Hexcrews or Rcscrewz?
|
I've bought both and like the Hexcrews better. Seem higher quality and are black, not silver.
|
rcscrewz are crap... I prefer the stuff from mcmaster carr, or whatever comes on traxxas vehicles.
|
too soft.
RC screws are too soft. I really like the armour plated "HexHead Screws". I don't know about being any liter, but they sure seem tougher to me. The heads do not strip out as easily as some others. I have some titanium screws as well, but they just cost too dammed much. Anything is better than phillips head screws for sure.
|
or you can use the pretty reliable but somewhat expensive Tony's Screws...i haven't stripped one yet and I've owned Hexcrews/rcscrewz...and IMHO Tony's are the best...
|
I buy all my grade 12.9 screws and grade 14.9 setscrews from boltdepot.com. You can buy the screws individually or box of 100's.
|
RCSCREWZ = Total waste of money. Hexcrews all the way.

Thanks

You can't beat Hexcrews Armour-plated screws IMO. Alloy steel (can't remember what grade, but it's good stuff) and nickel-plated to prevent corrosion. I've never stripped, bent or sheared a single one, and I've used probably hundreds. RC Screws are just stainless steel, and way too soft for serious use. Might be good for a shelf queen, but that's about it.
George, do you not find grade 14.9 to be brittle? I've not used them in RC before so just shout me down if I'm wrong, but I'd have thought they'd shear more easily in hard impacts? |
Dagger, so far, I haven't had any problems with the grade 14.9 screws. Never strip or break any of them. I used them on my pinions and hinge pins. Bolt depot is cheap too.
Jerry, ask your contacts in Korea where to buy those enerland lipo cells. You might be able to buy them cheap wince the won is very weak against the dollar. |
I'll check

The AP Hexcrews make the Tony's Screw Kit almost seem affordable.
I've have both and prefer the Hexcrews. I have barely dipped into the Tony's kit. I just keep restocking my hexcrews kit with the individual screws that I use. Sidenote: Tony's a great guy to deal with no matter what your business is with him. |
Always been a Tony's fan, but that boltdepot.com looks interesting. I may look into them next time I need some supplies. Tony offers a good product and is a good guy to deal with.
|
http://mutualscrew.com/ is one too, but boltdepot is cheaper. I have bought from them many times, I have a few thousand screws and bolts for my rigs here. PERFECT for crawler builds, just have an assortment on hand.
Black oxide screws are nice and strong. Stainless tends to bend and shear much easier. |
I will agree that rcscrews do suck. The heads strip easily. I either use M3/4 Traxxas black screws because the LHS carries them, Trx has a pretty good selection, and they are durable.
However, I've used RTL Fasteners to stock up on common screws, or to get odd sizes. Pretty good selection and they also have washers and locknuts. |
