kv rating

is 2779 a good kv for 12-16 cells?
and can some one tell me how to id the power diff. i know the lower the kv the more cells u can run but is this rules an always?

BrianG 11.12.2006 08:48 PM

For most motors, you want to keep the total rpms at or below between 30,000-35,000 rpm for best efficiency. So, you just divide 35000 (max rpm) by the kv to get the desired voltage. Then you divide that by 1.2 for NiMH cells or 3.7 for Lithium cells.

For 16 cells, that would be over 53k - a bit on the high side. I'd stick to right about 12 cells if it were me.

12-16 cells is a rather large difference. though the 8XL would be a good overall choice. (kv-wise, depending on the vehicle?)

Gundam-Guy 11.13.2006 06:20 AM

its for a buggy im doing i think iam going with the 12 cells

Serum 11.13.2006 01:38 PM

For 12 cells it's okay. But 14/16 is pushing it..

What motor is it?

Gundam-Guy 11.13.2006 05:24 PM

it the Nemesis Blue 6xl i may try the Nemesis BLUE XLT- 4 but i cant find any info on the kv rating

Serum 11.13.2006 05:27 PM

stay away from that FD fraud.. It's most likely a 6XL..

why not get a proper KV type?

Gundam-Guy 11.13.2006 05:39 PM

is he?:mad:1 i know the Nemesis BLUE is the same as the Feigao/Wanderer i just wanted it in blue:027: also on a completely diff note do u guyz think 3mm carbonfiber chassis is to thin?

Gundam-Guy 11.13.2006 08:20 PM

y do the Nemesis and the Wanderer 6xl have diff kv rating? they are the same right?

BrianG 11.13.2006 08:45 PM

They should be the same. Maybe one is rated under load and the other rated no load?

Gundam-Guy 11.16.2006 12:26 AM

i emailed fdm to find out the kv of the xlt4 for my buggy and he said he couldnt tell me it all he said is that the rpm range is 45,000-64,000 RPM thats all so i dont know if i will try it or not i know u guyz dont like his stuff but hes stuff gets some good speed

MetalMan 11.16.2006 01:47 AM

... but he doesn't list the temperatures of the components after a full run with the vehicles going at those speeds. If he can't give you a specific (or approximate) kv for the motor, then he is withholding information, which is just about one of the worst things to do to a customer (IMO).

Serum 11.16.2006 02:47 AM

Shoot for yourself, but those motors are hot.... the fact that he doesn't want to share his 'secret' receipt tells me enough.

it's just a hot XL motor, no wonder it's fast...

Gundam-Guy 11.16.2006 11:19 AM

i c what u mean

Maxxman 05.16.2007 02:13 PM

I wish i did stay away from him.
The worst thing was is tha i had already found RC-monster but not its forum and didn't think to see what people thought of his service and liked his conversions so chose to buy from him. BIG MISTAKE.

I bought a XLT1 and a BK 9920 speed control from him

he didn't tell me the Kv of the motor as mentioned before on th eforum and he sent me a BK marine 9920 speed control instead which is useless for cars and is now just gathering dust.

This wasn't necessarily his fault but i had to pay customs about £45.00 ($90) first which just made it even worse.
