Sounds awesome! Did you get to race it yet? if so, how did you do?
Bye:018: |
No, no racing yet (except against my son's Stampede :)). I am seriously thinking of picking up a slower motor because I think it's TOO fast, especially for the small local track.
I did notice that some dirt gets in the balancer plugs, so I took a pair of extra male 4s plugs I had laying around, removed the wires, and hotglued the ends. Now, I can just plug them in to keep the dirt out, and remove them when I need to hook up my balancer... |
Brian,
Good idea with the male plugs. I'll have to keep that in mind. So what slower motor are you considering? What's the next model down in the Neu motor lineup? |
I was thinking the 2.5d, or maybe something around the 1700-1900kv range (but Mike only has the 2.5d in stock). 2600kv is just too fast for the limited gearing choices in a buggy for a small track IMO. I'm sure it will be more gentle on the batts too. And I'm already running a 14T pinion. Don't get me wrong, the 2d is an awesome motor - definitely not lacking in torque and still stays cool!
Yeah, the balancer plug idea was just a spur of the moment thing, but now I think I'll do that to all my Li batteries as well. Or, I can just swap the two I have to whatever vehicle I happen to be running at the moment. |
Don't feel bad BG... everyone eventually will come around to the motors I'm running 1700-1900kv, instead of the "faster" ones.... :D muah ha ha ha ha ha
:p So I take it you like the car.... :027: |
Actually, several posts back, I did mention that Mike sent the wrong motor. I ordered the 2.5d, but got the 2d instead. The 2.5d motor was in a 2d box. I only realized it after I ran it.
I actually like running lower kv motors as they seem to be more forgiving with to-tall gearing. Anyway, yes I LOVE it. :) |
Yeah I remeber that hee hee I was just messing with yall. :D
Hey maybe we can meet up sometime and I'll bring a video camera.... |
Sure, just need a place to play really. The HH track was a tad muddy when I was there Friday. And we're supposed to get rain the next few days. Grr.
|
OK, I have a couple VERY short videos. I had my blonde 12 year old step-daughter film it using my digital camera. There IS a reason for those blonde jokes - seriously. Anyway, they were trimmed to keep the fat driver (me) out of the movie. The first one has no sound because I didn't think you wanted to hear me to continually remind her to follow the buggy with the camera, not her head. The other DOES have a bit of sound. Neither one really shows the top speed, but oh well...

Those were cool. :) Need more!
Happy Birthday btw! |
I'll replace those (or add to them) when I can get someone with a slightly higher IQ to operate the camera. :005:
|
lol higher iq... thats not mean ;D
LOL that thing loks VERY fast! and happy b day! lol ur present can be a better filmer =P hehe |
Yeah, maybe it IS a bit mean, but not untrue! :)
Actually, no presents. My son did make me some type of drawing but that's it. I guess my CRT is my b-day present to myself. :027: |
Looks good... you can tell it's fast! They usually don't look as fast in a vid clip as it does in person.
Nice drift :0 |
I couldn't really get on the throttle in the street on takeoff because the tires would just break loose. Once I get to about 10-15mph, then I can gun it and it goes good. Unfortunately, I didn't get any shot of that because the camera-woman was shooting me, not the car. And that close, my body covers half the street. :) The drift actually ended better, but again, I got in the way. Poo. These tires are NOT meant for street use!
I also flipped over once (the end of my d-way has a lump) and slid along the street enough to wear the shock ends so they pop out kinda easily. Now I need to go to HH again and hope they have something in stock. BTW: At the end of the run (about 15-20 min) the batts were still hardly warm to the touch, as well as the motor/ESC. SO, that's promising since it was warm out today. |
She's only 12.... Maybe shes just a late bloomer..
|
Yeaaahhh. You'd have to know her really. She personifies the word "blonde". She's not dumb because she does OK in school as long as she's not staring off in la-la land...
|
Quote:
or she has someone staring at her, which she starts back at them lol... jk but how fast would u say it goes? |
Well, I know my Jato has done 47mph (police radar), and this buggy seems at least as fast as the Jato. But the Hyper 8 is bigger so the fear factor of driving a larger vehicle might be skewing my perspective. Just put it this way; the vids did not show top speed.
|
Cool video's. If the vid's didn't show top speed, that thing sure has got to be quick and fast. From the movie, it looked to be rippping down the street.:027:
Happy B-day!! |
Yeah, the buggy hits top speed about 75-100ft past me in the vid, but I was in the way of the cam. I think it's actually too fast for the track I plan to use it at, but oh well.
I took a video of the slow speed performance. It's a little better since I was able to prop the camera somewhere stable. Don't mind the hanging sheets in the background - It's a ball net so my son can practice hitting tee-ball in the house without breaking anything. :) Vid 3 That's as slow as I can go without it stopping. Notice no cogging? :) |
NICE.... gotta love that...
|
Slower than a nitro :).
|
yeah.. try that with a nitro... run it in the basement for a while....
|
Lol, yeah, that would be "bad".
|
I have deffinatly seen worse camera work in rc vids, and like everything practice makes perfect.
Your car is so slow....but in the good way.:027: |
lol. Well, the point of the last vid was to show how smooth the Neu can be with the Quark. Going fast is relatively easy to do. It's going slow that tends to get the motor to cog, especially when using high kv motors.
|
That looks real smooth brian. I like that. I use my quark 80b and 1512 2.5d for some slow going some time. How do you like the 2d version?
|
It actually works VERY well. The 2d was supposed to be a 2.5d, but the box was marked wrong and I got the 2d instead. I didn't realize it until I ran it a few times and wondered why it was so darn fast. :)
I love the Quark for its smoothness and ability to run just about any motor equally well. Yeah, it has a couple of limitations, but am definitely willing to live with that for better written motor driver firmware. Even when doing top speed runs up and down the street and heavy throttle starts (tires are getting worn), I still get about 45 minutes of runtime and only drained the batts to ~6Ah (8Ah cells). The motor is warm at about 100*F and the ESC and batteries are cooler. I would've thought they would be hot with such a low turn motor. So, it's a "little" faster than I was planning. And to add to that, I'm trying out a 16T steel pinion (to test durability when using a solid mount with consistent mesh). I haven't run it since last weekend as I lost a wheel nut and need to replace it first. |
bump, any testing with steel on steel gears yet?
how is the neu doing? you run 4s right? 2600Kv X 16.8V full charge = 43680rpm. still not extremly high. |
I ran it a couple more times in the street and around the yard, and the pinion seems to be holding up just fine so far.
Yes, I run 4s with the 2.5d. Speeds a really too fast for the small track I run at but it still has plenty of torque. BTW: that 16.8v figure doesn't last very long. If I let the packs sit for an hour or so after a charge, the drifts back down a bit even with no load. So, I would assume that the voltage drops to ~3.7 within a few minutes of running so that rpm isn't being hit very much. |
Gotta bump up the thread
I want a buggy or truggy lol...... I want the crt.5, But its just to small for what I want to do, even with a EXT chassis.... Anything new with it Brian? |
Nope, nothing new. Ran it around the house a bit and it still is working just fine. Haven't been to the track in a long while now though.

All that money and time into it, I would be driving those cars you have every day! |
LOL. Mostly I like building them more than driving them TBH. I'd probably sell them, but you can never get what you put into them, plus a little extra for the time/effort.

Me, either. Lately I'm trying to be more courageous and I'm trying to resist the shiny look of my SuperMaxx, but I have to run it if I want to enjoy it to the fullest.
|
Wow that's sexy.
