BL Savage motor mount ?

Hello again all :)

Right, iv done a search & read lots of threads, but am still undecided, though unusually not on the motor/esc.... i'll worry about that when its all together & i know how much it weighs...

Whats getting me is this, ideally i'd like to run stock 2 speed or maybe even 3 speed with mechanical brake, but as i see it that means i'll have to either buy the Sav' BL conversion kit & not use the gear set or make my own motor mount.... is there anywhere i can buy just the motor mount & battery holders without the single speed gear ?

Cheers,

Andy

You could make it yourself? the motormount can be made from L profile aluminum, and the batterie holders are from simple U profile aluminum with a few holes in them..

Easy as baking pie.... (i don't know how far your kitchen knowledge reaches though...)

Mofomaxx 08.26.2005 01:54 PM

Yeah i could make it myself..... sadly my personal manufacturing skills arnt great, but i have a mate with a machine shop so its not a problem, however iv dumped so much on him lately & i know he's real busy...... so since the "kit" is available i just wondered if it was available in parts ? i.e. just motor mount, or motor and batt mounts....

It would be easy i guess, is the kit motor mount decent ? is it worth me bothering trying to find ?

Mofomaxx 08.26.2005 05:25 PM

Just as quick update to this, if i do end up buying the conversion kit, is it anygood & where's the best place to get it online ? i'm in the UK...

Cheers

Andy

Serum 08.26.2005 05:38 PM

Your best of getting it from Germany, here to be precise. Mike can also get them, if you need one.

Mofomaxx 08.26.2005 05:48 PM

Well im all for supporting people on forums so if mike can get them;)

I think thats the way i'll go, so disregarding general savage hopups as iv owned a picco .26 powered sav' a while back, so i know how the truck will need sorting, apart from the kit do i need anything else specifically for the BL setup ? i believe i have to modify the kit gear to make it reliable ? esc/motor i'll choose once it's finished & i know what it weighs, as im not sure how "bling" it'll turn out yet.....

Jasper 08.27.2005 04:22 AM

Does anyone have a drawing from the motormount? Scale 1:1, so I can print it out and draw it over on the aluminium plate.

Thank you!

Jasper

Serum 08.27.2005 05:09 AM

I could draw one. you need to measure all the sizes to make it a perfect fit imo..

You want the motor to fit underneath the spur or to fit above the spur? (beneath is the way to go, lower cg gives better handling.. (less wheelies though))

Mofomaxx 08.27.2005 05:30 AM

That'd be really helpfull.... underneath the spur i think... ;)

Going off topic now, iv just read the "BL Buggy" thread & thoroughly checked out Ofna's www, but with no luck, just to clear something up, do you know which centre diffs actually come with a plastic/nylon/delrin spur available to bolt right on ? i'm still considering this option....

Cheers again

Andy

Serum 08.27.2005 05:55 AM

here you go...

Mofomaxx 08.27.2005 06:05 AM

Link's not working im afraid mate :( .... iv been researching too, seems there are 47/48t plastic spurs available for MP7.5 .... just noticed also there a GPM 46t Delrin spur for the 7.5...

Jasper 08.27.2005 07:53 AM

Serum, I really appreciate it if you want to draw it for me with all the sizes!

I want the motor to fit underneath the spur.

Thank you!

Jasper

@Mofo;

Search on Ebay for ofna center, and you'll find it!

Mofomaxx 08.28.2005 09:41 AM

Serum, sorry to be a pain in the ass !! is this compatible with the plastic spur then ? :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OFNA-9-5-cente...QQcmdZViewItem

Cheers :)

Mofomaxx 08.28.2005 09:56 AM

Sorry, just read in MGT thread 9.5 diff is no use, so this would be the one ? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-OFNA-ULTRA...QQcmdZViewItem

Ta, Andy

MetalMan 08.28.2005 10:23 AM

What's going on with Ebay links?!?! Neither of those are working... The diffs that work with the plastic spur are from the MBX, LX, and Ultra series. The ones from any hyper 7 or 9.5 buggy won't work.

