that equals a rear dogbone length of 7 inches :gasp:

if you look at the first pic, you can see the centre diff cup is past the SS arm though, so i would have to mount the unit further back, which means the motor might not fit. Maybe if someone hadn't gone overboard on the motor, then this setup would be way easier to install
what can i say, i NEED power :diablo:

BL_RV0 05.13.2008 08:52 AM

Yeah, I would too if I spent (I'm guessing) $3500 on a truck. The rear dogbone would have to be pretty dang fat to not snap, though.

suicideneil 05.13.2008 01:54 PM

Its strange you know, I've been trying to fihure out a way to mount the motor on a center diff like this for ages- the maxx steering assembly & gmaxx chassis rails do add a few extra layers of complication. RCAlloys can make big fat dogbones for you, any length you like for a nominal fee that is very reasonable. At best, the sketches I've done that allow a CD unit to be fitted to the Gmaxx require custom made chassis rails- far easier than trying to work around the stock tranny mounting location. Oh, and you might wanna take a look at this too: MaxxBling

im still going to be using the gmaxx lower plate, i just had it off to fit the CD mount, and didn't get it back on for the pics. It was really only a mock up in the pics, you can see that i only have four screws holding on the plate instead of eight, and theyre all different lengths.

I had to make the CD plate because if i mounted the CD on the 'floor,' (lower gmaxx plate) i wouldn't be able to get clearence between the motor and the upper back plate, if that makes sense... also, the 44t kyosho spur fits EXACTLY in between the frame rails, like perfectly, not even half a mill on each side to spare, so i had to raise the CD for clearence there as well.

i think i've answered your question , if not, please feel free to clarify. Im open to any suggestions/questions/comments/criticisms, after all, it can only make the truck better.

thanks
jordan

I was wondering what you had planned??

Thanks for the replay Jordan..

I cant wait to see you next update..

Have a great one..

Shaun.

Good idea with the (non)coloured lipos, the reason i decided Neu is because they have a 5000mah 30C pack, whereas the 30C Flightpower only goes up to 4900mah, probably not a huge difference there though  Might have to consider that shrink wrap idea of jhautz, it would look alot neater with black packs.

As for the CF vinyl, i got it from Tower, search through the manufacturers for 'Upgrade RC', they make loads of different vinyls for wings, radios, wheels, even pit chairs!! It turned out alot better than i thought it would!! They make a whole buch of different designs as well, so yeh, check it out.

thanks for the comments
jordan

Have you looked at the two 5000 batteries nue has, one is the 30c as your looking at and then they have the 25c and the only differances between the two are 125amp/150amp continous, the 30c is 23mm longer and 25 grams heavier........i didnt know if you had seend that or not and was still going to run the 30c even though its so much longer, i am looking at the same battery for my setup, i saw one place that had either pack for $220 each, i thought that was a good deal but id have to look through my histroy and find it if you wanted the site.

jordan... 05.15.2008 10:02 PM

thanks for the info rootar,

$220 each?? on the Neu website the 25C packs are $149.50, and the 30C packs are $188 each. Problem is im not too sure if they have any stock in at the moment...

[EDIT] which Neu packs are you talking about for $220? im planning on running 2x 3s packs for 6s.

rootar 05.16.2008 06:24 PM

oh ok, ive now decided to go with 30C 4500mah Polyquest packs (if you didnt see my other thread in the brushless section) because of the $70+ i'll save for not much difference in performance.

I've also tried to get in contact with Neu through CC where i ordered my motor, but havent recieved any replies. I'm really annoyed with Neu's customer service as they've already charged my credit card but arent updating me on my motor. Also coming up on 7 weeks now, and the lead time is supposed to be 2-4 weeks, and heavent heard anything from Neu

I'll post updates when i can, but i really need this motor :whip:

thanks alot
jordan

Seems like Neu need to employ more people/ expand their business & output, given the explosion in BL popularity.

jordan... 05.27.2008 08:37 AM

Hi everyone,

A quick update nothing major, still not heard anything about the motor :grrrrrr: I managed to fashion a top plate for the centre differential unit out of the carbon fibre i have today, and i think it looks ok (a little rough around the edges). Hopefully it'll provide enough clearance when its all fully together.

Also put a Gorillamaxx sticker on the back of the wing which i think looks pretty funky, also thought id just throw in a full picture of the truck with the different headlights and vinyl'd wing.

thanks for looking, as i said, no major progress has really been made, just bits here and there. I'll keep you guys posted when the motor gets in!!

Heard.

I have read other posts here in RCM where people have stated that if you are going to order a NEU motor to make sure that you order it through MIKE because he has a repour and reputation with them that makes the ordeal a little less painful. That way you are only dealing with him and not the manufacturer. Just sharing the info.

jordan... 05.27.2008 08:23 PM

True, i wish i had now given Mike's top notch customer service. But due to the motor being fairly 'one of a kind' i think Mike would have had to special order it from Neu anyway, so id still be waiting

But at least id definately get a reply to my emails from Mike, he's definately got the best service around!! :rules:

Life

Yea sometimes things just do not go the way we would like, but where there is a will there is a way:mdr:. We all know it will work out in the end. Your project really turned out beautiful:party:. I am sure that you are quite proud and there is an awsome feeling of satisfaction when everything comes together:yipi:. I never did the Gmaxx version. The carbon fiber stuff looks really cool, but as TDC found out it has a weaker quality that only metal can cure:yes:. After reading through your thread I cannot wait to get my lightning Supermaxx completed and post it up here as well:whistle:. I was just thinking that I will have to post a thread with all four of my Maxx's so I can finally share them with everyone. It has been a long but fun road getting to this point and I will soon have all four of them up and running (by Xmas hopefully). Great job on this build Jordan. I am very much looking forward to seeing this Neu 1527 motor of yours:gasp:. I have the Big Max motor and I want to see how it compares. I may have to get a similar Neu for one of these beasts of mine. I just ordered two more monoblocks from UE for two of them. I to like the idea of having the built in fan on the motor. From other posts I have read the power of the 1527 is just rediculous for the Maxx trucks, but who knows? I guess you will find out first hand and then we can learn from your experience. Thanks for the thread Jordan, it has been great reading about your project. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing it with all of us.

jordan... 05.28.2008 04:53 AM

Thanks for the kind words Jerry, really means alot. I can't wait to see your trucks, i always see your 'JERRY2KONE SUPERMAXX' heading and just wonder what truck(s) you could be hiding from us all

A lightning you say :gasp: can't wait to see how that is going to come together, they are THE most awesome chassis full stop...... A Bigmaxx on a lightning supermaxx, i dont think you can get any better than that :diablo:

again thanks for the kind words Jerry, be sure to get some pics of your Maxx family up some time in the future

jordan

P.S I may have cracked a way to mount the CD on the lower deck of the Gmaxx chassis, and still be able to fit the 1527 in, but sssshhhhhh... its a secret for now
