uhhh... whats after run oil?
hey ive been using air filter oil for my after run oil for about a month now... i hope this is the right stuff cause well if not... idk what it will do... lol... lmk if im using the right thing guys... and if not steer me in the right direction on towerhobbies! im making an order tomorow!

WD-40 or after run oil is what you should use...Just choose which brand. It doesn't make a difference...

i wouldnt think filter oil would be good for the motor. Not sure what it chemicals it contains but i would think it would gum it up. If its still running than it should be ok. Maybe take the back plate off and see what it looks like. Give it a quick clean while your at it. Clean the carb as well to make sure you are not clogging anything. I have always used Hobico after run oil and it works good for me. But any brand will work.

After run oil is designed to keep the engine internals from rusting. Without it, the nitro content in the fuel attracts water and causes stuff to rust. Not good.
Air filter oil is not the same at all. This oil is tacky to help traps dirt/dust from entering the engine. Plus, it doesn;t do what after oil is supposed to do. WD-40 works well since it displaces water too. [TRIVIA] BTW: What does WD-40 stand for? Water Discplacement formula 40. [/TRIVIA] Of course, the simplest solution to prevent this is to run brushless, but you knew that! :wink: |

When I had the nitro curse, I always used Marvel Mystery oil. Worked great.

i second WD-40, works like a treat. take off you air filter and glow plug after you have finished running for the day and spray a one second burst in both the carb and cylinder.
turn the engine over for around 5 seconds (i usually pull the starter cord 10 times), then repeat once more. when you have finished, turn the model upside down and spin the engine over to get any excess WD-40 out (you only need a film on all the internals). also tilt the model so that excess runs out the exhaust pipe. last thing you want is a pool of wd-40 in the engine. i found this technique makes the engine easier to start next time, since you have less WD-40 to flood the plug. in my experience, after run oil makes starting next time a right PITA. oh yeah, i am assuming that you have run the engine dry before doing the above. |

ARO is ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) relabelled, put in a smaller container, and sold for 3x the price. Brilliant idea, actually. I always just sprayed WD-40 down in my engines after running them and never had a problem with the bearings rusting or anything.

Also note that if you run it daily ARO is not really necessary. If you plan to let it sit for a while it is good to empty the tank and run the motor dry, then put ARO or WD40 in it. That is the worst part of nitro for me, all the BS you have to do to it after you play with it. Tuning is not that bad once you have a baseline.

Anyway, using ARO is only part of the after run procedure; you also have to clean the oil/dirt mud off everything remotely close to the exhaust pipe. :whip: Ahhh, I remember my one (and only) nitro truck. Spent more time prepping, getting started, tuning, and cleaning up after running than actually running. If I wanted to do that much cleaning, I would be a maid (which I'm not)... and no comments about linc in a french maid outfit! :oh: |
another us efor WD-40 is to spray fishing lures and fishing line it will remove the human smell which fish find offensive...
