i think it looks sweet also! those big azz tires make it look mean!

suicideneil 10.23.2008 02:41 PM

I did notice the 'worn denim' effect too- it was purely unintentional though. I dunno, the more I look at it, the more I dont really like it, the shell that is. I think a pickup body just looks much more suited, what woth my liking for huge tyres and what-not. May pickup a 3905 shell and custom paint that, or something similar. Only issue is that in the UK these shells cost about $40-45 or more (clear unpainted), so I wont be doing too many too often at any rate, unless I suddenly get good at it...

BL_maxx 10.26.2008 04:40 AM

nice paint job neil! lloks really good. use brushes?

suicideneil 10.26.2008 09:11 AM

Yep, used some tamiya acrylic paint jars (white, blue and darkblue) and painted that part buy hand, then used some tamiya spray paints to do the black and tint the windows (smoke). I used some cheap generic chrome to do the chrome parts, but it didnt come out as shiney as I would have liked- should've got some Paktra mirror chrome; live and learn, or not as the case often is....

:gasp: WWooooWWWW Looks "Bitchen" Neil... :great:

Rnemhrd 10.29.2008 05:07 PM

Hot Rod Steam Roller. I would run it unless you hate it, or try to sell it for what you have in it and get something else. It is different and looks good.

suicideneil 10.29.2008 05:24 PM

It is a steam roller yeah, but a fast one. I would never sell it though for the simple reason that I would never even get 1/4 of the $$$$ back, even from parting it out. This ones a keeper, and I love running it- especially since I just installed the RC4WD aluminium 2nd gear output gear; no more weak points in the tranny....

I think he meant the body....

suicideneil 10.30.2008 01:25 PM

Ah, right- Dime bar moment, sorry.

I cant trash the body for the simple reason my awesome drag-bar works too well; I havent had the truck upside down since I installed it. I might sell the shell though, we'll see how I feel on sunday (the best day to sell stuff on fleebay)....

Just because I called a few people hopeless, and implied a few others were ignorant morons , and asked God why he is punishing me (with so many noobs posting stupid questions).... Definately not going back this time.

Procharged5.0 11.19.2008 06:57 PM

You're better off here anyway! LOL!

suicideneil 11.19.2008 07:03 PM

The noobs are safer if Im kept here at any rate...

I think what tipped me over the edge was one guy saying he read the Erevo FAQ, but there wasnt much info about the erevo or making it BL in there.... :/

Arct1k 11.19.2008 11:16 PM

Missed this until now - Sweet job! Those tires are sick!

Didnt turn out anything like the little image I had in my brain, but Im happy enough with it. I kinda made the mistake of thinking these acrylic paints would handle much like normal acrylics, but saddly not (they dry too quickly, and dont seem to have the same covering power). I also kinda screwed up the blending abit- should have bought a jar of black too in order t make the dark blue paint fade away, rather than being a clear divide between the black and dark blue as it tails off.

Overall, an enjoyable experience, but I understand why guys use airbrushes and stencils, and why they charge so much for the more intricate designs.

'read the E-revo FAQ but not much info on brushless' :gasp::surprised:

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

did he actually read it?

and yes Neil. the noobs are safer without your ideas. but you were the one who taught me how to build my v-twin and i love it so i thank you Sir.:mdr::mdr:

Glad I could be of assistance, however, I wont be able to help 'over there' ever, ever again (despite my best efforts with proxy servers and hidden IP adresses)...

What's_nitro? 11.25.2008 06:00 PM

Have you "contacted the administrator" yet?

BL_RV0 11.25.2008 08:37 PM

Is it even possible to contact the admin? You're IP banned...

suicideneil 11.26.2008 07:49 PM

I cant be assed. If they want the forum policed by nazis who delete random posts for no good reason, or ban people just because they may have implied the local inhabitants were total retards who cant read and need spoon feeding info in order to do anything and everything, then I dont wanna play that game anymore. The mods over there are just mods, they dont offer much if any real technical advice, they are just there to keep the place free from Brits with a sense of humour and a dislike of plebs. good luck to them is all I can say.

In other news, when are the larger Medusas going to be for sale- I noticed the 80mm versions had vanished form the RCM store - I needs an 80mm 2000kv item....

BL_RV0 11.26.2008 07:54 PM

If you don't mind me asking, what is a pleb?

suicideneil 11.26.2008 08:06 PM

Pleb is like numpty = idiot/moron/halfwit etc etc. Its one of those beautiful English expressions that you never see on foreign forums unless someone like me joins... :mdr:

BL_RV0 11.27.2008 12:02 PM

pleb
Noun Brit informal, often offensive a common vulgar person

Collins Essential English Dictionary 2nd Edition 2006 © HarperCollins Publishers 2004, 2006

suicideneil 11.27.2008 09:29 PM

Collins dictionary has an interesting definition there- informal is definately correct, but I tend to think of a pleb as just a bit of a doofuss, rather than a common vulgar person; I am very common and vulgar myself, but definately not a pleb. Pleb to me is just another word for silly or stupid, or dim-witted etc. I wonder if 'numpty' is in the dictionary too...

thephilonator 11.28.2008 05:38 AM

Hmmmmmmm

pleb to me looks like a typo for prob, some how

wonder who coined it? and why?

suicideneil 11.28.2008 11:44 AM

One can never have too many insults to throw at people... :mdr:

mkrusedc 11.28.2008 06:27 PM

It comes from the latin plebius meaning common or lower class people.

suicideneil 11.28.2008 07:07 PM

Well I'll be buggered, guess I cant really use that insult any more- I'll stick to numpty instead...

