bigest badest motor on 5s lipo

im getting to the point were i need to start to think about somthing to power my custom monster im making, i dont have a clue how much it weighs so my guess is 12lb+ when i get it rtr. so whats the best motor to power a big heavy monster truck on a 5 cell lipo pack? i wont speeds that will top near 50 when geared right but i also wont tree stump rippen torque when geared low :D

camel_rc 08.28.2005 04:59 PM

Sounds like a Plett BigMaxx would be the best way to go.

stampy 08.28.2005 05:06 PM

ya but thats alot a $$ though. any thing cheaper maby

Serum 08.28.2005 05:11 PM

Don't get a bigmaxx with any amount of cells or what so ever...

It takes a schulze to power it up, which is a horror..

Get the 7XL instead, it's smoother, same power at a fraction of the price (and running much smoother) and you can use the 9920 to complete the setup..

The 7XL is the best motor money can buy, (biggest bang for the buck) for 14, 16 and 18 cells. the 18.5 volts you are looking at, will put it in a very efficient rpm rate.

the 5S lipoly

stampy 08.28.2005 05:19 PM

ok cool i was looking at running a mgm 160 thats why i wonted a 5s witch is the limit on that controller. with the 9920 i can run a 6s pack 22volts. will the 9920 take a 7xl running and a 6s pack? how bout the 7xl will it even take a 6s pack?

coolhandcountry 08.28.2005 05:31 PM

For the money you spend to get the motor(big maxium). You can get he motor and controller. 7xl is a good bang for the buck. You can run the mgm 160 with it to. 5s pack with a 7xl should do good.

Gustav 08.28.2005 05:32 PM

7xl with 9920 controller is probably the cheapest way to hit your target.

For 6s how about the 20xl/8 with 9920.

stampy 08.28.2005 05:46 PM

the 8xl on a 6slipo will be basicly the same motor as a 7xl on a 5s right?

Serum 08.28.2005 06:00 PM

Yeah, only a bit more efficient.. (with 230 watts more power available!)

stampy 08.28.2005 06:01 PM

sweet ok guys thats what im going to run 8xl 9920 with a 6s lipo

Serum 08.28.2005 06:05 PM

FLY! shoot a movie for us!!

stampy 08.28.2005 06:08 PM

well it isent going to be done for a wile need to save up the $$ (im a poor man in a costly hobbie) but should be done in a few months hopfully

Gustav 08.28.2005 06:18 PM

What's this truck you're working on Stampy?

squeeforever 08.28.2005 06:30 PM

i would actually recommend a lehner xl 2800 for 5s lipo. for 6s i would recommend the xl 2400. they have more torque and efficiency than a feigao and the cans dont pop open.

stampy 08.28.2005 06:35 PM

my own hand made chassie with an emaxx tranny and diffs, lst axles, bearing carriers and holders, looks sumfin like this :p ,its changed a bit sence the pics were taken but still looks pritty much the same

with out the body

Gustav 08.28.2005 06:46 PM

I like it!

Do you have the steering worked out yet?

stampy 08.28.2005 06:50 PM

yep but i dont have the servo(s) gunna run 2 :D, the cool thing is there was like no bump stear when i mocked it up with some junk servos :L:

crazyjr 08.28.2005 07:01 PM

Nice but it looks like it's going to hit close to 20 pounds.

coolhandcountry 08.28.2005 07:04 PM

It does look a little heavy. It does look sweet though. I like to see when you have it done.

Gustav 08.28.2005 07:08 PM

Well done.Steering geometry is always tricky to get right. Was the zero bumpsteer good luck or good management?:L:

One thing though,do you have any caster/front kick up?it's hard to tell in the pic.

You don't see that many people try ground up projects like this. You are to be commended.

Gustav 08.28.2005 07:32 PM

Just a suggestion, the upper arms may need to be more parallel to the lower arms. With the inner upper links so high you'll have increasing +ve camber as the suspension compresses.Maybe you could lower them to either side of the diff outdrive without too much alteration.

stampy 08.28.2005 08:05 PM

right now the way it is there is no to a very small amount of bump steer (trial and error is how i got it right :) ) the camber in dead perfect through the suspension movement, and its got a little bit of toe out at the top of its movement. the caster might be a problem, there is a little negative caster built in to the front just from the way the c-hubs and carriers go together but if I need more ill probably have to heat up and twist the front a arms but hopefully it will be just fine

i wish i had a scale so i could weigh it. but im in the the process of lightning it up

Gustav 08.28.2005 08:31 PM

The LST hubs do have a bit of outboard caster so to speak but the LST bulkheads are also kicked up quite a bit.

Good luck with the project and keep us posted. It'll be good to see this beasty up and running.

coolhandcountry 08.28.2005 08:51 PM

If you have bathroom scale weigh yourself with and without the truck. It give you a close figure. May not be perfect.

squee, who gave you this information..?

It is inaccurate.

an L allready has got more torque than the lehner xl.. so it's really no compare to the XL......

squeeforever 08.29.2005 03:18 AM

if im not mistaken it was on this forum... it didnt sound quite right but after seeing the stump pulling torque of my lehner it wasnt hard to believe

Serum 08.29.2005 12:32 PM

It simple isn't true squee, the feigao L and XL both have got more torque than the basic xl. (on the same amount of cells)

El Jarretto 08.29.2005 09:05 PM

Wow, very nice machine you have there. I would be careful about the weight, even though a 8XL on 6s has lots of torque there's quite a bit of truck to move. Don't be worried about the paint job, it beats mine.:o

coolhandcountry 08.29.2005 09:11 PM

I can say this. xl2000 with 18cells on an emaxx. The motor is no longer runnible. Had it geared to high. Fried like bacon in a pan. The 7xl pulled it better with higher gearing. What is $150 in the name of sceince though.

RC-Monster Mike 08.29.2005 10:31 PM

Bigger motor=bigger torque. really no way around it. Nice custom work, too!

stampy 08.29.2005 11:46 PM

thanks! cut all my pecies with a hack saw and a jig saw  so the fit and finish isent that great but hey its going to be bashed hard so i dont care :L:

coolhandcountry 08.30.2005 07:36 AM

Hey stampy did you ever get some kind of weight on the truck?

stampy 09.03.2005 09:17 PM

just though id update this with some new pics :D

got me some new shoe's
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...28_62_full.jpg

notice the size :P:
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...28_63_full.jpg

i know the camber and toe are way off but i dont have any shocks so i cant put it at ride hight to ajust them :M:

RC-Monster Mike 09.03.2005 09:31 PM

Beast! screaming for the 7xl. :)

coolhandcountry 09.03.2005 09:31 PM

Man I like that. I love big tires any way. I have the same rims but with the gold. I want to paint the ring blue to match truch. Let me know How them tires do. I seen them. I liked them. They look real good on that. Nice.

stampy 09.04.2005 02:42 PM

thx for the nice replys guys :D . i should have it up and running in a few mouths . once i get the shocks and some servos i going to throw in and 19turn and controller just to see how it drives and get it all dialed in

stampy 09.18.2005 09:54 PM

well got my shocks but still no servos :M: heres her stance  (looks like its sits low its not its just that the body sits real low on the truck :D )

over all the fit and finish is bad since i only had mostly hand tools and such but its a basher so i dont really care to much about what it looks like up close :p
