MM and 6 poles...

Anyone had any luck with em? I just ran mine but it freaks out at startup and sometimes at a roll when you hit full throttle fast. 600XL motor on 4s in buggy. Heats up very fast when it does it, once it does it you cant roll into it to get it to move...have to push it. Once you are moving, its ultra smooth w/excellent power.

Im gunna try adding punch control, and lowering the timing....but I dont expect much.

Update the firmware on your ESC and I'm sure everything will turn around for you.

This sounds like how the MM used to act before the firmware update.

Beforehand, it did NOT like multi-pole motors at all. Afterwards, it's like a different ESC.

Update the firmware.

Update the firmware.

LOL Good luck.

I thought it was updated but it wasnt. I just tested it, updated firmware made all the difference. I also set startup power to low, timing to lowest, punch control to 50%. Its very smooth now.

I think most people will run higher timing on multi-pole motors. I know people have less cogging and better performance on the Medusa with higher timing. Glad it's working out for you, but you might give that a shot as well.

yep, after the update it is able to run slotted motors much better.

Bomb-Proof 05.12.2008 09:43 AM

Yea, its still running hotter than it should be, so I am trying to keep the timing low. I guess that will help. Motor is cool, ESC is hot (170). I could drop a tooth on the pinion, but I think it will kill the top speed...it seems geared low now. Id estimate 35mph on 4s, so its nothing ridiculous.

Maybe a tad undervolted? My experience with the align xl motor was that it was ok on 5s, but was much better on 6s. I had mine in a variety of vehicles, even ran an l can in a buggy on 6s. Seemed like a good motor, but for the price the medusa 60mm long motors are better.

Could be the low voltage factor, not sure. Its running the buggy effortlessly, speed is perfect. I know it would wake up on 6s.

linc, do you think the 600XL is good for pushing a revo/maxx around 40 mph on 6s?

I want one of the medusa motors, they just never seem to be in stock. I have contacted them directly to see what they can do though.

Bomb-Proof 05.12.2008 11:26 AM

I think it would have the power no doubt, heat on the ESC is the only question.

I think the Monster Max will be a perfect choice the the Align 600 motors. I ran mine on 6S and it was a monster. I later went nuts and tried it with 10S A123 and :surprised:. It handled 30+ volts very well. The 600L with 6S is just awesome and I love the jet sound it makes .

What speed to you think is reasonable to gear it for on 6s? Just general bashing speed, I am not going for speed runs.

I had the following in my BPP truck:

22T Pinion
65T Spur
4.3 Truggy Diff

With 6S it would easily do over 40mph. After I went with the Buggy 3.3 diff, it would easily do over 50mph. After that I decided to go a bit crazy and try 10S A123.

I would say that the medusa is a better motor. I hace the 60mm 1500kv medusa and it out performs the align, despite lower kv. All other vaiables were the same.

Not saying the align is a bad motor, but the medusa does have more punch, and spins up faster, sort of a poor man's neu motor! The medusa appears to be consructed the same way the as a neu. Must use cheaper components than the neu to keep the price down. If they offered a 65-70 mm long can model it would be perfect for the heavier vehicles.

TexasSP 05.12.2008 01:09 PM

I went ahead and ordered one of the aligns and the medusa. I need more than one motor anyway and I can easily sell the align on ebay if I decide I don't want it.
