Long ass motor for sure. :intello: http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/4...cn1439x.th.jpg http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/2...cn1440z.th.jpg http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/4...cn1436l.th.jpg Don't want to think what'll happen if the lipos get hit. Probably gonna order a FLM tower, I think it's a bit thinner and won't bend and puncture anything. |
impressive! big motor... at least i know it will fit in my chassis...i thought you were running the db-17 xxl chassis....
If i were you i wouldnt bother with FLM towers... everyone is saying bad things about bending them!!! And when they bend, they dont bend back.... I would stick with stock and modify them if necessary to get the lipos to fit... Looking good though! Tell me how the motor performs in the xl... and please get a vid if possible. What gearing are you running? considering the power of the motor i was going to run 21t pinion and 44 spur with 39t high speed idler (locked second gear). I have a 25t pinion for road use too :-) |
Hey guys i think the castle 2200KV setup for a truggy is power enough for racing as long as it is setup properly in terms of gearing and voltages. However if you want to bash and have a good time and be capable of those really high speeds and not destroying motors or speed controllers than a bigger motor is the way to go. I run a NEU 1521 1Y (Castle motor not available at the time) in my MBX6T and a 1527 1Y in a G3R and temps and speeds are impressive to say the least. So are my run times. In my G3R i will get bored of doing the same circuit in the back yard before my LVC goes off. But if i want to do a speed run and try for 100mph plus i gear up and volts up and away i go. No issues except keeping it on the ground. The most valuable tools you can have in terms of electric setup are your temp gun and a data logger.
But remerber at the end of the day this is still a HOBBY and is supposed to be FUN. So have FUN:party::party: |
My 1520 has another small brother 1515 1Y since yesterday ;)
http://img10.hostingpics.net/pics/23...stleFamily.jpg You can see the ORION vortex 8 2050kV (dead) between the 2 monsters :D As long but not as heavy  Castle family is growning ! Still waiting RC monster conversion kit for my MBX5T... It smells like customs :oops: |
The "bad boy" mounted in the chassis  :
http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/2876/derrire.jpg http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/3342/carrodevant.jpg Gearing 15/46, 6S 4000mAh (a little heavy), runtimes under track conditions are 19-20min, although the gearing is a little too much to race ! Temps : when ambient is 55-60, motor reaches 100-105 °F after the run :yipi: I do not know the weight of my truggy, but I am pretty sure that it reaches 11 lbs (a little heavy compared to a nitro MBX5T). |

Thanks for the update and info man...

Made some changes with my motor mount and suspension setup... I'm using 15/52 gearing now with an Ofna 6 Spider CD... I'll be ordering a pair of 16 tooth pinions from Mike
so that i can run in the forties.... A few pics of the layout... http://lh3.ggpht.com/_4vPm5E8J5HA/S_...0/DSC_4611.jpg UE Widetrac Control Arms, FLM Bulks, UE Super Shocks and UE Knucklehead shock towers http://lh5.ggpht.com/_4vPm5E8J5HA/S_...0/DSC_4599.jpg My new homemade CD/Motor mount with a OFNA Spider center diff and CC 1520 attached http://lh6.ggpht.com/_4vPm5E8J5HA/S_...0/DSC_4608.jpg http://lh4.ggpht.com/_4vPm5E8J5HA/S_...0/DSC_4663.jpg Upper plate finished and mount mounted http://lh6.ggpht.com/_4vPm5E8J5HA/S_...0/DSC_4666.jpg Hmmm... I had a funky little moment when I made test of the rebuild... saw a puff of smoke coming from the truck while it was sitting on the ground... The body was off luckily, it allowed me to unplug the Batts immediately... i saw that one of the servo extension wires had lost it's insulation on the negative wire... i was a little worried since that extension was connected directly to the receiver... on opening the receiver box i saw that only the extension was affected... I removed the extension from the receiver and made a check... the receiver started up right away and all functions checked out. not sure why the wire shorted out like that tough... Well... i have no backup servo extensions, so I'll be running the 125B without its double fan 'cooling'... On plus side, this will allow me to mount the ESC a little lower :mdr:... http://lh5.ggpht.com/_4vPm5E8J5HA/S_...2/DSC_4630.jpg http://lh4.ggpht.com/_4vPm5E8J5HA/S_...2/DSC_4640.jpg I'll make some tests as soon as possible and post my findings... Not sure what kind of temps I'll be getting on the esc now. Alien |
that is a beautiful home made cd motor mount!!! You have a very nice truggy there!!!
You can see no expense has been spared! Do you think you would like to make me one of those cd mounts :) |
Thanks man... some expense was spared with homemade parts ... i'm not sure if I'll ever want to know how much money went into this build over the years...
hmmm... regarding the mount... it was a one off thing (materials here are scarce and I have to import almost everything i need)... So I'm not sure how feasible it would be to make a small run on this design... besides, I wouldn't want to disrespect the site owner by peddling my stuff here... Thanks again for the compliments dude. Alien |
Update for me :
http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/6633/1746.jpg 14/46 ===> 17/46 :lol::lol: The same deal for the motor, sames temps as 14/46 and insaaaaaaane top speed :yipi: Moreover wheelies are easier as in 14/46 (didn't touch the 70% punch control !). But a bad thing happened... I did one time a full throttle from 0 speed, and my truggy responded by a DOUBLE standing backflip !! "OMG, WTF this 1520 is doing to my truggy :D :D !!!" ====> my out-shaft of center diff melted in the spur, blocked the diff... mugen parts are precise engineered, and the shaft enter tiely in the spur :( metal vs metal = heat, i didn't have this problem with the 14/46, but in 17/46 diff works maybe a lot more... I tried to enlarge a little the spur hole, but mugen parts are very heavy too ^^ Will see tomorrow if it works better. anyway, this motor can handle bigger pinions and keep exactly the same temps, impressive :intello: |
Powerrr!!!... are you going to make some vids with that 17 tooth setup? can't wait to see that.

nuz i have this motor in my extended savage... considerably heavier than your truggy... i have it currently geared to 53mph (calculator says) and i get temps only as a high as 120degrees on the motor and less on the esc... temps are very low! i was considering gearing up but left it as it is and ill just run it on 9s when i have the funds
|
Good news ;) 120F is pretty cold for your savage and gearing :yipi: Today, my motor was at 110F on front and 125F on rear plate after one battery, it was sunny and ambient was 75F. I am geared for 48 mph but without a lot of ballooning :D
The video is uploading at the moment  |
