jordan... 10.17.2008 03:41 AM

Well i did it, just put my order in for the MGM 28025, so it should be here by the middle of next week. I couldn't find the CC 6.5mm bullets in stock anywhere so i just opted for the 5.5mm plugs, i think they should be able to hold up, fingers crossed. Updates to come as soon as it arrives!! :yipi: :yipi:

SV6000 10.22.2008 02:55 AM

Hey Jordan
I have one of those MGM 28025 in my STRR running my plettenburg Maxximum. It is a really good speedy and can handle a battering. Mostly because my driving is really bad. I will say that as soon as you get it the first thing you should do is download the latest SW and controller program from their website. I am waiting for Mike to get the 25035 speedy. I have a spare C50 lying around that would be perfect for 8s

thephilonator 10.22.2008 05:17 AM

alright, finally you've got the esc on the way, how long has it been since the start of this build? Too long.

well done.

TDC57 10.27.2008 01:46 AM

SO did you get your MGM and motor working SIR ????? :eyes:

Got any pictures ???, how was DAD's first day out with the youngin ??? Inquiring minds want to know..

Have a great week sir and I'm looking forward to the update.. :intello:

jordan... 10.27.2008 03:15 AM

Nope, not connected yet. Those 5.5mm connectors that i bought with the 'she'll be right' attitude ended up too small to fit on the motor wires. I have managed to find some 6.5mm connectors and they are on their way from Tower. Im a bit frustrated that its been pushed back again, but when i get these that will definately be everything i need to get this running... i hope :eyes:.

I'm also working on a mount for the ESC, as there isn't much free space with the motor mounted in the centre. Its really simple but should look trick when its done, just need a package from Gmaxx to arrive to finish it up.

Here are some pics of the ESC while im at it, i soldered the battery connectors on and heatshrinked the parallel harness on as well. All i need is the gold plugs and im ready to go.

Hopefully the stuff will come by the end of this week, ...damn international shipping transit times

jordan

George16 10.27.2008 03:19 AM

Looking great Jordan. I know how it feels about shipping.

thephilonator 10.28.2008 01:48 AM

finaly, that took long enough.

yeah international shipping is really annoyingly slow, it took three weeks for me to get a steering bellcrank

TDC57 10.28.2008 02:09 AM

I love the smell of good money / I mean high quality parts in the morning.. :intello:

Looking good Sir.. Real GOOD Jordan..

I bet your chopping at the BLOCK...

So I ask again when is "D" day sir..

And how the frick is the NECK ????? are you 100% yet ??? :eyes:

plettenbergs 10.28.2008 07:47 AM

REMEMBER:find a good golf course, dont get it dirty!....if the neck isn't up to it you can send it to me for break in:diablo:...LOOKS GREAT JORDAN! we all want to see it run ASAP!...your truck might be as expensive as mine, lol:smile:

jordan... 10.30.2008 05:22 AM

Good news, bad news

Quote:

And how the frick is the NECK ????? are you 100% yet ???
Not quite 100%, probably 85-90% though. The neck brace is off and im just getting used to using my muscles and things again. Won't be until the end of November when the spinal specialist can sign me off. Im still not allowed to play sports or go back to work yet...

Now for the bad news, i made a huge screw up :slap: I was shortening the battery wires, and one screw up led to another and as you can see, they are only about 3cm now, nowhere near long enough to get a Deans connector on. So i've ordered some more 6.5mm gold bullets and am just going to make some wire extensions. Seriously i have just about had enough of the setbacks on this truck, just one thing after another pushing 'D-day' back :grrrrrr::grrrrrr::grrrrrr:

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/DSC00069.jpg

I will post some updates when things get here, but im afraid it will be a week or two still until its running. maybe i shouldn't have been :drunk: while doing the wires. ( i wasn't really)

Hardstyle 10.30.2008 07:11 AM

Don't feel sorry about it, I did almost the samething to my bk12020 controller. And it has 4 wires to the batterys :intello:. It was huge pita to solder 'em to one dean.

Btw nice project you have there, I love that center diff thingie

getfrey-80 10.30.2008 01:14 PM

Very nice. Good job. But, absence slipper, may be a problem for motor...

TDC57 10.30.2008 02:06 PM

Hay Jordan.. PM your addy and I'll fedEX some 6.5mm plugs to you, I can get them out later today or tomorrow.. WE don’t want to wait anymore..

have a great one and WAY COOL about the NECK.. congrads..:yipi::yipi: :party:

P.S.
Maybe you should take a page from my BOOK :oh: and start drinking “heavily” & smoking (“Cough” “cough”, COUGH!). during your build process.:yes:. Just a suggestion, a thought, a new life style perhaps .

jordan... 11.01.2008 08:20 AM

Thanks guys, and you have a pm Shaun

I just hope my kids get the same message.. :intello:

BlackedOutREVO 11.01.2008 04:37 PM

I would have to agree, Shaun you are one kind man, always helping everyone out, and your builds are awesome!

