Here is an updated shot of the conversion. Switched to the Baja 5B wing; the mounting holes are a prefect fit for the Savage body mounts.
Also are the ProLine Bowtie front/rear Baja 5B tires and wheels. Currently am using ProLine 23mm hex adapters wrapped with metal tape until snug in the wheels. If you go this route (24mm hex adapters from HPI are still backordered) you need some M5 lock nuts (HPI #Z682 lock nuts the 14mm hexes work great; I used some flanged M5 lock nuts I had laying around from Traxxas) to secure the adapter onto the axle. 16.4oz with Zippy Flightmax 5S 30c 5800MaH (http://hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store...idProduct=9934). The 5800MaH 30C 6S (http://hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store...idProduct=9935) and are only about 62g (2.19oz).

These are 5B tires so only 170mm; slightly bigger than Big Joes.
The 5T tires are like 190mm. Things to keep in mind is that you, maybe same on Flux but don't know, you have to remove the TVP in order to exchange pinions or motors and its a hassle dealing with the slipper clutch. Quote:

I have... although one of the rears came without the beadlock faceplate so gotta contact ProLine about that snafu.
Nonetheless, ran well. Running 47/19 on 2200kV and 5S 30C 5800 MaH batts. Everything does run very cool from my so far limited testing. It does have a lot of body roll even with the anti-roll bars installed which makes it far different than my RC8Te. My have to experiment with some thicker shock oil or maybe going up to the heaviest springs. Thats a great use of the x-plate. Still working on the body for it... completely screwed up the one baja 5b body, so gotta get another. Thankfully they are cheap (at least compared to the 5T!!) to cutup. Then the lights. Quote:

do you need to go up to a 47 spur or will a 17 or 16 pinion fit the stock 44t spur? i'm sure theres limited adjustment but want to save the cost of the spur if i can. thanks

I used the 47 because I converted from an XSS/XL nitro Savage. Whatever pinions fit on the Flux with the standard Flux 44 spur will work. The mounting for the flux motor, gearbox, etc. is exactly the same as on the Flux.

well i never tried anything smaller than the stock 20t pinion, but i want to get this kit and i know they recommend gearing down, so not sure if i need to order a spur or not. i guess i need to buy the pinion and try it if no one here has already.

Well stock Flux has like a 1.18 rollout and equates to ~45 to ~55mph depending on 5S or 6S.
If you don't switch tires, then you can just run normal gearing. If you are switching to Baja 5B (~6.68") or the bigger 5T tires (7.5") then you'll need to gear down. Looks like a 44/18 is gives about the same rollout as the standard flux for the 5B tires. You'd need to drop to about a 44/16 for the 5T tires. This is all just a starting point. |
thanks! don't think i was going to go 5t tires, but with the weight of the vehicle i think i'll start at a 16t pinion and go from there. thanks for your help
