Thanks for the reply.

When I tried 2nd I was running a 72 tooth spur (biggest) with a 14 tooth pinion (smallest I could find at that time) and it was still WAY too fast/hot. Are you guys running similar gearing?

Thanks,

squeeforever 06.13.2005 05:36 PM

try a 12 tooth pinion.

Electric Dave 06.13.2005 06:44 PM

From where? I searched for pinions here and the smallest is (still) a 14...

Thanks,

14/66 or 16/72 would both be good gearing suggestions(assuming stock diffs and stock sized tires). If this is too fast, adjust your radio to tame it a bit. Also, welcome to the forums!

Hey Mike...Thanks for the reply. What gearing were you running at the Barnstormers race (season opener) and did you have the new one speed in there? Our local track is quite a bit smaller than Barnstormers and it seems that 2nd was too much. I can back the EPA down a bit (or a lot) but I thought running in 1st may be a better way...given how good your truck ran at that race I wouldn't mind duplicating your setup.

I think I was running 13/51 gearing(Strobe Slipper) on the xl2400 motor and 5s Lipo cells. I am still running this setup, actually. I have the EPA turned down so I only get about 2/3 of the available power(so I can hold it on the track!). The Strobe slipper is helpful as well. I had the prototype one speed for that race as well.

i think you can get a 12 tooth pinion from finedesignrc.com

RC-Monster Mike 06.13.2005 11:23 PM

FYI, last time I checked, Fine design's pinions were Robinson pinions that were drilled out on a drill press(not enough meat for the set secrew to get a good grab).

thanks mike. good to know that because i almost bought my pinions from there:eek:

That's an interesting topic, guys. Altough it's off topic here, I will also throw something in. As most of you might know, I also have heat issues on my 14 cell 9L, even on 14/72 gearing. And I look forward to a Lehner Basic XL.
But I would be interested in a 12 or 13t pinion nevertheless.
Interesting to know you tame stuff down with the radio.
Would love to see your Maxxes in action.

I'm speaking from personal exspirence dont buy pinions from(fdm) . I bought 3 pinions and stripped all 3 in the same night. There is not enough meat around the set screw. Also jamie at starluck has some pinion sizes that mike does'nt.

@ dafni. I think running a 16-18 cell GP2200's and another KV range motor would eliminate your problem.

supermaxx4190 06.14.2005 10:14 PM

hey macII, welcome to the forum. its a great place for brushless info. im the one that talked to you at the season opener at madness (emaxx4190) (the one hit you and broke the aluminum pillow balls). are you still running in first gear on your track? how the truck going? i think i may come down to connecticut sometime this summer and race at xtreme. i heard they got quite a few emaxxs running there and they got a cool new track setup. is this your local track? i would like to race against you again. i finally got my driving skills back up to par, i was a little rusty at madness. im killing all the revos at my track with my 10L:D everyone couldnt belive how fast it was.

Electric Dave 06.14.2005 10:30 PM

Hey 4190, nice to hear from you. Yep, still in 1st. A bit faster with a wider selection of pinions. Doing well this season, so far I'm 3 for 3 on A Main wins at my local track (mostly due to good luck as opposed to anything else. its been very close, we are all seconds away from eachother). Had to settle for 3rd at the Barn. Xtreme has developed quite an electric following, 4 heats of (6) stadium each week and we have 5 regular sick brushless E's. Glad to hear things are going well with the 10L. I'm sure I'll see you again soon.

Hmm, too bad. I was told the 9L on 14 cells should be a suitable setup for my application.
