My onroad racer is ready

I finally got around to finishing my racer. It's the old school fine design prostock. I had to make a new driveshaft for it. Used my drill press to sand down some 1/4" 6061 tubing to make it fit. The originals were too long with the new aluminum hubs.
A123, mamba and hacker powered. Clueless how fast it's going to be.

Damn sexy for a Drag rc. I always wanted to make a rc drag car do wheelies, never really go into that project though = /

DRIFT_BUGGY 03.25.2008 06:00 PM

That looks so sweet and tough, nice work

BlackedOutREVO 03.25.2008 09:21 PM

How come the painted one has a different motor then the unpainted pics? Or am I wrong?

Looks sick!

snellemin 03.25.2008 09:49 PM

I just posted another pic which has a bigger rear tire.

BOR,
The painted one has a hacker motor, whereas the unpainted had a 6L feigao.

What's_nitro? 03.25.2008 10:26 PM

Hey! I know how fast it will g---BOOOOOOOM---...go. About Mach 1.

snellemin 04.01.2008 06:18 PM

This is what happend last Sunday. Took of like a bullit and went airborn. Landed on it's behind and the spinning wheels sucked in the rear. I need the build me a wheelie bar and gear up. Might have to max out the punch control and/or decrease the timing a bit. On 4s and 3s it would get airborn. On2s it ran straight.

Oh man, that sucks. Body was so nice too. Same things happen to me, but it's just my driving skills at fault. Which is why I spend very little time on bodies...

lutach 04.02.2008 02:08 AM

Wow. Did you make a video?

What's_nitro? 04.02.2008 02:22 AM

Hey snellemin your car looks tired!

I'm surprised you ran it without a wheelie bar. Based on your account of the accident the damage could've been a lot worse; had it landed off center and cart-wheeled. I'm glad it didn't because I want to see what it's really capable of!

snellemin 04.02.2008 08:31 AM

There are no vids unfortunately. Just that pic. The body did pop back out though. Just the spoiler got ruined. I'll need to get some new tires as well. The best part was, that during my test, it had a peak of only 30A at 4s.

TexasSP 04.02.2008 10:07 AM

Man, that stinks! I hate it when my cars try to go airplane on me.

xcntrk 04.02.2008 02:27 PM

Sooo... what's the bottle of Honey for?

snellemin 04.02.2008 02:38 PM

That is my "traction compound". Just have to let it sit in the sun a bit and then roll it onto the foamies. Instant traction at launch and only needs water to clean, unlike koford.

ChriZtoffer 04.02.2008 04:12 PM

Oh thats a really nice ride man! Exactly how it should look! To bad about the body tough... I hope you'll be able to meassure the top-speed sometime.

Revracer 04.02.2008 11:40 PM

ive never thought of husing honey as a compound... would it work well for tc racing and pan as well?

snellemin 04.02.2008 11:58 PM

Bee spit is amazing stuff that works for me. But I wouldn't know if it would work for TC an pan cars as it's a thin substance. Try it out and see if it works for you.

Revracer 04.03.2008 04:43 PM

well running foams... i could always try soaking the tires and then letting them dry in the sun or do whatever your doing only to a much thicker level to make it last longer... how many launches do you get out of one treatment?

snellemin 04.03.2008 04:51 PM

I get one launch per "bee spit" treatment. After the run I clean the tires with water and reapply for the next run.

Revracer 04.03.2008 06:55 PM

hmm...this is also on a rwd car that is putting down a lot more power... how do apply it and how thick usually?

snellemin 04.03.2008 10:41 PM

I put two thin strips of bee spit down on a piece of lexan. Then I just roll the car rear tires on the strips several times untill it's coated evenly. Most of the time it's just a thin coat. Just do what works for you.

My Rustler uses a thicker coat then the 45oz camaro.

Revracer 04.03.2008 10:56 PM

hmm... i might have to try that out... just do that about 10 times... i probably dont launch as hard as you off the line or ever really, but i do turn a lot harder then you... haha

snellemin 06.29.2008 02:16 AM

I went back to 48P gearing, and will run 4S. Refoamed and trued the TM nitro wheels. Gonna need all the traction I can get. Wheeliebar should work better now, with all the ballbearings as wheels and enough flex to keep the rear tires planted at launch. Motor choice is a Lehner Basic 5300. Previous motor was a 9T hacker C40.

Should be a fun car throughout the year.

In this vid you see the old setup in action. It's in the middle of the vid and it was taken by Sunnyhoutx. That was with the 9T hacker and 3s A123.
