Friends Birthday Present!!!

ok guys. my bestfriend's birthday is coming up and he has a brushed e-revo. i want to get him a really nice present but not something thats goin to empty my wallet.
im thinking of getting him this combo with the 9xl
<table border="1" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0" cols="6" width="850"><tbody><tr><td><center>http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/4/...n80A-KD-XL.jpg</center> </td> <td> <center>EZRun 80 Amp ESC/ Kershaw Designs Revolver XL/L Motor</center> </td> <td> <center>For those that want the big power of brushless without the expense. 850+ watts output on 4S LiPo.</center> </td> <td> <center>4s LiPo/12 NiMH Max

Now includes motor heatsink/fan, pre-programmed ESC and your choice of 5 motor winds!

For Motor Specs
For ESC Specs
</center> </td> <td> <center>$119.99 </center></td> <td><center> <center>In Stock</center> <form target="paypal" action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post"> <input name="add" value="1" type="hidden"> <input name="cmd" value="_cart" type="hidden"> <input name="business" value="Dan@kershawdesigns.com" type="hidden"> <input name="item_name" value="" type="hidden"> <input name="item_number" value="" type="hidden"> <input name="amount" value="119.99" type="hidden"> <input name="page_style" value="Primary" type="hidden"> <input name="no_shipping" value="2" type="hidden"> <input name="return" value="Pinions.htm" type="hidden"> <input name="cancel_return" value="http://KershawDesigns.com" type="hidden"> <input name="currency_code" value="USD" type="hidden"> <input name="lc" value="US" type="hidden"> <input name="on0" value="EZRun 80 Amp ESC/ Kershaw Designs Revolver XL Motor" type="hidden"><select name="os0"><option value="7XL">7XL</option><option value="8XL">8XL</option><option value="9XL">9XL</option><option value="9L">9L</option><option value="10L">10L</option></select> </form></center></td></tr></tbody></table>

OR i can get him the dual 700HO kit

OR i can get him two Turnigy 2s 5000mah 20c lipos with a charger and power supply and LVC
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/1224/t5000220.jpg

each of these options costs around $120. im leaning more towards getting him the lipos. it would give him longer run time with the stock titans

and if i do go the lipo route i could give him my small power supply and i could buy a bigger one for myself

feel free to give me your opinion :)

I wish you were my friend.

If he doesnt have any lipos I believe those would be a good start. If he has a charger to charge them. If not I would go with the Kershaw 700HO brushed motors. I hear there pretty nice.

I am actually doing something similar....

I traded for a ofna buggy/corr truck conversion. I will be giving it to my best friend who doesn't have a hobby. It will be complete RTR when I am done. Presently, it is all apart...I stripped the AL and repainted them, I am going to re dye all the plastic, and change all the fluids for him. He will have my old 9xl w/RCM heatsink, a mmm esc and a FM rx w/a mx3 radio. I will also throw in my 2 2s batts. so he can make a 4s set up. The only 2 things he will need is a charger and balancer.

We have been friends since we were v/young and 32+ yrs. later, we are still close.

He is one of the that few if I was in another part of the world and was in trouble he would be on the next plane to come help me. This project is the least I could do for him to say thanks for bring there for me all these yrs.

Id vote the lipos too if he has a charger for them, but he will need an LVC, they are pretty cheap these days.

Brushless system best shock value of cool man IMO but if hes running nimh boo

The 700s are pretty cool and would make the most sense if hes nimh and doesnt have a lipo charger

btw the last gift I was given was a bag of 4 avocados. You are my new BFFs lol

lol yeah from Santa Barbara and my wife made some sick guacamole out of them, so I guess I can't complain. Rather have some lipos or a buggy or a brushless motor though lol

mikey09120 08.27.2009 09:58 PM

if i do get him the lipos i am going to buy him a charger as well. a 50W should do fine with a 60W PS. and its $20 for each lipo :yipi:

thank you guys for your comments keep them coming:yes:

pass the guacamole!

id go with the lipos, so that way, when he does want to go brushless, he could get a refurbed MMM combo for $225 and already have everything else he needs

mikey09120 08.28.2009 05:29 PM

anybody else? opinions are much apreciated :yipi:

get the lipos. lipos make everything better- even brushed.

I thought a 50W would be fine too, but honestly it was really underpowered once I needed to charge two 2s 5000mah lipos at the same time. With a 50W you can only charge 4s 5000mah at about 3A and even then it can get too hot. I upgraded to a 250W charger right away. If you are going to get him the lipos I'd go with a better charger. This is the one I bought, handles the load much better:

I had the 700 HO kit in my E-Savage. I really like it a lot.