BL_RV0 11.28.2008 09:28 PM

God, all these english expressions that i had no idea existed.

Update:

Well, after cooking the hackerclone on boxing day, I broke down and ordered another 'stod' from hobbycity to tide me over- sunday looks like the earliest chance I'll get to take the old girl for a spin, given the weather is finally starting to improve in sunny old blighty.

I have also just ordered an 80mm 2000kv medusa, yay! Finally got to use that gift certificate from Rabosi that I've been sitting on for 6 months or more; cheers dude, much appreciated

On the downside, my PC just took a dump, and one of the recovery discs is corupted so I cant fix it with the aid of a £££ repair shop. So, just ordered me a nice new yet modest PC base unit with some nice upgraded specs compared to the old one:

360gb vs 40gb hdd
2gb ram vs 256mb (upgraded to 1gb a while ago)
2.6ghz amd processor vs 2.6ghz intel celeron
dvd burner drive vs busted cdr drive & external cdr
6 channel sound card vs stereo out jack?
a few other things too.

That cost me £280 including shipping, but I elected to have XP installed; no vista for me ta very much.

I also bought a furry hotwater bottle, electric panel heater, ped egg (google it, or ask the wife), and I also need some new shoes & trainers; what recession?

Mental note- must play lottery on saturday....

Do you ever take your own advise? Another hand warmer/ toaster/fire starter? You will love the Medusa. :love:I got a 36-70-2300 and it is a bear. It made me buy it new diffs though.

Neccessity is the mother of invention- wait until you see my cooling solution for the temporary motor..

Good choices Mark, it is nice to have something warm and cuddly in my bed on these cold winter/spring nights, and my feet are in serious need of some TLC; normally I would use the dremel and sanding drum attachment, but Im all out of drums...

Rnemhrd 02.21.2009 09:11 AM

Boat cooling coils, some sort or radiator, and a fan? You could use the hot water for tea when you are done.:great:

suicideneil 02.22.2009 05:01 PM

 close, but I didnt bother fitting it in the end- no way it would have stayed on the truck with my driving. As it is.... I cooked the hobbyshitty motor, but only after 2 hours of fun; 258*F this time. Annoying thing is I was just bringing the truck in to check temps- I didnt let it get over ~165*F during the first 2 runs with a123s. Ran great, ton of power and only a few little glitches on the radio (FM is nice, think its the ideal cheap upgrade to AM- will add a ferrite ring to the rx lead though just as a test). A123s didnt excede ~95*F, nor did the lipos though I killed the motor before they had a chance to really warm up. Ambient temp was ~50-60. I made a kick-ass video though, compared to my usual efforts. Will process it when my new pc arrives.

Peace... :intello:

suicideneil 02.27.2009 08:16 PM

Bad news:

Garhhh. My new PC died after one day- think its the CPU as it makes a funny crackling/scratching noise, even with the case and heat sink fans disabled. Anyways, whilst thats being sorted out (return to base warrenty thank God) I fixed up my old PC thankfully so I can still acess the internet/p0rn and not go mad.

Good news:

My Medusa 36-80-2000kv motor turned up today- super fast shipping by Mike and it even made it through customs without being hit-up for import taxes, despite being labelled as $73 value (price after voucher was applied). Looks like a very nice motor, very strong magnet and very notchy, so should put out a butt load of torque Im hoping- just what my truck needs. Interesting to see that the front face is very thick- medusa suggest 3-5mm screws for mounting, which will make it rock solid (slightly thicker than the hobbycity front face it appears). The shaft also has a flat spot, and it also has the short shaft sticking out the rear- will look into that fan add-on that medusa are planning, if I likes the look of it that is (fans are awesome!).

Will post up some pics tomorrow afternoon, and hopefully start work editing up that video of the last run.

Hardstyle 02.28.2009 08:09 AM

P0rn and rc-monster forum is what we all need

That will be a nice motor no doupt.. I have thought about putting one in my genesis conversion. But a bit lower kv.
Lucky you, that you didn't have to mess with the customs. I always pray that my orders won't end up at them :mdr:

Tell us how it runs then!

My only gripe/concern is that the leads are stiffer than Mike Hock after a marathon 'movie' session. They have solder running their whole length pretty much, so I wont be bending them back and forth- how they are in the pictures is how they will stay. I have monday and wednesday off work, so if the weather is good again, I'll get to see what this monster of a motor can do :mdr:

Rnemhrd 03.03.2009 08:53 PM

WOO HOO!!! About time the steam roller got the kick in the pants it needed. The 36-70-2300 in my FLM maxx pushes it around like a toy on 4s. 5s is coming. We shall see how the 3.3 driveshafts like that power with those fat ass tires you have. Hey be carefull not ot hit your pal Mike hock when you are sitting on the ground trying to video and drive. The ladies will be upset with you.

suicideneil 03.04.2009 04:06 PM

What ladies would that be; Im a 26 y/o who plays with toy trucks, not too many hot birds drawn to me saddly...

Annoyingly, the weather has turned horrid again (rain/wind/hail/cold), so the Medusa test run will have to wait a while, meh.