Mofomaxx 08.28.2005 10:41 AM

Hpefully that 2nd link is the one then as its labelled "NEW OFNA ULTRA COMP LX CENTER DIFF" ... it has no spur included, but the spur mount has four mounting holes, it's not a spur that bolts directly to the diffcase..... from what i've read i think that makes it the right one ?

Hi,

I have just done a similar bracket to fit the motor pinion underneath the spur gear. Please refer to attached dwg.

Hi,

last pic. I have purchase the conversion kit. Take note that with the kit, the battery will interfere with the brake activation link (little 5mm shaft that goes into the side of the gearbox) if placed within the provided battery holder. I am having that issue & in the process of working out to lower the battery holders to work round this
'problem' so that I can revert to 2 speed with brakes.

Joe Ling

You are not able to change the possition of the motor?

joeling 08.29.2005 10:08 AM

Dear Serum,

I am just trying to lower the cg of the truck (as per your thoughts in an earlier post). The stock plate has the motor too high up for my liking.

Regards,
Joe Ling

Serum 08.29.2005 12:29 PM

Yeah, i understand your point of view, i too think it is way too high.. I was just asking, because it takes some precise measurement on a 'locked' motor to get the mesh right.

But i didn't see the other pics of the mount, showing it is able to move the motor.

So, my question is answered, and i too think a lower CG is better..

superfreak 09.03.2005 07:51 AM

Joeling, that plate you made looks pretty good. How come you purchased the conversion kit?

Is anyone able to make a custom mount like that? Just wondering since I'm not really wanting to spend $170 on a conversion kit. I would like to keep the stock 2 speed and probably could make battery holders myself but do not have the skills nor equipment to make a mount. :(

Im with you superfreak. I dont really feel like spending $170 to make my savage BL. I PM'ed joeling and he said the motor mount hasn't been tested yet. But he said it should work. MAybe someone here can show the diagram of their motor mounts. That will help alot..

Serum 09.03.2005 08:30 AM

Build it yourself!!!

You'll enjoy it..

All you need are;

-handdrill, with a few drills
-rasps
-patience
-maybe a handjigsaw

mothman 09.03.2005 12:36 PM

Yea i can feel that is going to be fun building them my self. But i dont really know how to accurately measure for the motor mount. Is there anyone here that have a motor mount diagram?

coolhandcountry 09.03.2005 12:48 PM

I thought it was one earlier in the thread. I may be wrong. It may not be what you looking for either.

Same here. My accuracy would be the only problem. And when your bolting a BL motor directly to the spur gear you want to have it all perfect.

coolhandcountry 09.03.2005 05:48 PM

Welcome there superfreak. It is nice of you to join the little forum.
You got a good point. Don't have much room for error.

Serum 09.03.2005 06:46 PM

The motormount is the one in this thread..

Just use small drills to make a centerhole (something like 1mm) you can use a sharp little nail to draw the crosses on aluminum..

mothman 09.03.2005 07:04 PM

Actually the motor mount that was posted in this thread hasnt been tested. Thats what joeling said when I asked him about the motor mount. But he said it should work.

Serum 09.03.2005 07:22 PM

if you want 100 percent safety, get the conversion kit.. You could do some measurements yourself.. Use a caliper and some imagination to make it work! You can see the motor fit in Joeling his savage, so it will work.. In the worst case you need to make a motorbrace, to support the motor, but on the other hand, i seriously think that thise motormount is strong enough and doesn't need any support..

The 'orignal' motormount needs an extra hole as well, or it is likely it's angle can change due to jumps etc. With the motormount of Joeling, this won't happen..

You can adjust the motors position by using the normal sleeves in the motorplate for adjusting the mesh of the clutchbell/spur.

mothman 09.03.2005 07:32 PM

Sorry for asking too much Serum..:o ..Ok ok I'll try the one that has been posted since u said it works better.
