I removed the mechanical brakes and seem to like it better cleaner and easier this is the mbx6t

lucias 05.18.2010 06:02 PM

you like it better than the XT8?

removed the mechanical brakes and cleaned up wires a bit

Chadworkz 05.19.2010 10:25 AM

Once they get used to it, I think most people like ESC/Motor brakes much better than the old mechanical brakes.

swiftneed 05.19.2010 07:15 PM

well I just took off the mechanical brakes from the mugen lets see if I have as much fun bashing the xt8 is 2200kv on 6s so its a basher I like the control I have in the mugen I guess the motor is easier 1800kv

The comparison sticker vs paint lol Mbx6T and XT8:lol:

jhautz 05.23.2010 06:21 PM

Looks good. Dont get to hung up on the paint for the stock shell. Its pretty much lasts about 2 race days before it falls apart anyway. Thin and light for racing, but not very durable in my experience.

jhautz 05.23.2010 06:22 PM

Oh... yea. Raced my XT8 with the RCM chassis conversion today at my local club race. 2 words... TQ & WIN.:mdr:

swiftneed 05.23.2010 06:32 PM

:rofl:Way to go Brush this LOL

swiftneed 05.23.2010 06:36 PM

Let me see if I have this right... A guy wanted to race his flux against your XT8. You told him sure just after lunch and he was shocked somehow by this? Or another take I see is that perhaps you did race him at lunch and he was shocked at the results. How am I doing?

Chadworkz 05.24.2010 01:11 AM

Swift, I think you did a great job, so don't get down on yourself.

I will give you a hint that a lot of people don't know, but most of the better painters do...use 1/16", 3/32", and 1/8" automotive pinstripe to mask off your lines & graphics! The edges are razor sharp, and it can be flexed/bent around corners as tight as you want the radius to go! Since the edges are so sharp, there is ZERO bleed-through, and your lines will be perfectly smooth & clean! Once you have your lines laid down with the pinstripe, you can use regular masking tape or painters tape for the rest.

swiftneed 05.24.2010 04:44 PM

yea I won his truck flipped twice and wasnt stable in the straight hahahahaha So he had to by me lunch OK I think I might try that idea with the automotive pinstripes

Good Job, Jeff. I had the exact same result at my track yesterday with my XT8. I won 1/8 buggy too(getting the bugs worked out of my 808 now). :)

Thanks Mike!! Glad to hear Xray is treating you well.

I didnt race buggy. Raced 4wd SC as my 2nd class. I had TQ in that class too. But finished 2nd in the main. Made some dumb mistakes and got myself into trouble and couldnt make it up. But considering I was at a bachelor party the night before and I was hung way over I guess I cant complain. I was pretty happy. Best driving Ive done in a while.

RC-Monster Mike 05.25.2010 12:11 AM

I actually TQ'd buggy in real life, but my personal transponder missed a few laps during qualifying, so I started in 7th place(I won both heats fairly easily, but just started where the numbers put me). It was only a club race, so no point in squabbling over qualifying position anyways.
I LOVE the truggy - every bit as good as my RC8T. I think it can get a little better with tuning, but it rocks right now. It can get a bit unstable if I make a mistake, but is super responsive and quick(drives like a buggy). I was very consistent with my truggy - my fastest lap was 30.1 seconds and my slowest lap was 31.6 seconds during qualifying. I could probably account for the 1.5 second difference, too(a bobble in the middle section?). I was pretty happy with this result for the 2nd time I ever raced the truck.
:)
I like the 808 buggy so far but I don't feel like it is quite dialed yet(RC8 is completely dialed) - it is getting pretty close now, though. The XRay is very tunable, so I am confident I will get it where it needs to be(right now, my RC8 is more dialed). I was quite consisten with the buggy, but the transponder issue makes it more difficult to determine exactly how consistent I was, though it was fairly easy to determine the real results(low 30 second laps throughout with a 65 and a 91 second lap in the middle somewhere).
My first run with the 808 it pushed like a school bus on initial turn-in and was very tippy/unstable. I installed the 41t ring gear, removed the front sway bar and added RC8 hexes(more offset for about 2mm extra width). Now it turns in like mad and is super responsive (twitchy even) and a little more stable. I think I will put the sway bar back on and see how it goes. I am not quite right on the shocks yet, either I don't think but it is close enough now that i can make small adjustments one at a time to get it dialed in. It is still narrower than "legal" specs allow, so I may make a wider hex to get as much width as possible for the added stability.

