldn't help getting some bling for the truck when the opportunity arose :intello: I have replaced the plastic links on the rear upper racerX arms with aluminium links from an OFNA Dominator. I also scored some new UE wheels with tyres off of ebay for cheaper than my 40 series wheels/tyres cost me  Anyway, here are the pics!

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00016.jpg

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00026.jpg

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00027.jpg

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00043.jpg

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00031.jpg

I personally like the F-150 shell over the truggy style shell with the new rims installed.

cheers
jordan

thephilonator 10.06.2008 05:50 AM

Wow, $61 for a set of UE alum wheels, thats quite a bargain, good work Jordan.

good to hear that you're getting better.

keep us in the loop.

George16 10.06.2008 06:07 AM

Looks real good Jordan. Let me know if you need a spare set of the Ofna link. I just got a set. They're blue in color but I plan on stripping them using EZ Off oven cleaner and then tapping them once I receive the left hand tap my brother sent to me.

jordan... 10.06.2008 07:12 AM

Thanks guys and Lito, i reckon those links should go on your Gmaxx

I'm going to put a pair on the display SM. The gmaxx will stay as is, for now . The revo gets most of the runtime nowadays too and my son is complaining so I'm building a brushless revo for myself.

lutach 10.06.2008 07:51 AM

Jordan,

That one good looking truck my friend. Those drive shafts looks awesome. Keep them away from lincpimp though, he might use them to do strange things . I love the center motor concept and most of you know that. I hope to see a video soon of your beast running.

TDC57 10.12.2008 02:13 AM

So did you get your MGM ??

I think it looks better with no body on it (just outstanding craftsmanship ) but if you must cover it, I would defiantly use the truck body.. My two cents sir..

So how's your neck healing ?? are you all back to 100% again :yipi:

Thanks the for the pics dude your build is just so bitchen to look at.. I cant wait to read about it after it's first major beating.. LOL that should make for fun reading..:lol:

Have a great one Sir..

Shaun.

jordan... 10.12.2008 02:32 AM

Not yet, i e-mailed Mike on Friday, and he's still saying any day now...

Definately has to be the truck body with the UE rims, but im looking at it now with the truggy body and Wabash's and i can't decide which is better. I guess its good to be able to change the whole look of the truck, keeps me from getting bored.

Neck's not 100% yet, i'll find out at the end of November when i have a final checkup, have to wait until 3 months after the operation to see how everythings healed up. Still just bumming around 'recovering'

I'm thinking about getting a HPI Baja wing to put on the back just for fun, got some credit at amain i might as well burn :intello:

thanks again Shaun

BL_RV0 10.15.2008 08:57 AM

Wow. It looks stunning. I think wabash rims with the truck body look the best.
