It's easy, but you might fry it like you did the Sidewinder. If it's like the truck controller, it should be easier then a MGM. Later I'll get the intructions for my Mtroniks and walk you through it, but if some one else post it here, I'll just come here to see how the controller is running. It's a nice controller ad if you are thinking about smoking this one, send it to me and I'll take good care of it.

Ok. No problem. Use it with care. Report back on how it's running.

That's good.

Be careful with the Mtroniks + high voltage without a UBEC.... that's how mine smoked. The internal BEC can and will burn up on 4s, even when the controller seems to be running cool.

drkros3 02.27.2008 12:48 AM

the esc is not even getting hot. i was really suprised when i was done running and i touched it and it was not even hot.

lutach 02.27.2008 12:57 AM

Since we are on the mtroniks topic. How do I remove the resin to see the inside of the controller?

MetalMan 02.27.2008 01:05 AM

You can let it burn itself, that'll get rid of the resin (as I've experienced twice).

The Mtroniks are some really weird ESCs. I never was successful using one with a UBEC, and for a while one of them was fine running the internal BEC on 5s LiFePO4 (16.5v nominal) (it smoked, and Mtroniks promptly replaced it for free).

Have you gotten the programming figured out already? It's been a while since I've programmed mine (since it smoke 6+months ago), but I'm sure I can figure it out again.

drkros3 02.27.2008 01:15 AM

yah it was a really weird programing. i just hope i did it right. i was trying to set the lvc on it and i think i did it right. but im still driving it for a few min. and then checking the voltage on the battery to see if its working lol. but have not gotten the battery down that far yet.

i well fine out tomorrow.

drkros3 03.06.2008 01:12 AM

hahah ok since i posted this thread i have fried 3 of these esc. and i did everything right. every time i used a castle bec and had it programed to the right settings.

these esc's suck! lol

i put in a mamba max and it works great. i dont kow what i was thinking going with these esc's

wow. Something must be wrong. Get a datalogger like the Eagle Tree or DPR and find out what is going on.

drkros3 03.06.2008 01:41 AM

datalogger???????

explain please

If you are pulling too much AMPs you will burn your ESC. The Hobby shop you work for doesn't have Eagle Tree products? Here are more info on them: http://www.eagletreesystems.com/MicroPower/micro.htm and http://www.bnbproducts.com/.

drkros3 03.06.2008 01:54 AM

well we have something like that. its made by wattage. and what it goes in between the esc and battery and it tells u how many amps its drawing. its mainly used for planes so i never thought to use it on my car. maybe i well do it tomorrow and just see how many amps its drawing with the mamba max on there.

I think that one only measures up to 100A, but it should work.

drkros3 03.06.2008 02:16 AM

yah i should not be putting out over 100A cause the esc i was using maxed out at 80 and the mm is 100A

but i shall try it tomorrow and let you know what i find out.

drkros3 03.06.2008 02:19 AM

i just now noticed something weird with all the mtroniks esc that have burnt up. its the same burn pattern. and for like 2 of them i used no bec and for the last on i used a bec and it burnt up.

on all of them the big caps burn up.

chilledoutuk 03.06.2008 10:28 AM

what people forget is that although you might not be using the bec for the external devices chances are that its still being used for the internal logic on the brushless controller.

Personally apart from the programming I liked the mtroniks controllers a lot they handed my hacker master car b its ass when i got the software updated.

However when it comes to power handling and ease of programming the mamba max is da top dog also the new hobbywing controller looks like it the ticket as well being powerful and sensorless or sensored.
