Awesome for you and your dad pinkpanda! He must be a hell of a man. It always amazes me what my dad still does, there is no stopping him.
Congrats on competing and finishing. |
Thanks Harold. Some oldies just do as they please don't they. They don't have to do it the hard way... they do it because they can. I get the impression your Dad is a bit of an inspiration for you too?

It is finally here for us roadies. wireless shifting.

Looks interesting, but more of a novelty to me. Just like they said it doesn't look like it will save any weight. I kinda like the simplicity of cycles- occassional maintenance, ride it. I have enough batteries to worry about with rc's and flashlights.

I got hit by a car today while riding my bike. I was doing between 18 & 20 mph, when this 60 plus year old lady tuned in FR of me, when i had the right of way (green light). She stopped about 15 yards or so away, got out of her car mumbling something looked at her car. She then got back in her car & drove away. But don't worry the Bike is okay. My brake handles were crooked & my SIDI'S were scuffed up & my bar tape was ripped.
|
Sorry to hear it Hippie. It's a constant worry, especially for roadies. I hope you got the license plate number.

This is just the kind of stuff I DONT need to hear.
A neighbor produced a very lightly used road bike for me to bring back to life and just ride. All that is left is to do is stuff a new tube on the rear and I had planned to do that shortly. But more importantly, glad to hear you are ok, and the bike as well. No road rash on the elbows or knee's? |

Accident update. The cop came to my work this morning & took a report. He then went to talk to the lady. She admitted that she hit me, & it was her fault. He wrote her some kind of citation, & she will also get a certified letter from the state, requiring her to retake her drivers license test. If she fails the test or to respond to the letter she looses her license. Also she was 86 years old. No road rash. there is one little area on the rr part of the drive side chain stay. It looks like a crack, but i don't think it is because it does not come thru the clear coat. The officer also put her insurance info in the report, in-case i find damage latter. |
Glad to hear you survived dude! I have been hit twice by females in cars. The 1st was an old bag that could barely see over the dash. The second was a younger woman with her kids in the car. Both blew stop signs when I was already established in the intersection. I almost moved on after the 1st hit, but the second I managed to not take a head hit. I almost beat the lady up, I had to use some serious restraint. I had her against the car and was ready to show her how it feels. Scared the pee out of her. She would not call the police and I did not have a phone on me. I should have slammed her head in the car door a few times, but her kids were there. I just told her that she should pay attention cause she could hit some kid and kill them. She cried alot.
Anyways, I still have the bike, had to put a new rim on it, but it still gets ridden from time to time. |

Wow. Glad you made it out ok Hipster.
I ride with some bright lights on and it seems to help a lot. People take a second look at what the hell is coming towards them through the intersections. |
Whohoo
The check came yesterday. It has been cashed & is in my savings account. Also i just bought my new frame & fork. I went with a Titanium frame & carbon fork. I got a Lynsky r330 & a enve fork. Here are some pics.

Very nice indeed. I'm considering an SMP seat like that. Dad got another 2nd hand bike with the same seat. I had a quick ride down the street to get a feel... it was very comfy:yes:

Thanks guys. Panda i have the Stratos model from Selle smp.it fits me good. They make about 6 or 7 models & each one is different.

Very well done.
I see you like the Park brand tools as well. Just something about knowing you are using the very best. Ive got a riding buddy that thinks its crazy to spend money on the good stuff. I love building bikes. |
I came off my bike yesterday:gasp: First accident on the road bike. It was early morning, still dark... ish. We rounded a corner and a ute (pick up) passed us, I didn't know it was there until it was beside us, it crossed to the other side and went around us. Nice manners of the fella but it rattled me a little that I didn't hear it coming.
A little down the road I looked over my shoulder to check for cars, nothing. When I looked forward again I wasn't looking straight forward. Here we drive on the left of the road, I was near the gutter and my dad was near the centre line of the road. When I looked forward again dad was 2 foot in front of me and I was about to run into his left leg. The bike of course was leaning in that direction and I had nowhere to go. I hit the brakes but still clipped dad's back wheel and come a gutser. I barked my arm, my hip and my leg. I think I was doing about 27km/h or more. In a matter of a couple of seconds I went from near the gutter to skidding just past the middle of the road. It f***ing eats me that I had an accident all on my own, because of me! I'm still not sure why I lost balance, dizziness/vertigo from looking back, low blood sugar, tiredness, bike set up??? I say bike set up because the neck I have is longer than usual set ups. The bloke that fitted the bike for me put it on there. Comfortable position for riding but I have a tendency to lean quite a bit on the bars as a result. This means the bike has a tendency to steer straight so in a corner I have to make that little bit more effort to pull the bars around. I don't think this was the sole reason but it may have been a combination I guess?? I guess everyone has there moments but it just shits me the reason why I crashed :diablo: I suppose it's better than being hit by a car... eh Hippie?? |

I have yet to buy one of them. I'm still using zipties on my frame to true my wheels. |

When you look back with one hand on the bars. your bike all ways drifts. Here is a tip i read on Velo news, when turning around to look. Put your hands closer to the stem. It is supposed to help with balance. At least you are okay. Snelleim thanks. I have had it for over 15 years. |
