DM-1 Spec
Hey all,
I just ordered a DM-1 Spec and some other stuff to begin my build. I am planning to use a MMM, Neu 1515 1Y, and 5S or 4S FP 5000mah. I am looking for recommendations on the following aspects of the build: 1) Should I use the stock 2-speed, 1 speed spool, or center differential? I have a spare set of front/rear/center spider 8 diffs and I am considering using these. What do you think? 2) What gearing do you recommend? 3) What weight diff and shock fluid? 4) Any other misc. recommendations or lessons learned from other BL on-road builders? I will be out of town for a couple of weeks but will post many pics when I return. Thanks for taking the time to read and reply. |
Looks like Billy has a little compition at the parkinglot races lol.

DM-1 Spec brushless conversion
Quote:
I have been searching the internet for anyone else converting the OFNA DM-1 Spec to brushless. I am planning to do the same this winter! Apparently the drive train is the same configuration as the Jammin' X1 buggy so immediately I thought of Novak's conversion kit. The problem I was wondering was the same as your question #1. What to use for a center diff? I figured I would use a single-speed and did not know if there was a choice between a solid and a spool. I know OFNA manufactures a single-speed solid diff I believe they use in the Ultra GTP kit setup for dirt oval. I would love to see pics of your conversion and will subscribe to this thread. I use a Neu 1512 2D and the MMM v3 in a Losi 8ight conversion but was thinking of using the Novak HV 4.5 in the DM-1 spec. What are your thoughts on the battery tray? I am wondering if I will need to fabricate one or retro-fit the RCPD tray or use the Novak's somehow. The chassis is narrow on the DM-1 and would like to balance everything as best as possible. Cheers! |
Here we go....
Just got a lot of my parts for my DM-1 Spec BL project.

you know those are "ue supermaxx 8 spiders" don't you?

I will look into the supermaxx guys and learn some more. Thanks for the heads up and am looking to complete a similar conversion soon. I figured I would shoot for something that would accomodate Kyosho spurs but is not that important to me . . . |

BTW: The single speed holds up very well to BL power. I've ran a few packs through it and everything is working fine. |

I just finished a Losi 8ight brushless conversion and need something for on-road. |

ofna 8 spiders and ue 8 spiders are the same thing. UE just renamed them and rasied the price. Buy OFNA 8 spiders off ebay for less than $50 |
Just so y'all know...I just got back and tried o drop in the center spider diff with the 46T spur and ran into a few problems:
1) the Jammin CR motor mount doesn't sit quite high enough to accomodate the spur. I have four options to correct this (a) dremel a little material around the chassis spur gear opening (b) try to find a smaller spider spur gear (c) Swap the CR mount for my CRT (d) insert some spacers or washers in between the chassis and center diff assembly 2) The front center dog bone is 88.5mm and the rear center is 104mm. When I switched the 2-speed for the center diff, the front center dog bone was too short. It looks like the 104mm dog bones (front and rear center) would fix this issue. Brian, Do you have a link to the center spool you mentioned? Part numbers? Thanks. |
How about a link: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBZN2
It only comes with what is pictured; no bearings or drive cups. The one I got was even missing the 5mm set screw. I hope it was simply missed, because it makes no sense to have it without the screw. It uses the same cups and bearings that the 2 speed uses though... |
