Broken UltraMaxxed gear?
 

Well I got my Maxx running again after breaking one of my titanium control arms. So I was driving it around today and all of a sudden it comes to a rolling stop. Gave it some trigger and all I could hear was the motors spinning. So I pulled my body off and I saw that the spur gear was about a half inch out away from the pinions. So I took the tranny apart and this is what I found.

So how do I fix this? Does UltraMaxxed warranty something like this? I can't remember if this was even part of the Ultramaxxed gear kit or is it the stock pin that I broke?

I didn't know that UltraMaxxed made the top input shaft. I thought it just came with the idlers, and the bottom gears. Its most likely just stock.

I've seen people fix them. Its worth a try.

It are not ultramax gears, that input shaft is stock. It happens quite often, those pins are not known for their strength

Common thing, John. Simply find a fairly beefy press pin and pound it back in place(the gear). I reinforce the new input shafts in my trucks to prevent this inevitable thing from happening. I force a piece of a body clip iside along with the stock press pin. I have also drilled the shaft and gear out to place a slightly larger, beefier press pin in place(be careful doing this, as you only want to increase the hole size a very little bit or you will weaken the shaft).

I took a solid wire I had lying around. It just would fit through the hole. Pounded the ends over and never had a problem.

had me panicked for a sec, with the slipper hanging off the gearbox like that :eek: ..........and then I remembered this thread :Love:

Hopefuly you got it fixed cabking. It actualy wasn't that hard to do. Let us know.

What pins did you guys use to make it work again?

I've found some servo control wire that fits....... with a little persuading.
The one that's not sheared, I have reinforced as per Mike's method....that needed some persuading too.
The single speed I have waiting on the bench for the REVO ( you finished those drive shafts yet?) will get the same treatment.:)

A 2mm hex key will fit too, it needed some frantic pounding, and a bit of heat on the gears but it went in. :D

cut 30mm off the hex key ( any more and it bends ;) ) and taper one end.
next, beat the life out of the pin...it will go in slowly
I found heating the gears made it go in easer (well It is -4 here:W: )

cut off the excess, and the jobs done ...........................it won't be snapping that any time soon

This is what I used. Not sure where it came from. Had to be either from my Maxx or possibly the bag of stuff they give you when you buy a servo? I just tapped it in then dremmeled off the rest.

That looks like abody postscrew. You used that for the pin on the input shaft

i dont think that will break anytime soon.

Yeah, that should be much better than the garbage stock pin, Time will tell.
