Tekin Redline brushless motor
 

Hello,
I received my Tekin motor.

Overall aspect and packaging is great, it made the motor looks like high end product :P, packaging say
Designed in USA made in China.
Come with everything, including inox (!) mount screw, spring connector (the good one, not the banana) 11 ga wire and a bunch of stickers :), and the motor

by the feeling it's slotless design maybe with a iron ring (can still feel a very very ligh resistance in the rotor at some position).

I used it yesterday, feel strong and smooth power band with my mamba max, run great even with bad battery. Very silent as well.
Summary, for 75 $ we have here a good alternative to Castle creation motor, with a larger choice of KV and lot of stuff inside the box.

PS: I still want Mamba max stickers :|

Good to know. Thanks for posting this. I was considering one of these motors but hadn't seen anyone try them yet. DOes the package give any info on Max RPM or max voltagethatcan be used with each of the motors? SUrely the R1Pro/Redline 9000kv can be rated at 3s.

Just a small add,

I have tried to change timing in my MM, from 5° (low setting) to to a custom value 8°, I can't say if does change a lot run time or T° because I just tested it in the street, but you can really feel the difference in term of punch, I hope to be able to do more test next week if weather is better

Anyone had any dramas with these?

I doubt you won't have much feedback on it here, so far I just found soldering post a little too small to solder wire on it.
There is not much info about this motor mostly because it's not roar legal, and tekin stuff are mostly aim toward Racers, Many racers still relie on the "seen on the track" instead of adds and hype of RC forum to buy there next RC stuff. At least It seem to work for top level driver here in France

I did a small movie to show how Tekin motor work with a Mamba max, the car is messy because I did run on the my local race track before.

I think better acceleration is achievable easily with Lipo and more agressive ESC setup, but it's already more than enought to race with the big dogs (1/8).
As you can see there is hardly any cogging,
and you can ear the start-up routine of MM taking over when motor slow down too much when hitting the curb,
I keep the small throttle value at this moment.

I did dismount my T4 gearbox for some cleaning (to much grinding in that differential :P).
I did that for my Tekin motor as well.

I must admit, I'm impressed by the overall qualtiy of the internal build. Except of two copper strand that were misplaced and a slight bending on rotor side, most other sensorless motor on the market are way cheaper in term of construction.

How is your motor doing? I'm thinking of sensorless 2.5t, but not sure if it is better than hacker or gm...

Still working flawless, I run around 70° celsius with 23/87 gearing.
Hacker E40 are made in china stuff.
I can't say about hacker or GM, but on thing is sure. There are not based on the same design. If you plan to run with a sensorless ESC (VXL/ Mamba max/ Losi entry level ESC / Tekin R1) , A tekin motor is ano brainer. They worth every bang for buck.

I know that TC/On road is very hard on sensorless setup because off large gearing they do use. But on off-road the drive feeling of this motor is good.

it will be for tc :) My e40 lost magnets after 3 months, f...ck :( GM makes very, very good stuff, especially their new line, but tekin has always been well known for quality. And their motors don't look like anything I knew.
It will work on GM Genius 95 esc, strong beast.

I have read that new GM range use delta wind motor, Tekin are delta wound motor as well.
Bearing on Tekin motor are really large, and the rotor seem to be made to pull a monster truck :oh: (compared to a common SP/ Novak rotor)
Please let use know how the combo work.

The fact that nobody is willing to give any certification or recommendation about compatibility. Ask tekin or GM, but the answer will probably a mix maketing BS + a hidden "we don't know we've never try".
So if your not ready to take some risk then just buy a GM motor to go with your Genius 95 :yes:

the answer is simple Tekin motor in term of design and feeling react alot like castle motor, so it's safe for me that you can go up to 3S on most low and middle kv motor. A high KV motor will suck a lot of current specialy if you put a large gearing on this one with lot of load. It might be problem in term of acceleration if your battery can't follow (matched Nimh or 20C + lipo is a must have here)

Weee, I like risk :) Only difference is that in europe GM is cheaper and is known for very high efficiency (low working temp) and good output, about tekin's redline I cannot find anything apart this thread!

