So, to make this work for stock gearbox of 3906 E-Maxx, these parts are needed?
- 3992 input shaft - 5351 slipper plate - 5352X slipper rebuild kit - 3969 output shaft - 3984X output gear - 3996X steel idler And all modifications needed is to shorten the input shaft or drill a hole to the rear cover? |
there is no need for the output shaft or gear, stock e-maxx works. I did this mod myself and shortened the shaft, but I would recomend drilling a hole instead. You can use a 32p spur from the new maxx or modify a MGT spur (mod1) by drilling out three peg holes to match the revo slipper, I used a 13/64 drill bit, and u need washers on the screws that hold the gear on. I also needed to team out the center hole to accept a 5x10 bearing, 9 was to small and the 10 just didn't want to go in. I must say that the mod1 is the way to go, it handles the gl power much better than 32p. Good luck!

Xcntrk- that is somewhat confusing isnt it? lol. I believe though that they are MOD1 gears- something slightly chunky about the teeth that leads me to believe they are not 32p.

Alright, so lets explore gear-cover options for this modification.
I’m presently using an un-modified revo input shaft and the gear sticks out excessively from the motor plate. Soon I’ll be using a modified shaft to close that distance, but still the Revo slipper sticks out pretty far likely rendering the stock gear cover unusable. The other day my maxx spun to a sliding stop in some loose (and fine) rock/sand. When I tried to apply throttle it clearly binded and went nowhere. Fortunately I immediately stopped trying to give it gas, when I got to the rig the ESC was 190F and the drivetrain was completely locked. Upon further inspection, a tiny pebble had lodged in my MGT spur and forced to imbed in the plastic teeth by the steel pinion. I had to use a knife and actually cut it out. The bottom line is no gear cover (and a skeleton chassis w/lots of holes) is clearly leaving this gear too exposed for this to occur. Can you imagine at WOT and full amperage? It would immediately toast your ESC! What's the REVO use for gear cover and maybe it can be modified to fit? |
you can use a gear cover you just need to install spacers to move the gear cover out a bitt so it clears the spur gear. I did this but there is still a half inch gap. what you can they do is cover that gap with electrical tape.

Here a FYI for anyone thinking about using the 3905 shaft in the G1 transmission. It needed some mods done to the gear and the shaft is 37mm longer then the revo shaft. It does sit the spur right next to the motor mounts. Here's a link to a post with some details the G1 3905 mod is at the end of the thread.

So to bring this back up
I have a complete revo slipper kit, I just need the new emaxx 3905 input shaft, and a steel idler? That makes a bullet proof emaxx trans? Is the RCM one better then the traxxas one? Id rather order everything from tower hobbies, but if the RCM one is better, might as well just do it right the first time |

Only RCM and UE sell steel idlers for the emaxx 3906 tranny; the traxxas ones are a different size for the 3905 tranny = no good.
