my brushless build>>>yusa rally onroad<<<
i wanted to give an update on my build i'm doing on a $98 shipped ebay 1/8 buggy onroad roller i bought. i'm sure most people here know about the car. anyways, i planed on uploading some pics as soon as some of my stuff starts arriving and today was the day, but i can't find the camera anywhere. my wife had it somewhere and i can't find it:diablo:
so for now, i'll explain what ive done and what i've got. i'll try to get a pic up tonight if i can get my wife off her phone long enough to find the cam. so far i've taken apart the diffs front and rear and i put 7k rear and 10k front. thats the only fluids i had. i put 50wt in the shocks and changed their position to give better ground clearence just incase i scurry across the lawn here and there. i made the motor mount from a peice of 2"x2" angle aluminum. this is temp until i get my mill(then its on:mdr:). also im using the angle aluminum to fab up some battery mounts where the mud guards would normaly be on a buggy. i will line them with some rubber tool box matt for the batteries to ride on. for now, i have 2 4s1p's of a123 that'll be upgraded to 2 6s1p's in the near future. so i'll be using 26.4v for now. i'm keeping the 2speed and should see 70+ on the 8cells and over 90 on the 12 i'm hoping. for motor, i couldn't locate the first choise turn of feigao xl, so i upgraded from that which saved me $$. i got a kb45 10xl, which was cheaper, and don't need a clamp. i also got the 100a hv tower pro esc to run it. a cc bec to run my 2.4 fasst reciever and servo's. i haven't gotten the servo's ordered yet. for looks, i have an ofna mclairen. :yipi: sick looking body and looks like its going to fit the car nice. thats it for now, i'll post more with pics if i think of anything i left out. |
some pics i know i'm missing the front drive shaft in one of the pics. i have to pull the center diff out again and install it and my break disc.

Looks like its gonna be a sweet build! Are you sure that hobbywing 100a ESC will run it using the ESC brakes? I doubt it will brake properly.
|
I made mistake then bought this ESC it not suit to CAR at all this stupid sturtup delays even with lowest setting it stupid slow, no brakes.
|
i've heard of alot of people having luck with it working great. if it don't, i'll just look into something else like a castle hv85.
the esc will not be using breaks. thats why i have to put my break disc back in for the break servo to do the work. |
For speed runs and drag race its OK but for race when you need good response on trigger it not suitable. OK try you will see :)
|
if your right, that will be okay. thats exactly what i do, bash and dragrace.
|
got some progress done today. i was hoping to get it finished this weekend, but i had to work saturday, so i lost a complete day.
first up, body is painted. it didn't turn out like i wanted it to. i didn't know what to expect with the color on the front, and i think it throws it off a little. i'm always hard on my painting though. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...cture73112.jpg http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...cture73113.jpg http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...cture73114.jpg |
now for the insides. i moved my servos around a little, flipped the break to the front, mounted the motor, got the battery trays on, and made some small peices to tie the center to the front. i'm thinking about making a mount on those peices to place my reciever and bec. everything is rough at this point, and i also plan on putting some holes on the battery trays to lighten them up some.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...cture73120.jpg http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...cture73116.jpg http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...cture73115.jpg here is the layout im thinking for now. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...cture73118.jpg |
quick question before i tackle the electronics. i've only hooked up ubec's with esc's that have a built in bec. i know for those you disconnect the red radio wire. do i need to do it with this esc or do i leave it there to power the brains?
|
The only thing you have to do is remove the red wire to the ESC. ESC is powered directly from the battery connection.
|
so why would this esc even have that red wire if there is no built in bec. seems like an extra step in connecting it up if you have to power your radio equipment seperatly anyways.
|
That is a good paintjob man. The white rims are setting it off a bit, if that is a fault you are trying to see.
That will be a screamer down the track and lots of OOH's and AAAAH's at the next TNT. |
Pass on that one! but best be safe and remove it...
|
yeah, i will and if it works, i'll just leave it and not push my luck. somebody knows the answer though.
i agree about the wheels, i'm thinking something gray, black, or yellow would fit it better. |
well, a little more done now.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...lybuild002.jpg
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...lybuild001.jpg i just about have it finished now. i ran into a snag. i can't get the esc to respond at all. once thats going, i'll hook up the break servo, and clean up the wireing. i'll run it in that form until i go to 12s a123's, and order some foam tires. if anybody has some suggestions to get the esc to respond go ahead and chime in. i've done about all i can think of. i have a program card coming in the mail, but i don't know if that will help since i get no responce from it now. |
alright, my motor is dead. brand new, it worked when i first got it, but now it doesn't. i turned the shaft down to fit my pinions, so warrenty is out. i guess it'll be used for parts. anyway, i need a new motor and i want something fast. here is something local to me. tell me if its any good.

yeah, i found your post w/vid of it. you claim its stronger than a feigao xl can motor even though its so much shorter? thats pretty impressive, especially at this price point. if its impressive enough, i'll replace my kb45xl in my emaxx with the 22/45 or 22/50. another plus is that i get to buy them at the lhs. i really hate the fact that most my stuff has to come from online and i can't put enough into these local shops.

i got the 22/45/2. he gave me a deal on it. i also told him i may get him to order the 22/50 if i like this one. i'll post some picks when i get it mounted.
|
Coolbeans man. You are going all out on this one. Hamdrl will not be same anymore.
|
this pic is of the living beast after her first run. everything seems to be working, except i didn't hear it shift gears. the roads are wet right now so i couldn't get it going very fast, and i didn't run it long as you can see in the pic it was getting a little wet in the car. i thinks its going to be pretty quick once everythings all set and 2nd gear pops in.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...cture73128.jpg btw, my kb motor does work. it was bad plugs on it. i started putting it together with that motor, but my mount was too far back and the pinion was barely on the shaft. i didn't trust it so i made a new mount this morning for this motor. it should be a higher quality motor anyways. |

got some run time today. brought it out to the rc drag races. tires suck, so some foams are in order, and i'm still not getting 2nd gear. they told me i hit 51mph on my first pass. after that i was hitting 46-45mph each pass which is right where its geared in 1st gear on this voltage(26v). the size and flashy paint turned lots of heads. i'm really liking the car and motor. at the track, esc got to 105 and motor was 115 i think. after i got back home, i beat on it a little. full speed pass after pass back in forth infront of the house and lots of drifting manuvers. after about 10mins of constant bashing i checked temps. esc was 114 on the heatsink 119 on the caps and motor was 160. i really need to get that 2nd gear working. it should get the motor happy. i think im over winding it being stuck in 1st.
tom255, i see what you're saying about the esc. i have no issues with it though. it does take off a little on the soft side, but putting out this much power i would have to feather the throtle anyways. in a heavy truck that im trying to get wheelies or flips from a stand still, i could see the issues, but for this car its great. |
Here's a vid of todays TNT Dragrace. Tash Yusa is in there.
Thanks Sleeb for the vid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gjWzlmtJLc |

i think my problem is not knowing which screw to adjust with. i think i could be adjusting the wrong one, because i'm not getting a responce from it. i'll just pull it apart and see whats going on in there.
thanks for posting the vid. the first pass i made on that vid does look faster than the second, maybe i did get that 51mph. |
