Holy Cow! New Trakpower Packs!

New products include:

2S 3200mAh 20C Pack
2S 4800mAh 20C Saddle Pack :surprised:
2S 4900mAh 25C Pack (upgrade from the original 20C)
2S 5400mAh 25C Pack
3S 5400mAh 20C Pack for VXL Vehicles :surprised:

All of these are hard cases like the original 4900mAh pack. Check em out:

Oh, and I just read....2C charging with use of the V-Balancer!

t-maxxracer32 02.07.2008 11:48 AM

does that mean that with all balancers we can charge at 2c? or does the vbalancer do something special?

skellyo 02.07.2008 11:51 AM

For $50, I think it would be worth it to have a V-Balancer if you have any of these packs just to be able to charge at 2C.

BrianG 02.07.2008 11:52 AM

As far as I can tell, the V balancer looks A LOT like the LBA10. They just want to make sure that the cells are in balance if charging at that kind of rate.

david lamontagn 02.07.2008 11:53 AM

Any Flightpower pack can be charge up to 2.5C with a balancer. I have the Hyperion 0610i charger with integrated balancer and i can charge my FP 5000mAh, 4s to 2C without any problem.

The new saddle pack looks amazing! The only thing holding me back from getting a BJ4 WE or a B44 was that Trakpower didn't make a 2s saddle pack. Now I might just have to consider one of these buggies.

skellyo 02.07.2008 12:52 PM

I just got off the phone with someone at FlightpowerUSA. Apparently, these packs are debuting at the Nuremberg Toy Fair and should be available soon. FlightpowerUSA has a rather large order they are placing to get these new packs in stock to ship out to all the US distributors. I was told to call back next Monday and speak with a specific person there to find out what online retailers will likely have these ordered and in stock soon.

Also, they have some of the packs in their hands at FlightpowerUSA and bought some Traxxas VXL vehicles specifically to test them out (3S 5400mAh specifically, I'd imagine). If I find out any other information on Monday, I'll reply with what I find out.

awesome news! :intello:

BlackedOutREVO 02.07.2008 03:09 PM

AWESOME!!!!!!!

Thats so cool! A 3s hard cased TrakPower!!! Thats just way to cool!

lincpimp 02.07.2008 03:16 PM

I am so excited that I just wet myself.

Just kidding, nice to see more choice in dedicated car packs. I really like my older trakpower lipos. The offer much better performance than a similar maxamps pack.

VintageMA 02.07.2008 03:43 PM

Just keep in mind that even though they say that the packs can charge at 2S, their literature on the original 4900mAh 2S packs said that this would greatly reduce the number of useable lifecycles of the pack too.

Still better to charge at 1S if you want the pack to last a long time and can wait the extra 30 minutes.

BlackedOutREVO 02.07.2008 09:43 PM

$169.99 according to the Trakpower site. If Tower carriers them though, you should easily be able to pick them up for $150 or less with all the ad codes they always run.

BlackedOutREVO 02.07.2008 10:25 PM

Dang thats not bad

skellyo 02.21.2008 01:32 PM

Some updated information on these Trakpower packs...

Apparently the cells used in the 5400 packs are the Evo Lite 5350 cells and the packs are now rated at 16C instead of the original 25C as stated. So, both the 2S and 3S 5400mAh packs are now 16C continuous and 25C burst rated.

The good news is that they now have a 3S 4900mAh pack shown. It uses the same cells as the new 2S 4900mAh, so it's a 25C continuous and 50C burst rated pack.

Also, here is pricing for all the new packs:

2S 3200mAh Pack - $74.99
2S 4800mAh Saddle Pack - $119.99
2S 4900mAh Pack - $119.99
3S 4900mAh Pack - $169.99
2S 5400mAh Pack - $119.99
3S 5400mAh Pack - $169.99

lincpimp 02.21.2008 02:29 PM

Well, looking at the prices, the trakpower 3s 4900 pack would only be slightly higher than a maxamps 5k 3s pack, after the std tower discount. No contest, I would definately pay the 20 bucks or so for the trakpower pack.

Still can't understand the price increase for the maxamps lipos. I guess that they have to pay for the advertising somehow!

Countryhick 02.21.2008 05:16 PM

Anyone have a link to a pdf. or any other information on what cells trakpower are using in their saddle packs? I know they are meant to be enerland cells but can't find a match on the enerland website.

skellyo 02.21.2008 10:25 PM

No clue on what exact cells they're using in the saddle packs. My guess is there are 2 small cells in parallel in each piece, then the two pieces get put in series for 2S. If that's the case though, I'd expect to see some 2400mAh cells, which I don't recall Enerland producing.

supralover72 02.21.2008 10:56 PM

How can they get away with 120 bucks for a 5400 2s when neu sells 5000mah hard cases for 95 bucks, and they're 25c continuous?

The same way Orion sells their overpriced 15C 4800mAh packs for $140+...name recognition.

supralover72 02.21.2008 11:05 PM

Wow, glad I got my neu packs then :). Thanks.

MTBikerTim 02.21.2008 11:06 PM

Those 5350's sound a lot like the Hyperion 5350s which my friends use (they would be the same cells). Although we haven't given them much abuse they seem barely get warm where as the poor MM and motor they are attached to always get really hot.

MT I've been wanting to tell you for a long time, you have the CUTEST puppy I've EVER SEEN in your avatar! I want to steal him!

Thanks. He's a Japanese chin cross Maltese. No stealing though :whip:. I was going to get a picture of him destroying a muppet to go with the rest of the muppet themed avatars but I never got around to it.

Just spoke to FlightpowerUSA and the new 4900 3S packs should be in at their facility any day now. So, they should be at shops/retailers within about the next 2 weeks. For any of you looking to buy any of the new Trakpower packs, their website gets updated daily with the last 10 shops that placed orders with them.
