Any updates on sending in the motor to be swapped out for a 5mm rotor? It's been about 6 weeks since it was posted

Break out the tar and feathers!!! No worries, I might just try a 6mm pinion then.

Any KV rating so far for the coming 2025 motor? around 700 could be perfect for 12S apps?

The 2225 is 900KV. Hopefully they drop the KV before releasing them, that's too high!

Ill help you dig.How was that motor other than slip surface?

Unsullied_Spy 01.20.2010 01:43 AM

I didn't get a chance to run it much, but it was brutal! My Muggy weighed a ton (with tires and batteries about 16 pounds) and geared for ~60 MPH on 6s it would accelerate to top speed as fast as traction would allow for. Never got enough traction for wheelies but I'm getting either another Muggy or an LST2 to replace it as well as possibly building a big savage and I plan to run the 1717 again once the new rotors come out. It would be nice to see them a little cheaper, too. $230 street price is good for what you get but IMO if they could get them out for $180 they would really be the hot ticket.

Hey Sully,

Q; I'm going to start building a Savge 5T (hope to weigh under 20lbs) sometime next month and was wondering what you think about the 1717 on 6s to power it. Your thoughts even though your driving time was shortened by a theiving douche bag ?

Thanks

I'm shooting for 20-25lbs on my project. I've heard it'll run pretty cool geared for about 30mph but anything over that will get toasty. I'm curious to see what he says also. I'm not looking for more than 30mph for my truck though.

I got my motor mounted up the other day to an RCM motor mount for a Hyper 7

http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/x...t/IMG_0830.jpg

I ordered this 6mm 10t mod 1 pinion the other day and it arrived 2-3 days later.

http://www.innov8tivedesigns.com/pro...155c79644bda46

I wanted a 9T which would have put me around 31mph on 6S nominal voltage. The 10t will put me at around 35mph so I'll have to keep an eye on temps. I'm running small tires and only 2WD so the load shouldn't be crazy. (I'm hoping)

lincpimp 01.20.2010 12:14 PM

Century helicopter products used to sell a 9t 5mm bore pinion. Not hardened, so you could drill it out. Just an idea, and I am not having much luck finding it as tower does not carry it anymore, just the 12 and 14t pinions.

Bondonutz 01.20.2010 12:15 PM

Rummy,
Yeah, I think 30mph or so should be plenty for for a giant truck but a little more wouldn't hurt ? I'd be really happy w/40mph.

FYI, your work bench looks more like a body shop ?

lincpimp 01.20.2010 12:21 PM

Those tiny jack stands are great! I want a set!

Actually on their site they showed a 6mm pinion but like you said I searched EVERYWHERE and couldn't find anything. I think I did at one time find something over seas but didn't want to pay $30 total with shipping. The one I got is hardened steel. It's SUPER long though. Either have to cut it down or flip the diff.

40mph isn't really a "little" more  That's like %35 more haha

Body shop huh? I'm guessing because it's pretty clean?

I own a body shop, and it is anything but clean... dusty, not dirty, but still not clean!

Wasn't a clean reference, even though your bench is very much so. It was regarding the frame, and body shell and jack stands. Looks like your "clipping" a truck. Linc know what I'm saying I'm sure.

wow you were that heavy? with the roll cage i am only at 13lbs with the medusa 80mm. just got the losi hardened chassis and it is much stiffer than stock, need to order a motor mount and a battery tray from mike as i just sold them with the Jammin CRT, cant wait to try the 1520 when i have the money. as the medusa gets a little heated after hard running

Yeah, it weighed a ton. Doesn't help when you have massive tires with foams that are soaked  Also, my battery setups were very heavy (6s 5000 mAH was the lightest setup I ran and it weighed over a KG).

yea those foams can really suck it up, but dry u should be lighter than that, ir an 6s 5000mah as well. i think u need another muggy dude, you know thats where its at

I'm thinking of building a big Savage for myself and the 1717 is at the top of the list of motors I'd consider running in it. It moved my heavy Muggy around without trouble and it was overgeared (couldn't fit my smaller pinion on it). IMO the 1717 should handle it just fine.

bruce750i 01.25.2010 06:22 PM

Here is a short on-board video of my 1717 on 6s(5000) in my front heavy slipperential Savage X-17 easly riding a wheelie.

Very cool -- monster noise!

Urgeoner 02.01.2010 05:00 PM

anyoneelse have stuff to share? I'm still waiting for a 5mm rotor so i can't do anything until I get that done.

NickRummy 02.01.2010 05:15 PM

Nothing new here. I got my 6mm mod 1 10t pinion in though and it looks good. It's REALLY long though. Might have to do some cutting.

What's the skinny on these rotors being availible in 5mm ??

Duster_360 02.01.2010 07:21 PM

Gee...I am impatient
Feels a lot longer but then again a lot happened within the last 3 weeks so thats probably why, or the fact that it wa the 16th of December not January

bryan 02.04.2010 11:16 PM

ETA? Gotta have it for my muggy!

Unsullied_Spy 02.06.2010 09:17 AM

Muggy Mk. II is waiting...rather impatiently.

Why not opt for the 1520? I have a 1520 in my truggy and it is overkill

"muggy"

bdebde 02.07.2010 01:37 AM

A 1515 ran my Muggy just fine, although I now have a 1520 in it. I have not ran it yet, waiting for better weather and have been focused on racing for the winter.

riverat1540 02.07.2010 11:22 AM

i plan on running the 1520 aswell, will be plenty of motor for the muggy

Unsullied_Spy 02.08.2010 07:11 AM

1515 works "fine," 1520 does it better, 1717 does it best  What's the point in dropping that much money on a motor if you can't flip it on command at 60 MPH?

I would like to see how the 1717 does in my Muggy  I bet it's awesome. But still needs that 5mm shaft...
