Well, have I been having some fun! Man I love this truck. Mounted up a pair of HCR Purple Titanium bumpers onto my suspension, these really set the truck up nicely I think:

Plan is to have my Centralemaxx 7075 16mm knuckles anodised purple to match the rest of the theme. I had the opportunity to pick up some HCR Purple bulks, but I just feel Silver Centres matched with purple on the outer parts ties things together better...

Anyway, on with some pics:

Then I made the decision to donate a set of new rims I had for this build. A buddy sold me a NIP set of UE dish rims. It was hard taking them out of the plastic packaging, but they fit this truck very well, & I am thinking of getting them anodised purple to suit too. I found a local business that specialise in small runs of anodising parts...

Looking great, Sam!

Those wheels look like they're moving just sitting there! That's awesome!

DarkSammy 03.30.2016 07:42 PM

Thanks guys, have loved working on this truck. I paid for an in new condition Gorillamaxx short front skid the other day too. Should receive it in the next few weeks once it arrives from the states. Will post up pics once it has been installed

Mike I cannot tell you how much I love the design of the Slipperential V1! I just can't take my eyes off it. Back in the days when you designed it, what were the goals you set out to achieve? I am guessing the only alternative at the time was the G1 motor mount and that seems like it mounts the motor(s) far too high imho... Nitro would still have been more mainstream back them too? What motors were you guys using when the Slipperential was in its heyday?

RC-Monster Mike 04.02.2016 03:28 PM

Glad you like it, Sam. The design goal at the time was purposeful to say the least: The gear ratio was developed based on 40k motor rpms yielding around 40mph +/- top speed, with available pinion/spur options - this was pretty ideal for race situations(and still is, actually). I raced quite frequently at the time and was sponsored by GorillaMaxx(and did a fair amount of R&D as well as making a few parts for the Gorilla kits). The Gorilla mount was too flimsy and the stock tranny setup had a very high Cg. I wanted a center differential for optimum handling, and the slipper for motor longevity(rotors had a bad habit of dislocating from the shaft) and traction control....they say necessity is the mother of invention, so the Slipperential transmission was born! When Gorilla released the G3 kits, the chassis braces no longer had the holes used to mount the motor mount for my setup - I briefly redesigned it with the Gorilla Revo compatibility(only made 2 or 3 of those) and discontinued the part - followed up by the patented Slipperential center diff we offer today. :-)

Man, absolutely awesome info, thanks for sharing! I can't begin to imagine how exciting times back then would have been with electric components of our hobby getting better and better by the day... You need to be commended on the results you have achieved over the years.

Finally got some nice enough weather and the time to take some shots out in the yard this weekend. Hope you guys enjoy:

That's a good looking rig there! Didn't think I would like the dish wheels but man they look great!

DarkSammy 04.03.2016 07:34 PM

I agree 100%. I was not a big fan either but they came up for sale at a good price and I could not pass them up. Their reflection in the light really sets the truck apart I feel and I am happy I grabbed these rims when I did. Now I just gotta find some tyres, I reckon a set of 3.2 Badlands would be the ticket, but man they are hard to come by. Wish Proline continued manufacturing them as they are the go to tyre for a lot of MT drivers.

nitrostarter 04.03.2016 08:16 PM

Right! When Traxxas switched to the 3.8" wheel, the market converted as well. I was looking to find some Maxx Mulchers but that's a needle in a haystack as well, even though they made those in 40 series too.

Edit: just checked eBay and these Mulchers are available and may interest you https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/231870975368

Thanks for the links man! Really appreciate it, I always loved the Mulchers back in the day, might keep my eyes out for a set. I just forked out $530 for another truck haha, so my wallet is hurting too much this week to afford new tyres...
