6s A123+8L hacker = Pizza cutters

Here's a pic taken by Sleebus, of last Sunday TNT. After I blew up to 2 sets of foam tires, I decided to put on my tape belted speed hawgs on heavy beadlocks and see what it would do.

Here's the vid 'CLICK

I think you pulled the tape off

No, couldn't have!

snellemin 02.20.2008 02:17 AM

Check out the video link that I added.

BP-Revo 02.20.2008 02:26 AM

Needs more power.

LOL

zeropointbug 02.20.2008 02:59 AM

Oh yes, observe the angle of the spinning (ballooning) tire, you will notice it does not have the proper... how do you say, "feng schway". I am going to have to concur with the statement that i needs more power.

More Power!

ICUBoy 02.20.2008 03:52 AM

Man any more power and you'll be picking up bits of tyre from all over! That is a cool video- getting the power to the ground looks like the challenge. The dragster that takes off to the left of camera looks like it is an arrow from a bow!!! Thanks for the inspiration!

i'm pretty sure he's already done that before.

snellemin 02.20.2008 09:47 AM

Hey Tash, have you figured out the second gear issue yet?

lutach 02.20.2008 12:18 PM

I used some nice foam tires on my BPP to do some speed runs. They held up ok. I'm not sure who makes them, but they are kind of like your usual dish wheel/foam combo. I bought them from a LHS who had them on sale.

snellemin 02.20.2008 12:30 PM

My problem is on takeoff mostly. There is where I blow tires. If I take off slower, I'm ok and keep a straight line(like in a speedrun), but then I loose the dragrace that way. Speedruns can take over 200-300ft, whereas in dragracing you only have 132ft to make your topend.

lutach 02.20.2008 01:17 PM

Have you tried spike tires? I know they grip well on sphalt .

snellemin 02.20.2008 01:21 PM

hahahhaha. Actually I have done that before and so have others when they started. Worthless to say the least. Foams are still the best, if you can keep them glued on.

pipeous 02.20.2008 01:23 PM

catchy tune in that vid. who is that?

looked like a fun day

snellemin 02.20.2008 01:29 PM

Sleebus did the vid. Clueless about the tunes in there.

I get tons of traction when I use some beat up spikes. Even my heavy BPP goes to its lid if I'm not too careful. Here you can see the tires that I have: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...5&postcount=58. They were able to handle 4760W when I tried 10S just to see if the 1521 could handle the voltage. The truck was hooked up great on black top and launched like it had rockets hooked to it. I drew a nice little crowd at the parking lot, but it ended at around 9:50 when the diff couldn't handle anymore.

snellemin 02.20.2008 01:54 PM

Wow man, talk about some Foams. 4760 Watts you say, blacktop!! I used honey on my foams on the blacktop. Thin and stickey enough for better traction....cheap too. I just have to refrain from licking my fingers after I rub the honey on the foams.

What foams/tires are those? What Hex size and where to get them? Tash will be interested in those too.

Got them on sale from a LHS. They were made for the Savage, T-Maxx and I think it is 14mm hex. I have no clue who makes them as they were only in the bag. When I get a chance to go to the hobby shop, I'll ask to see if they have more.

jhautz 02.20.2008 03:36 PM

Dude.... If you can figure out who makes those wide foams Id be interested as well. I have been using the IMEX maxx size foams and they are only half as wide as that. The IMEX work ok but those wide ones would be awesome.

snellemin 02.20.2008 03:53 PM

OOh, if you could find out man, that would be great. I am in dying need of traction.

Takedown 02.20.2008 05:06 PM

Hey snellemin, You get the idea of naming the title "pizza cutters" from cheech didnt ya?

I thought the video was pretty insane. Now lets get a Neu 1515 in their.

snellemin 02.20.2008 05:21 PM

Actually the Pizza cutter name came from Sleebus at the TNT and the folks at beatyourtruck.

I was thinking about the Neu, but 2 pole motors spool up a bit quicker. When I'll built a 1/8 scale then I'll do the Neu for sure.

lutach 02.20.2008 05:50 PM

I think Jaco has mounted foams for your truck.

snellemin 02.20.2008 05:53 PM

Jaco makes the ones for the associated. Nothing with a hex.

i think so. i think the springs are too stiff. the split ring hasnt even made a mark inside the hub yet so i know i have gotten enough force to make 2nd gear grab. i ran my numbers today and got to thinking. since i'm running 8s1p, i'm probably putting a decent load on the batteries. we all know a123's like to drop voltage in 1s packs. so basically i'm spinning the motor around 30k right now if i'm dropping to 2.7v/cell. i went through everything and all seems right, except for the no shifting part. i think i'm going to just live with it stuck in first until i get the 12s1p running. i know i'll be putting some centrifical force on the clutch assembly then. if i don't get a shift at that point, i'll look at other options.

tashpop 02.20.2008 08:59 PM

lutach, the lhs told me proline used to make some foams for monster trucks, but i couldn't find any info anywhere. i wonder if thats what you have there. also the track that we drag at is very slippery. i get so much more traction infront of my house than i do out there. they prep the track, but its in a parking lot, and i think the smoothed out oil saturated asphalt is showing.

snellemin 02.20.2008 09:30 PM

The only info I found on those giant foamies, was on a thread in 2001. Proline Jaco offered premounted foams for the maxx.

When I got those foams, I asked if he could get more and he said yes. I will call them tomorrow to find out for sure. The last time I used them was also on some slippery surface. That didn't bother them at all and they offered a ton of grip.

That would be "My Way" by the Los Loney Boys, off of their 2006 album "Sacred". I love their stuff, they've got great talent!

ha, lucky guess:lol:

MTBikerTim 02.20.2008 11:06 PM

How did the car on the right take off so fast? It was like there was a big elastic or something tied to it.

snellemin 02.20.2008 11:11 PM

He had the traction whereas I didn't.

He was running the 6L 380c feigao that I loaned him, with a 28T pinion.

lutach 02.22.2008 02:01 PM

I was reading the Nov. 2006 issue of Car Action and notice that Kershaw Design's E-Maxx used the same foams that I have. Maybe they might have some available. Here is the number for my LHS: Xtreme RC Addicts (Formerly Champion Hobbies in Lyndhurst, NJ) (201)729-9500 Chris www.xtremercaddicts.com. I hope he still has information on the foams. He had a problem last year and lost all the info in his data base.

tashpop 02.23.2008 01:36 PM

look what i just got off of ebay. costed $74 for the set. 17mm truggy wheels.
http://i6.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/b5/62/a07b_1.JPG

i got them from the seller teeracing, but its the only set he had listed.

snellemin 02.23.2008 03:17 PM

ARRGGG!! So evil man. My Rustler is still down....zero tires. However I did order some adapters, so I will experiment with them. Got me the airtronics 2.4ghz radio today, so no more walking around to see who has my channel in SA.

Do they have more?

tashpop 02.23.2008 05:05 PM

you'd have to contact him. look up teeracing. he only had 5 ads this morning, but the others where only onroad car foams.

snellemin, i've now got foams for both the onroad and my monster. should be alot of fun for me next time out. i think i'm going to slam my emaxx to the ground and see how i like it.

snellemin 02.23.2008 05:09 PM

Don't slam it too low. You want the driveshafts to be parallel to the ground.

This what's in the works

Is this the adapter you got for your Traxxas: http://2008.neweramodels.com/index.c...xas&model=1067

snellemin 02.24.2008 06:57 PM

I currently don't use any adapters..just 12mm hex wheels. But I was thinking about getting those though.
