Yeah, but not as hot as a low turn motor. One of the advantages of having a high turn motor is that you can use the extra torque for more speed through high gearing. My 1920/8 does not heat up as fast as my 1930/5, although I'm using a gear ratio higher than the one I use for the 1930/5. So I guess that I can make it in the same league as my 1930/5 if I can use an insane gear ratio and extra cells. Lower turns are not always the best way to be Fast. Thats my own thinking and you can correct me if I'm wrong. The 1930/5 needs a highend esc to make it go insane and that is why I spent so much money to bring the 18.149. I hope it will perform as expected.

Using a slower motor and higher voltage is always the best way to go. That doesn't necessarily mean that it is the most practical way. When you add more voltage instead of amps, the motor will automatically be more efficient (as long as the gearing is appropriate). And because of this, the motor can put out more power without heating up as much. So, if you have a slow small motor on high voltage, it can actually produce just as much power as a faster, larger motor (when both motors aren't running hot). This does not say anything about torque, however, because the larger a rotor, the more torque it can output (the kt value is higher).

When I had the 1930 set at 5 turn, I wasn't very happy with the performance on my emax... Why don't you run it at 9 turns... and 18 cells.. that's a much better setup, IMHO...

it's only an extra 6 cells... :) but a lot more power I think..
one of the 1930 @ 9 turns, and 18 cells.. is more punch than my buddys Savage with an RB TM28...

I used 22 pinion, and 64 spur...

Surely it will not aqwut, because you're running it in a heavy machine unlike my lightweight B4 buggy( very light weight, actually).

When I had the 1930 on my Rusty, it was Extremely fast.. Rolling wheelies at any time.... 18 cells.. on it too.. but the CVD's couldn't handle it when I just punched it...

That's what I'm fearing. Probably I should take it to a lthe shop and ask them to make me a dogbone of thicker diameter.

get them to make you an 8mm shaft.. with a ? mm hole in the center.. then braize the cup part of the cvds onto the dogbone...

The 2280 -5 turn, can the windings be changed to 9 turns .. or is it stuck at 5 turn....? anybody have any idea?

that's impossible, it's a highamp version. But why on earth do you want a large motor like that with such an absurd high kv range???!!! get a much, much lower kv range you simple need to gear it different.

I am sure that with the appropriate batteries the 2280/5 will draw 200 amps+ on 24 cells allready..

You need to reconsider that kv range, and change your gearing, perhaps getting the motor directly to the inputshaft or get a centerdiff, you can use a much lower gearing with that torque..Those large motors can't be compared to the micro 1940's you had. the torque is huge.

You could consider that high kv rating if you are planning on running 20-22 cells..

think different with those large motors.. it no longer is a hunt for high rpm's. It's all about the torque!

It no coincidence that the rpm limit is 42000 rpm on the larger BK controllers.

so I guess the answer is no.... I was planning on connecting it directry to the Tranny Shaft for the Maxx....

using a boat coupler.... 5mm to .130" or .150" or something like that...

2280-5's gonna draw about 90A's at most... with 12S lipos....

It'll be fun to see what this sucker can do... BK's site says that the hi-amp motors are fixed..... but the're wrong abou t the 1930-5 turn.. I was still able to change the winding..

I hope they're wrong about the 2280-5 turn too...
1480 kv-rating is good enough.... I have a 42 spur and 20T Pinion... so far.. from SDP-SI..

you think 1480 KV rating is too high?.. I don't think the motor will ever be running at 4000 Watts unless I"m trying to push a house or something like that.. :)
hahahahaa....2000 Watts is enough to make it fly....

2000 watts can be achieved with a 7XL allready...

the 2240/12 of Promod took 3500 watts allready.. (On a 9s only...) go figure..
(that motor has got a 1233kv range and about 70% of the rotor size of the 2250)

AND it was with 4.25 to 1 gearing ratio from the 'center gearbox' (51 spur and a 12t pinion)
