9920 & 9L setup

can anyone tell me if this setup will handle 16 cells if I do the UBEC or use a receiver pack? Just received mine and dont wanna burn it up. And which wire do i disconnect to make my 9920 so it will not use BEC. Is it the black wire that goes into the reciever?

Thanx n advance

on 16 cells the 9l wouldnt last to long. to disable the bec just pull off the black jumper on the esc. its a little further back than the red.

will the 9920 handle an 8xl or another motor 16 cells

Gustav 02.19.2006 02:56 AM

yup sure will, have been known to handle hotter motors than that. They've proven to be robust controllers for the most part. What truck we talkin 'bout?

you already have the 9L?

...and welcome to the forums dklst!

coolhandcountry 02.19.2006 10:23 AM

It would probably handle the 8xl better than the 9L.

Yup, i already have the 9920 &9L. Bought it when it went on sale last month. I'm puttin it in an emaxx with the Fastlane machine chassis. Does the 9L hold up well wit 14 cells? Im really looking to make this things insanely fast. I work at a hobbbyshop and it realy helps sell stuff when they run good. Thats why i was gonna do 16 cells. What is your opinions on what motor to get next that will handle 16 cells and be able to run on the 9920? 7XL or 8XL. Thanx again for all the help. Im a nitro guy but i love the Emaxx and beating the nitro guys that come into the shop thinkin there stuff is the fastest.

maxxdude1234 02.19.2006 01:30 PM

As you said, for reliability chose the 8XL. The 7XL will run a bit warm on 16cells, it'll probably be OK on 16cells, but for security I'd do with the 8XL.

squeeforever 02.19.2006 01:30 PM

well if your looking to make it insanely fast the 6xl on 14 cells would be nice. im pretty sure 16 would be ok to but that would be the max. the 7xl is probably the best choice if you will ever want to go up in cell count. i just ran my 10xl on 12 cells and it wasnt disappointing. about 35mph. not bad for only 12 cells although i intend to run 16 or 6s lipo. i have the new ib 4200s but i got a had one so i have to get another. anywho, i think the xl motor would definately be the one to go with although it just depends on how many cells is your max and how many you would like to run. if shear speed is your goal and runtime doesnt do diddly for the 6xl on about 14 or 16 would be a good choice.

EDIT:the 7xl on 16 cells with the proper gearing wouldnt run to hot. on 18 maybe.... the 6xl WILL run a tad on the hot side on 16 cells although if you gear right it shouldnt be much of a concern.

dklst 02.19.2006 02:16 PM

so i guess i'll be ordering the 7xl or 8xl. 16 cells is my max. I have the IB 4200's also. Probably the 8xl as long as it will hold the 16 cells. its basically for drag racing the nitro's. But i do want a lil run time out of it. Have to prove to them that electric is fast and has decent runtime without goin to lipo's.
Thanx you guys for all the help. Any other advice you can give is greatly appreciated. The drivetrain is already hopped up so thats not an issue for me. Just making it fast, and keeping it from burning up the elctronics.

squeeforever 02.19.2006 05:40 PM

well with more than 12 cells a external bec or reciever pack is required so if you dont have you you need one.

dklst 02.19.2006 05:50 PM

yup. I plan on using 1 of my 5 receiver packs i have laying around. I was just looking at my 9920 tho and there is no black wire besides the 1 for the battery connection. There is a brown, red, and orange wire on the receiver plug. Which 1 has to be disconnected from the receiver plug?

maxxdude1234 02.19.2006 05:57 PM

You need to pull out the black jumper from under the capacitors on the controller. This will turn off the ESC BEC.

dklst 02.19.2006 06:11 PM

so cut off the shrink wrap and i should see it???

maxxdude1234 02.19.2006 06:18 PM

I think its tucked away underneath the capacitors. You should be able to feel a little bump beneath the heatshrink under the capacitors. You'll probably need some needlenose pliers to get it off.

k. bout to go look now. I'll let you know how it turns out
