Aaaah, see that prop adapter in the picture?
It does have the 3 holes in the endbell. There's a pretty good chance the fan will fit it. |
I guess testing will be in order.
Is metalman using a kms motor in his direct to diff drive mt2? |

These motors might be a better choice for that boat project too. |
he is also using one of these motors in is 4x4 rock crawler

I replaced the Quark 125 amp Monster Pro in this setup with the Mamba Max ESC.
I haven't had a chance to really put it to the test yet. We have another ice storm in progress. Ugh! LOL I have to hand it to Castle. Just with Low Speed Carpet Running, Startups ARE MUCH BETTER! The first low speed throttle step on the controller will start great with NO cogging and move really slow without stuttering. Or WOT will go wheels up on the blast off. It appears to me they got it right. I love the PC link. Wouldn't High Timing and High Start Power be best for this setup? |
Thats the general rule- higher the number of poles, higher the timing/start power, at least if you go by what all the instruction say. I thought you were the expert dude? :mdr:

This is good to hear, I would think that high start power should help, I have the MM set to that way for my Plett maxximum in the crt.5 Not sure about the timing though, do outrunner require more timing advance? I would have thought that since they run slow they would need less timing. |

I pmed Metalman about a possible "hook-up" on the KMS motors. I guess the lower kv versus inrunner motors doesn't make a difference. I know the phase switching via esc is alot higher per revolution. From what I understand, the timing is just the precise point of phase switch in the rotation. |
Just finished the first Mamba Max test run with this setup.
I have ran the Mamba Max in the beginning when it first came out, and I really didn't much care for it. It didn't work with outrunners at all, and I had glitching, along with radio range issues that I couldn't figure out. The range issues disappeared when I switched to a different ESC. So go figure, I dunno. But for me in the beginning, there was this "black cloud" that followed the Mamba Max around, so I steered clear of it. I opted for the higher priced Quark Line. I have been very pleased with the Quark ESC's. I now own 3 of them. One 80amp, and 2 of the Monster Pro's. IMO, this Mamba Max isn't the same speed controller at all. It just gave me a performance, I must say, is slightly better than the Quark did with this setup. It's must be more on target with motor timing, because I'm seeing cooler motor temps. I do have the punch control set to 100%, which could be the root of the cooler temps. But this is just another great part of Castle's programability. The ESC ran cool. I was very surprised at this, because when I first tried it with outrunners, it didn't want to run them. It would thermal within minutes. It gave me about 4 more minutes of runtime. Could be I drove it a little different. Could be that the punch control helps tame starting amperage spikes. BUT, there was a ton of dirt and grass hung up in the drive shafts and wheels that I blew out with compressed air after the run. So Tit for Tat, I think it's more efficient. This "New" Mamba Max knows exactly how to start this outrunner. It even sounds different in doing so. Ultra Low speed on the trigger or grabbing WOT, it doesn't matter. Brakes are smooth set at 50%. Way to go Castle!!! With the new MMM having this firmware and seeing how this setup performs, I am sold! Now I'll shut and take my place in the waiting line for the New MMM! :great: |
So you like the new firmware then I take it?.... :mdr:

Great to hear, I may put a mm in the redcat and some taller tires for more off road use. I will run it on 4s, as 5s will be too fast with taller tires. So a high setting on the punch control helps startup? You had it set to full on at 100%, kind of like a cutrrent limiting feature then. Hoping that the mm will be able to hadle the higher loads placed on the axi by the taller tires. You are running the higher kv model in an emaxx, albiet with more reduction gearing than I have with the redcat, that is considerably lighter. On a side note, I received all of the parts I will need to get the next revo ready, just need Mike to release the center diff with the integrated slipper. I am thinking that one of the century motors would be interesting! |
THat is good to hear seeing I just got my outrunner which I will be running with my mm.
Thanks for the great info |

Punch control does help tame the wheelies and makes this more controllable. Which would be great for track racing. Have you found us a better deal on the Century Motors? My "NEW" E maxx transmissions should be here today. Where's that mail lady? LOL |

The MM is looking pretty good here. |

The new firmware is what this controller needed all the way along. Castle needs to come out with some new advertising. It's VERY different and better now. |
