The end plates are pressed in. If you place the motor vertically on a hard surface (shaft down) and tap on the end (where the wires are), the cap on the wires-end should pop off. Just be aware when you put it back together that the end cap won't ever sit as snug as it did when new, so the RCM heatsink/clamp will almost be required.

Well at this point my option is buying another motor unless I can see if it was defective.

OK...I took the back out and looked at the rotor. It has a black "marker" type Stripe on it. Real strong magnet...:gasp:

The winds, I cannot see any marks on it. Is there a way to get the winds out or are they part of the case?

Thanks for the help.

John

Yeah, the magnet is pretty strong. I guess I should have warned you about that. Oops.

The winds should all be the same coppery color with no darker areas (where it might have gotten really hot).

The winds are bonded to the case so no taking them out.

Cannot get the front plate off...but the inside smells like burning electrical.

Time to order a new one...

With the back plate off, you can slide the rotor out - just be careful not to scrape the windings on the way out. Then you should be able to get a good look at the windings.

I guess my question would be...could it have been defective? I will buy a new one if it was my fault...chalk it up for experience...but I would hate to do it and find out that it was defective.

I have a 9L that spins real smooth. This one from the beginning had a little bit of resistance. I thought it was because it was a "bigger" motor that the tolerances may be tighter.

Well I got pretty far on this finally....here is the setup now:

Feigao 10xl Brushless Motor

MGM 160A ESC

5 Cell LiPo

Got her together...now just need a nice day to run it...

Yes it is the new HPI Grave Robber...Perfect body for this project...

I went with a Hologram Paint with a Gloss Black base and Chrome where ever I could get it.

She will look sweet "burying" all those nitros...

t-maxxracer32 12.23.2007 05:29 PM

Well, It has been a long trip but I finally got to run her.

Here are some naked pics and the inaugural run...

LiPo isn't fully charged due to several "bench" tests.

Ambient Temp out is 33 degrees

Ran it for about 10 mins.

ESC = 60*
Motor = 114*

Now on to the ESC Programming.

I have an MGM 16018

Here are my settings...
Mode: Car "One Way"
Brake: Light 1
Acceleration: .65 sec (should this be changed...seems to lag at launch)
Timing: Automatic
Behavior when volts go down: Slow Reduce RPM
Battery Type: LiPo 5 cell
Range of Neutral: 12% (?)
Automatic Correction of Neutral: NO (?)
Freewheel: YES
Automatic Brake in Neutral: NO

It seems that it lags on launch...What do I need to do? I also need to set 2 speed.

I want to thank Mike...he has been patient with my questions.

Thanks
John

That was the first run with the 9L...

I fixed the links...go check them out. They are with the 10XL

Lower the acceleration, .65 is way too long.
