Phew! I can finally take a deep breath- I bin holding my breath since you first posted that it was in Australia! I hope you have good luck with it- the posts about failures are dis-turb-ing!

Great news. Was this in the Savage? What motor and battery were you using?

tc3_racer_001 05.13.2008 05:41 PM

hey icu, when did you order? any confirmation as of yet or are we in the 2nd batch? (wouldnt mind anyway...)
ryan

DRIFT_BUGGY 05.13.2008 05:43 PM

I thought the 2nd batch has been sent & the 2nd batch comes with 6.5mm bullets. Did yours come with bullets MTBikerTim?

I think we are confused here -- The second BUILD of MMM has not yet happened. There have been several batches built, but all of those are wired controllers.

The second build will take place a little later this month, we are still waiting on a couple of parts. The second build will have the SMT 6.5mm connectors.

Right-o, thanks Patrick. I ordered bullets anyway, so the bullets don't worry me

With the 6.5mm SMT connectors, will you be able to use the pick & place machine on those to reduce manual soldering time? I can imagine that it's probably a strange part to try and have placed, especially if you have tight tolerances on the plated through holes.

I'm just curious...the engineer in me wants to know.

Good question. :)

They will be placed by hand, after pick and place, but before reflow. :)

DRIFT_BUGGY 05.13.2008 06:16 PM

Well mine is now @ Post Office in AUSTRALIA at 1:04 AM. So should more than likely be in my hands today

That makes sense. Very little manual labor to place them and the reflow have to be done anyhow. I'd imagine it'll make it easier to test each of them after build too. Heck, you could easily design/build a setup to plug them in and have dedicated ATE run the test.

When you go to the SMT connectors, will the ESC's include male pigtails to plug into them?

Yep,

We are including 5" pigtails for all the connections.

Hi Ryan. I ordered Sat I think. I agree it is hard to decide between wishing for a Monster now or later ie soon or reliable!

I'm running an 11xl with a Neuenergy 6s 4900mah 20c lipo. So far my highest peak recorded by the eagle tree was 89amps but I haven't taken it up to full throttle yet.

jacobsjo87 05.13.2008 06:45 PM

So... just to clarify the second batch is going to have the plugs on the esc. The wires won't be soldered directly to the board. Thanks

MTBikerTim 05.13.2008 07:47 PM

Mine Died. Second run just after an almost full throttle blip. Fan twitches when the esc is switched on and off and no connection with the castle link. Laptop says the castle link is connected fine but the Device connection status stays red . I'll email castle today.

e-mike 05.13.2008 08:01 PM

Don't be scared, might just be a few faulty Switching BEC FETs that came from the factory and your might work without an issue.

why is it that the first batch have the motor leads soldered directly to the ESC and the 2nd batch will have the connectors?

Just run it and see what happens. Castle will replace it if it dies I am sure. It does suck though having to send it back to the states and to wait..... again.

not to sound harsh....but if you are afraid to use the MMM it will be a cool looking paper weight, if it does fail it will be due to the existing components, run it like you would normally and if something negative does happen call Castle and they will send you a new one

e-mike 05.13.2008 08:52 PM

tanks for the info:yes:if any problem come out ...cc gonna have a e-mail:mdr:

DRIFT_BUGGY 05.13.2008 10:22 PM

Well mine just arrived, see how long it runs for but problem is that I don't have my motor mount yet

Unlucky, any work from CC.
Do we take it to Australia Post to get it sent back or do we have to organise something with USPS?

Australia Post I would say. Unless castle is going to pay for the return shipping but I'm not really worried.

kulangflow 05.13.2008 11:19 PM

It should hopefully make you feel better that both of my MMMs are working great on 5s lipo and 6s a123 packs.

(One is being shipped to SuicideNeil tomorrow, but we decided to test it out here first to make sure it's one of the good ones. It is. :-))

jhautz 05.14.2008 12:51 AM

It sure does seem that if they are going to die, they do it quickly. Almost every post I have read about a MMM dying has been during the first pack. Even during the first few minutes of use.

So at this point it seems if yours is working it should stay working.... we hope.

Sucks. Sucks sucks sucks sucks. And living in a country where infrastructure is low on the governments agenda it's a 5h1tfight to get it back there and back again. Sorry to hear it MBTim.

Our infrastructure ain't that bad, in some places it is just because they are so remote. Thankfully I live in the infrastructure capital of Australia and my parcels move rather quickly. I just wish I had brought my esc into work so I could have sent it off already.

titan 05.14.2008 04:34 AM

There is something in my Hands from CC :D I Love It :D

Titan

PS Without Express Shipping ^^

joeling 05.14.2008 04:41 AM

Oh dear I'm getting worried now. Mine should be here today but flight delays means that I will only get to argue with customs tomorrow. I'll put it in my buggy first & do some torture test & see whether I have send it back. Backup plan should be shipping soon from Mike's HQ soon I hope.

Joe Ling

Yeah, thanks Mike

joeling 05.15.2008 03:49 AM

I just need to vent a little as I am pretty upset at the moment. I received a package from CC today but it was for some bullet plugs I ordered some time after I made the pre order for the Monster. I chose EMI shipment for both orders but somehow the bullets were shipped using the correct method & the esc is coming to me using air mail. It could take a month or more for the item to arrive & sometimes they don't arrive at all ! That's why all my purchases online use EMI or equivalent to avoid any disappointments.

Looks like I'll be waiting a few more weeks. Gonna be back in Perth last week of the month for a few days for family reunion & probably by the time I return the thing is still stuck somewhere in limbo with no means to track it. Feel like doing something like this now :slap:

In addition, still no news on the unit i ordered from Mike too

Ok end of rant. Sorry about that.

Regards,
Joe Ling

JERRY2KONE 05.15.2008 04:43 AM

Suggestion.

We all feel your pain man. There was a thread a few days ago on here from one of you guys down under trying to coordinate a group order for the MMM to ease the shipping issues. Since there seems to be quite a few of you in that area I would think that you guys could ban together maybe meeting up once a month or so, and place group orders through a business address and hopefully easing the whole customs and some shipping cost issues. It sounds like you guys have some real problems with your postal system getting items from outside of Ausiland. Sorry to hear of all the problems. Good luck with that.

joeling 05.15.2008 06:41 AM

I think the Aussies are on the ball as far as shipping & customs are concerned. It's poor me in Malaysia that's staring at the post box

Regards,
Joe Ling

DRIFT_BUGGY 05.15.2008 06:58 AM

Post parcels usually take around 7 - 14 week days to get to Australia which isn't to bad

JERRY2KONE 05.15.2008 07:19 AM

Sorry About That.

I was confused about where you were writing from. Even so you cannot be the only R/C guy in malaysia. Too bad there is not some international postal system that charged everyone the same (Reasonable Rate) no matter where you are located.

joeling 05.30.2008 03:43 AM

Well, I'm a little late to the party but I finally received my Monster today. Had to get my office assistant to haggle with customs before I could get the package. Plugged it into the PC & did some inital programming. Fan is spinning, amber light on the Monster is on & the Castle link green light flashing. This is a good start yes ? Gonna test it this weekend of there is no rain.

Thank u Castle & bossman Patrick.

Regards,
Joe Ling

PS : Is there anyway to coax CC into selling me MM plastic bottoms ? Managed to kill 2 of them & Christy at Castle says not selling