The hangover probably had you relaxed, jeff. Someties you gotta take your mind off the race to race better. :)

Chadworkz 05.25.2010 02:34 AM

So Mike, not only do you have the absolute best ideas & designs, and develop & build the very finest parts, you are also a TQ/WIN racer as well...in multiple classes? Are you using your machining equipment and experience to make parts and turn yourself into a super-human?

Kcaz25 05.25.2010 10:01 AM

Mike's not human. Does his profile picture not make it clear enough?

Chadworkz 05.25.2010 11:28 AM

Haha, he's a MONSTER!

Kcaz25 05.25.2010 03:21 PM

HAHA:lol:

feistyacorn 06.01.2010 10:45 AM

I raced my xt8 for the first time this past weekend. This was also my first time racing outdoors on dirt. I learned a lot of things and the most important thing is to bring lots and lots and lots of sunscreen! The truck worked well, but I was unable to complete my race. I forgot to locktite the set screw on my pinion and couldn’t figure it out on time. Yah, I know…. I didn’t break anything major on the truck, but my power supply took a dump. It made a hissing noise, snap, crackle, pop, and a little puff of smoke! I just about fell out of my chair! I was thinking about getting a Bulldog 30 or 45 amp power supply as a replacement. Does anyone have a suggestion? I also need some new rear shock boots, mine ripped in half. The XRAY ones are way too short. What are people using?
The slipperential and chassis conversion worked great! Thanks for making awesome products Mike!

Chadworkz 06.01.2010 07:27 PM

A lot of people are using the Associated RC8T boots with good results.

Thanks for the info. Are these the right ones?

I also attached some pictures of my xt8. I not the best at painting bodies, what do you guys think? In one of the pictures you can see how I mounted the rear body mounts. The body is a J Concepts Punisher for the Mugen MBX-6T. The body is a little wide for the chassis though.

Thanks! I have a few RCM stickers that will go on. I am not the biggest fan of stickers. That's why I paint the headlights.

I can't wait to get some more track time. I think that I am going to get the 41 tooth front diff gear and AKA City Blocks for the front tires (I have a full set of AKA I Beams now). The track was dusty and dry and I had a hard time getting traction. It was in the 90s that day.

In your pics it looks like you have a shorter batt tray. Did you shorten yours or did you have Mike make a custom one? I like the idea. I usually run my batt more towards the front anyways.

phatmonk 10.21.2010 06:26 PM

I have a Xray XT8 non 09 version. What xtra parts do I need to make it work with the RCM conversion.

jhautz 10.21.2010 11:41 PM

The only parts you need are the center CVD shafts for the 09 version and the shorter steering servo link tunbuckle. With those parts it should bolt right up to the older model.

phatmonk 10.23.2010 08:54 AM

Thanks. So do I need the front and rear center CVDs.And will I only need the shafts? Are the U joints universal from the older version XT8?

jhautz 10.23.2010 10:02 AM

You need both front and rear center cvd shafts. The joints are not the same for the old and the new xt8 but they are interchangeable. So the joints you have will work with just replacing the shafts.

Does anyone know if the http://rc-monster.org/proddetail.php?prod=HP25C40006S will fit the battery tray on the XT8e conversion?

The batt tray is 48mm x 168mm and that lipo is 135.5mm x 39.2mm x 53.5mm.

http://media.hyperion.hk/dn/g3lipo/G3-Specs-EN.pdf

Havoc 11.09.2010 05:06 PM

Thanks for the info, that PDF will come in handy.

I am currently running the RX8 w/2250 truggy motor on hyperion 4S 5000mah 25C and 35C batteries. Can't finish a 15 minute main right now. My last attempt ended at the 14 minute mark due to low voltage. My lipo was a little puffy, but went back down to normal after it cooled. 5 to 10 minute runs usually end in very acceptable temps across the board.

I am debating on either a 6S 4000mah setup with a 1350kv or 1580kv motor or a continue the current setup but with a 6900 mah 4S battery. The puffy lipo has me thinking about dropping the 4S altogether, I mean, this truggy is pretty heavy to begin with.

Also thinking of switching back to an MMM if I go 6S. Just had an RX8 go bad in my buggy with nowhere near the demands this truggy requires. 6S may be pushing it.

feistyacorn 11.09.2010 05:15 PM

I have the Tekin 1550 with 5s 4200mah Hyperion and I cut the throttle back to 90% for the mains and I am able to do a 15 min main. I cut the throttle back some because it forces me to be smooth and consistent. Too many guys think they are fast but they crash in every corner.
How much does your xt8 weigh? Mine was the exact same weight as my buddys losi 8t 2.0 on 4s.