As for this maxx, WOW that thing is SICK, and that is one LOOOOOONG motor lol

jordan... 11.06.2008 10:54 PM

Hey guys,

So, after screwing up a couple of 6.5mm plugs, im just waiting on my next order to come through so i can finish up the wiring. Thanks HEAPS to Shaun for sending me some spare plugs, i just recieved them today and will get to work ASAP. Apart from my mistakes, my soldering iron packed it in, so i just got a new one, hopefully it will last a bit longer

Anyway, while im waiting for the plugs, i just finished up my ESC mount. Nothing really custom about it, apart from how i've put it together i guess. Just got a load of the Gmaxx posts for the extended rear skid, made some studs, and mounted the original upper rear plate above the motor. I think it turned out quite well.

Also got some pics of the ESC mounted, just mocked up of course. You can also see the third motor screw i've put in, and the 'brace' im using for the back of the motor. Slowly its coming together

cheers
jordan

BL_RV0 11.06.2008 11:53 PM

How will you end up mounting the motor?

Thanks, at first i did, but couldn't find a 6mm thick piece of carbon. I think i'd need some type of mill or something to cut it out. All i had was my trusty dremel, so i just did what i could :mdr:

George16 11.07.2008 12:41 AM

Looking really Jordan. I can't wait to see a vid of your truck running.

wow nice built:yes:i love this big motor!!!!!!!!

jordan... 11.08.2008 03:25 AM

Thanks everyone,

As for the final ESC mounting, nothing too different, but i have some foam cell padding to put on the plate and i'll probably use zipties. Hopefully will look alot neater than the velcroe and not cover up so much of the heatsink.

Hey Shaun, thanks again for those plugs, you know pics and vids will be up as soon as i get them

thanks phil, yep, i think they are the G4 posts. I bought them as the skid plate braces for the G3 chassis though, not sure if they are different lengths, but i would assume they're the same.

necks really good now, oput of all the braces. Got a check up at the end of the month to hopefully get final clearence so i can get back into my sport/training/things like that etc.

thanks again guys
jordan

TDC57 11.18.2008 10:39 PM

Well

Any updates ??

jordan... 11.19.2008 03:49 AM

Well, for those of you who don't know, i think the MGM i got is a dud, i've tried everything to get it working, but there is just no go. I've e-mailed MGM and am waiting on a reply, so hopefully they send me out a replacement, which i'd definately expect for a $375 controller :grrrrrr:

Im talking to Mike at the moment trying to see if it is maybe me doing something wrong, but at the moment it seems the controller is busted :grrrrrr: :grrrrrr:

just one thing after another...

JERRY2KONE 11.19.2008 05:00 AM

Dont Worry, Be Happy.

Don't worry Jordan. We all have to overcome obstacles from time to time. You will be burning up the dirt before you know it and all of the problems will become a blur to you. Your doing great.

jordan... 11.19.2008 08:39 PM

Well, i just put my order in for an MMM V3, hopefully it will be here in 3-5 days and we'll finally get to see this thing running :yipi:

will keep you guys posted
jordan

BL_RV0 11.19.2008 09:07 PM

Woot!

SV6000 11.20.2008 05:01 AM

MGM Troubles

Hey Jordan what problems are you having with the MGM exactly. I have two 28025-3 and both gave me a lot of trouble to start with but all worked out fine. 9 times out of ten it was something i was doing.
So what are the problems. I dont think that your MMM will handle that motor 4.5Kw/22.2V=204.5A

jordan... 11.20.2008 09:58 AM

the problems are...

First off, using the CC_03 cable with the USBcom++ to update the controller SW, the PC will not recognize the controller. So I cannot update anything as it stays stuck at the ‘searching for device’ stage. That is using the MGM flasher software by the way, downloaded from the MGM website.

Second problem is I cannot set the throttle points using the transmitter, or get the ESC into programming mode at all for that matter. I have read the various walkthroughs and instructions on how to do this, ie. Hold full throttle, turn on the transmitter. Turn on the controller/receiver and it should beep to let you know its going into programming mode, then put it to reverse, then neutral etc. But it does nothing. The only thing that happens is a green light turns on inside the ESC, but I get no flashes or beeps or anything else.

Another thing is that when I connect the whole system up, the steering servo will work, but the motor will not turn when I use the throttle. Which is a bit odd, because I think this proves the BEC is working, but somehow no power is going to the motor.

And I’m using the Spektrum DX3R.

Also, im only running 5s, (18.5v). I used Brians calc and i think the average continuous amps i'll be pulling should be alright for the MMM, fingers crossed.

thanks for any help, would be much appreciated
jordan

lutach 11.20.2008 10:08 AM

Are you holding full throttle for over 10 seconds?

feistyacorn 11.20.2008 10:26 AM

Not sure if you have already tried it but, sometimes the throttle needs to be reversed on the remote before the ESC can be programmed. I have a Futaba 3PK and a MMM and I had to. Good luck! Awesome build!

jordan... 11.20.2008 09:30 PM

@Lutach: yep, held it down for a minute just to be sure and no beeps or flashes or anything

@feistyacorn: yep tried that, that was actually one of Mikes suggestions, still nothing though

cheers guys, any other suggestions would be awesome, i actually hope its something im doing so i dont have to wait for replacements etc.

Man, I don't know what to say. Do you have another radio to try it with?

jordan... 11.20.2008 10:21 PM

hmmm... the only other radio i have is the TQ that comes with the stock e-maxx. Im not to sure witht this one. I remember having the exact same problem, the steering servo working, but the motor not working when my EVX-1 packed it in. Thats why im a bit suspicious of the ESC. Hopefully SV6000 knows something i dont know
