Here is the flying truggy :D

ANGRY-ALIEN 05.29.2010 01:43 PM

Those are some nice numbers guys ... Keep the updates coming.

nuz69 05.29.2010 01:53 PM

I ran 2 batteries this afternoon, I tried to push the motor to its limit :D

158F on the rear plate and 130F on the front after the 2 batteries, ambient was 80F, and it was on heavy grass, with 17/46 ~50mph ! There is still safety gap with the 170F limit... but on race or normal bash the temp keeps at 130-140 max on the rear plate...
45-50mph on grass is very impressive :D I love see that thing wheeling on demand, even at mid speed :D
But I am disapointed with RCM pignons... it seems to use itself pretty quickly, maybe due to the extra weight of the truggy ? I have a NOVAK one in my buggy and it's still in good shape after 250 batteries...

Today's video, nothing new, just JUMP :D

SWEEETT!!!! Damn that thing can fly .. Great work man... can't wait to get mine going again...

Jahay 05.31.2010 05:14 AM

some great vids there nuz!!! looks impressive! I am having teh same problems with pinions. I think i am going to swith to a plastic spur as it will stop wear on it.
I am not really worried about temps at the moment as some people say you should only get really worried if it hits 190? i am more worried about the ESC blowing! What temps are your esc?

nuz69 05.31.2010 05:28 AM

The ESC has a thermal safety so it won't be a problem, unless you produce a huge spike of current like 100mph gearing and 0% punch control full throttle ^^
When I pushed the truggy hard while 2 batteries on grass (50mph 17/46 gearing), my motor was at 158F and ESC 150F, so it's still acceptable. Yet in 15/46 the ESC fan rarely come ON.
And yes :( RCM pinions are fragile :(, I have yet a Robinson Racing pinion and it's perfect.

Jahay 05.31.2010 06:21 AM

well ill look into a robinson pinion.

Nuz this 1520motor works very well when geared to around 50-55mph depending on how much your truck weighs. Im weighing in at 14lbs and i dont really have temp problems and majority of the time im running on grass and the rc calc says i am geared to 53mph on 6s.

Im hoping to leave the gearing exactly as it is and run 9s for speed runs. Im sure this motor can easily handle it as the motor will be reaching 52000rpm which is acceptable. I doubt i will gear down...ill just monitor temps and see what this motor can really do

nuz69 05.31.2010 07:02 AM

My truggy weights 4.8 kg, I don't know in lbs ^^
What is your temp after one battery on the rear black plate of the motor ? It's here where the temp is the higher. It depends on the ambient temp and how I drive it too. I doubt that continuously full throttle on grass won't overheat the motor, like all motor.
If I drive it like in the videos, hard acceleration jump, cool coming back, rejump... I dont get over120-130 with 17/46 (50mph) but during high speed runs and heavy wheelies on grass the motor seems to heat faster.

I thought Mugen transmission was unbreakable :lol: These are 2 rear shaft, gived up after 50 batteries 6S 4000mAh, but I bought the truck already used :D
Bad chineses shaft ? Or the badboy 1520/1Y ?

Jahay 06.07.2010 07:44 AM

Badboy 1520!!!! are these drive shafts? going from diff to wheels???or the centre shaft from the CD?

How did it happen? Jumping?Acceleration??

nuz69 06.07.2010 07:57 AM

Yes, both broken near the diff output, at exactly yhe same place. I don't know how it happened ;), I'm sure it's because they becomed mechanical fragile. I often drive on grass, where the grip is good, the the rear shafts take a lot in their face
Anyway, it's unbelievable, mugen's shafts can be broken too !

Jahay 06.07.2010 08:00 AM

actually its good you brought that to my attention...

I drive primarily on grass (think thats my reason for going through so many pinions and transmissions) so i will consider swapping the front and rear drive shafts.

Still i think 50+ runs on one set of drive shafts is pretty gd considering the abuse they take!

nuz69 06.07.2010 08:15 AM

You already have broken transmission ? In your savage ?