Yeah this suck, it's true that I'm the only personn who did care speaking about it( a tekin guy speak a little about it too o_o). Strange it's like speaking or using a sensorless motor is a defect when it come to competion motor in 1/10 ...
About efficiency it's decent but it still run hot. probably not as efficient as a good 4 pole motor

I got me a Tekin modified 4800kv motor to see if it's any good. It's a soso motor in my opinion. There is too much play in the rotor, just like the mamba motors. Heck, my feigao motors have less play then that. Power/Torque wise...pffff not impressive. I had to go to 4s A123 to "wake" the motor up. It spools up slow for my taste, but maybe it's designed like that.

Play in the rotor you mean, like side play or like a movement to remove the rotor from the can ?. I have 0 side play on mine and same lateral play as feigao motor.

4800 kv motor is most likely to be used on medium track for off road, i wouldn't go under 5800 kv for onroad. Car with small tyre are more RPM based. That's why TC guy prefer sensored, because most sensored motor can goes up to 12000 kv and small rotor allow fast spool.
In off road you will just spin the tyre and lost all grip doing this

I am comparing the 4800kv tekin motor against the 4400kv feigao, 4900kv feigao, 4200kv basic lehner and 4600kv little c40 hacker motor. The Tekin motor produces as much power as the little hacker motor. Kinda petectic.

Still more than enought to pull wheeling with 2S A123 on my T4. Sure this motor is not mean't for drag racing

Well, I got my 278 today, nice packing, nice wires with ready 4mm golds, but no data on gearing, power supply, current, efficiency. So I have to guess how to gear it and so on...

Exactly like I did. You need a good esc (sp gt , RS/R1 pro or mamba max) and good nimh pack or 20C lipo to get the most of this kind of motor.

My advise go for a low gearing like 18 to 20 teeth, don't play with timing right now.
Set it low to very low.
Then gear it differently until you find the good temp/speed combo.
Then you can play with timing to get more punch out of the system

I'm on onroad xxx-s, so pinion will be like 16 :) Timing is a problem, my GM motors require 30deg, I wouldn't like to reprogram esc's for this motor right now.... ESC can handle 95A constant, I have limited it to 60A, so it should be enough I hope :) How is your engine doing?

Still running without problem. Sealing is pretty good, I did notice much less dirt in it than with my previous Trinity motor.
Btw don't worry about the strong smell that may come out of the motor when it get hot. it's probably due the large amount of resin used to fix copper inside the can.

Lipo are definitly a must have when running brushless. The pack i use cost me around 45 $ and perform much better than my unmatched nimh pack that i bought the same price one years ago.

snellemin are you running a123 in 1p?
I suspect these tekin motors need a lot of current to get them going and in my opinion a123 cells are not quite good enough in 1p format to provide motors with full 540 size rotors with the current they need.

I did have use it on 2S2P A123, after a complete run pack come out warm. Unfortunatly I have nothing reliable to measure amp draw in a run :/

I ran in 1P mode. The 8s 4400kv feigao motor has more ummphh in 3s1p then the Tekin motor.

But the motor might be "designed" like that.

I run 278 sometimes on 2s2p, it goes strong enough, 1p can deliver up to 70Ampers, so that is not that bad, try 2p if want to go safer.

Yeah, it is quite powerful, enough to use current limiters :) It is very quiet because of closed design, because of that little bit hotter, but anyway, very good engine untill now :) Speed is ok, I run it on my onroad and it is enough for everyday use :)

a123 cells can deliver 70 amps yes but what people forget is that the voltage at this load drop significantly more so than normal lipo battery's.

You know what i would like to see would be an eagletree of one of these motors on a really powerful battery pack to see what current they really like to draw.

would a lower kv tekkin motor be good for a crt.5?

I was going to use one when I was going to do a conversion for a CRT.5. The Traxxas VXL motor is a popular motor used in the CRT.5 and it is a 3500KV. Tekin make a Redline in a 3700KV which should be perfect

any idea anyone what timing is the best??
