I'm running 5S & a 1700Kv Nue in a RC8, Far from an extreem set up. No way my set-up killed 4 MMM bec's & not the other 2 (these 2 have the fan grills removed & the fan connector removed from the bottom board). Sure is a weird thing. 4 MMM's die in stock configuration but the 2 I broke the fan connectors off of and removed the fan grill from are working like a charm. I feel a large % of the problems are mechanical (not including the bad chip on V1's).

I am excited to hear about V3.. My V2 died after 3 battery packs and my V1 died last night.. the fan had quite a while ago but I had put a fan on top of it I was running at my track when all of sudden it just quit...

3: Case is a poor design. IC/parts contact the bottom, throttle/switch wires could be chafed on the case, and (on V2) the bullet connectors are much too close to the heatsink. Also, if they insist on leaving the fan, allow it to be replaced without having to take the case apart.

These have been problems since V1 that should have been addressed on the V2. I really wish they could get the int bec working right. Since I've had to add a ccbec I've once again had to plug it into the bat/bind plug on my 3100 rec and now I'm losing bind when I shut it off.

All of this is taking the fun out of the hobby for me. I just want to run my Savage.....is that too much to ask?

Respectfully, I disagree (not trying to bash you here:wink:). Castle *recommend* 6S with the 1515 1Y, and will have designed the controller to take the current with that kind of voltage. I don't think anyone's even managed to thermal a Monster yet, anyway...most of the catastrophic failures (flames) have been fairly random. They could even be a minor software glitch; maybe, for whatever reason, something's confusing the software momentarily, causing it to send incorrect commands to the FET controllers (or whatever controls the FETs), and poof; flames. They did say they're releasing a new software revision, afterall.

It's all just speculation right now, but I can't see that just running the controller perfectly within spec is causing the issues. 6 months ago it would have been expensive to get this kind of reliable power (assuming the MMM will be reliable with V3), but technology just becomes cheaper.

Now that I am remembering back to my run, It had done a single cartwheel before it stopped working. I have read about a couple peoples MMM that stopped working after a landing or being jolted somehow. Then it stopped and I reset it. Worked for 10 seconds then shut down. I got the same blinking lights then fading some people have posted. I dont think my setup of 4S and a 7XL had anything to do with it.

My only concern on the 6S setups is that some people are not taking into account the amperage spikes that could be occuring. On 6S and geared high there could be voltage spikes in the hundreds of amps. A lot of these people are running 5000mah cells in 3S config series for 6S total. I dont think most 5000mah cells are up to the task of providing the current needed. I not an expert on ripple currents or anything like that, but I am not sure how the speed controllers react to asking for 200 amps of spike, but only getting 100 in return from the battery.

My 7XL setup geared for 39mph sees spikes of about 80A. For every mph over that I'm sure there is a huge increase with motor inrush currents and its not a linear factor.

I think if you switch the CCBEC plug from the bat/bind slot to the aux slot it might fix the problem with having to re-bind. it did for me, and is listed on castle's CCBEC page.

I'd like my apology.. ;)

jayjay283 09.30.2008 09:35 PM

I, Jason, apologize to E-mikey for calling him out, on what was said. I was wrong, he was right. Though you are still a MMM burning up n00b :intello: good ?

Your 80A was math or measured amps? just wondering. i would hope that castle would not recomended 75A cont. rating for your cells and sell it with a 1515 1y. i run on 6s 1512 1700kv and have had a total of 4 stop working. 1- died in calibration 2- worked for ten laps then stopped 3- turned on blipped throttle to check ok turn it off put on tires go outside turn on nothing 4-worked for 5-6 mins driving in dirt lot at work pulled car up to check temp, died. was running mech. brakes too. castle approved of the setup i chose as well. not a speed run car i like to race, dont like to drive unless at the track but couldnt help it that morning. people were starting to think i was crazy cause i had been telling them i would bring it when it was done for like 3 months. when it ran it was FAST(15/46== 38mph)and nothing was above ambient temp.(75*) i would think if it was spiking in the hundreds of amps something would at least warm up.

it is indeed a mystery to what is really happening and cant wait for my v3 to arrive so i can get a full pack in :mdr:

hemiblas 09.30.2008 10:43 PM

The 80A was a measured peak on my wattmeter. I run about 42A continous at top speed on 4S on a stock emaxx geared 20/68. If you are running 6S and you are geared for 38mph your amp peaks would be even less than mine. I think some of it might be people that are geared for 45mph on 4S and then decide to throw in some 6S lipos on the same gearing to see what happens. Again thats a small percentage. I think most failures have been BEC related if you look at the data on the failure posts. Something to think about is that most emaxxes have 2 servos. Maybe they are pulling to much current for the BEC?

Hi all, do you think we can expect a reply by e mail from C/C or do they definitively stopped reply? :(

jayjay283 10.01.2008 03:15 AM

Patrick will answer, you dont seem to have a question for him though

Hello, my question is : Can I have a reply to all my e mails? (I'll resend once again today ...)
I just wanted to place an order, I'm C/C reseller for France and it seems impossible to buy anything .

Who are you trying to contact? (and what email address are you using?)

Thanx!
